Southend Victoria, scenery wise, was everything you ever hear about London as far as overcast,…read morefoggy, and a little deserted.  Like a constant loop of a after the rain feeling when some people take to risk to go outside and scurry about even though the clouds still look like they are ready to downpour on you at any moment's notice.  We arrived at Southend Victoria after our flight from Paris which landed us in South End Airport.  The Southend Victoria stop on the National Rail was directly outside the airport across from baggage claim.  All we had to do was simply cross the street once we exited the airport.  The National Rail is an outdoor train and unless you knew where you were going it's a bit difficult to buy a ticket on their kiosks outside their version of a turnstile.  At the time we were there, the window with the agent had  a heavy line and the gentlemen at the turnstile seemed limited on what he could assist you with; sorta like he wasn't able to leave his post but still available to answer questions.  We had purchased our tickets online in efforts to catch the train on time but on the same note we were cutting things really close with our time table.  Sadly we ended up missing our original train, we went to the booth to ask if we could swap the tickets for a later time and the answer was the obvious, NO.  But I don't do no.  So when you purchase your ticket in advance they send you a barcode to scan when you get to the rail.  So we simply scanned the ticket anyway even though our original train had passed and what do you know, we made it in.  Score 1 for me 0 for the Window Agent.    Riding the National Rail was an experience, not too often do you take a train across the country abroad, take in the scenery, and be in awe of the neighborhood and its structures.

I got into the taxi and the driver asked where I was going to, which I confirmed Southend Central. He then said that he was called for a fare to Basildon. The Receptionist confirmed that they had logged my taxi 25 minutes before the second fare which was also waiting. The Taxi driver asked me to exit the car as the other fare was "worth more money to him" and that he didn't work for Andrews Taxis, saying "I am self employed". The person waiting for his taxi said that he knew I was waiting before him and that he would happily wait for the next one. The driver however said no I need to get out of the taxi. This is the most appalling treatment I could expect from a taxi company. Andrews Taxi's obviously do not care about the reputation of their business or the conduct of their drivers. Before placing this review online (placed at 3:59), I called Andrews Taxi to speak with a manager at 10am. They took my details and said someone would call me straight back. 6 hours later and still no call but based on the experience today, I am not surprised. Have told my daughters not to use this firm especially with unprofessional drivers such as the one I had the unfortunate business of meeting. Avoid if you possibly can.

His wife booked B&H for us. The cab arrived on time - the driver was really pleasant and friendly & drove sensibly around the bends. The fare was considerably cheaper than another cab firm I had recently used from Southminster - the owner of the firm charged me £18 from opposite the pet shop to Bradwell!!!!!! A journey of only 7 miles. I will never use that company again.
