After a total shoulder replacement, started having problems 3 months later. Ct scan showed a 14 mm bone spur but nothing else. Surgery was done to remove spur, instead repair torn rotator cuff. Failed to remove spur under rotator cuff. Didn't relive pain. Suggested reverse replacement. Time for another opinion UAB sports medicine looked at ct scan, showed spur was still there. Rotators was a mess and confirmed a reverse replacement was needed. Along with failed replacement surgery by southern orthopedics I got hit with the full cost of the surgery because no preop was done that would have caught that my referral ran out 2 days before surgery. Adminstration said they should not have touched me without approval but hear your bill. And blue cross blue shield won't pay because referral ran out. So make sure you check everything. read more

I do not appreciate the rude staff here. I guess up to ask why I was still waiting 20 minutes after in the appointment start time (I checked in 15 minutes early) and they looked at me like I was crazy. If they are running behind, they could at least have the courtesy to be courteous. If I were running that late they would cancel my appointment. I scheduled a 9:30 appt for my daughter to see a nurse practitioner. After driving for 45 minutes, we were still 20 minutes early to do paperwork and because it's courteous so as not to put the staff behind schedule. At 10:30, I approached the front desk and the young lady I spoke with was very rude. She told me (with a literal shrug) they were running behind. I asked how much longer it would be. She said, "I can't tell you that. I can only tell you there are 3 in front of you." At 11:15 I again approached the desk and spoke to 2 different ladies. I advised we had been waiting for an hour and 45 minutes. They stated that the nurse practitioner had only one room, so it was a patient in and a patient out. I stated that I understood that concept, and it would almost be enough of an excuse, except we had watched the waiting room empty an refill 2 times, and we were still sitting there on the third round. People that had come in an hour after us had been seen and left and the second set of people was the same. *Blank faces* I asked to see the office manager. They called her on the phone and I stood at the desk waiting for her for 3 minutes. She never came. Conveniently, we were called back. When we got to the back, the girl from radiology came to get my daughter. She seemed nice as she wheeled her away, but when my daughter came back she said they (the girl that was wheeling her around and the girl taking the xrays in radiology) were both extremely rude. They were excessively rough with her while doing the xrays and spoke harshly to her while doing the xrays. The nurse practitioner had no personality, and I witnessed him being excessively rough as well with her injury. The office staff was not courteous and the medical staff was not compassionate. We will not be returning, nor will we recommend SOS. As a comparison, I took my dogs to the vet later the same afternoon and they were treated like royalty we waited less than 10 minutes. I have been a pt for 3 yrs plus. It's almost 12 pm at nite and the day night weeks month of pain have been more excessive than before these " corrective" surgeries. Due to my intense fear of needles( into the areas) I nearly fall faint. Once I believe I scared my Dr so bad He referred me to Center for Pain. My last visit there( center for pain) the sedation Didn't work? That shit hurt me so damn bad I couldnt/ can't do that again. So what's the option? Weed and shots? Since this Opiod crisis you can't get nothing for pain specially doing Pot. The meloxican I was on for 3 years cause an Ulcer bleed bottoming out my blood pressure to surgery in Jan. Come March I must have a secondary surgery. Yes , bodies break down but therapy pain injectionhave been less helpful than i wouldve imagine. Tonite my left hip radiating into my knee excruciating. My right shoulder radiates around the ball of my shoulder. My rite knee throbbing like hell. Sonce i am breaking down and physically having these ' alternative ALLEVIATUNF PAIN surgeries what option do ppl like ' me' have for pain relief. There are ppl dying from trying to stop pain, from street pills etc, 'I' understand the crackdown for addictions death or ? Opiods. I would like for my corrective surgeries Past and Needed to be just what Im told they are ( pain relief tactics and/ or repais to not be more critical and painfual like Nothings been done. Watch out for the butcher. Dr. Curtis destroyed me with a faulty knee replacement. The artificial cartilage broke away, floated behind my knee. This affected the nerve and I was in a wheelchair. I had to have another one (not with SOS but with Hughston) that cost me two months off from work. I lost my job teaching and coaching. He was arrogant and cavalier regarding the broken device. Do not let Murphy do any type of surgery on you!!He replaced my shoulder in 2015.It was and still is extremely painful. From my shoulder to my fingers are almost completely numb.I have discovered that he mashed the nerves in my neck and shoulder I have gotten to the point that I feel hopeless and I am scared to let anyone else to try to fix it. He also pushed my collarbone forward so that it sits up higher than the other side. I hate this punk for what he has done to me. If you are thinking about surgery please, please don't go to MURPHY he destroyed my shoulder. read more

Went to Dr Hooper for a fractured wrist. He put me in a cast. I thought I was in good hands. Then after 2 weeks I went back to see him due to the pain I was in. He dismissed me as a pill seeker, blamed it on carpal tunnel, and recasted for a week longer than originally planned. After my cast came off, that caused pain the entire time, I had a malunion. A malunion is caused by the patient removing the cast to soon or it being set wrong. My wrist was deformed from being set wrong. He told me to go to PT and come back in a month. Glad I didn't take his advice. I instead got a 2nd opinion at AOS with a wonderful Dr. At my first visit, just by looking at my wrist the Dr told me I would have to have surgery. Maybe 2 due to the damage.I had to have surgery and a metal plate put it. 1 year later and I have had to have a 2nd surgery for a torn ligament and to have metal removed. I have spent a year in either a cast,brace, or having to have surgery thanks to Dr Perry Hooper not doing his job. The Dr that fixed me said this all could have been prevented. Thank you Dr Hooper for causing me more pain and damage than what was originally done. This has been an awful year! Trying to function day to day, raise my son, take care of my home, and even driving was taken from me for months at a time. You may need to seek a new profession because you have no empathy for your patients. Maybe next time you listen and fix the problem instead of brushing it off . I actually took the time to read some reviews on this office and decided to try them any way. Bad decision. My appointment was at 2:30 pm. I arrived at 2 so I could fill out the new patient paperwork with out rushing. I stood at the window for 10 minutes while the woman behind the window totally ignored me writing receipts and talking to the person at the window to the left of her. She never acknowledged my presence. So I asked the lady next to her for her name. I then left went to my car and called for the office manager to complain. Stayed on hold for an additional 11 minutes until giving my info to someone who said some one would give me a call. I haven't received a call as of yet. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have a radial head fracture in 2 places. the first dr I saw was an older man he immediately said I needed surgery after he looked at my xrays, but he no longer does surgery they r gettin the 2 stars because this man was correct... he had to transfer me to dr Curtis who does do surgery. he said he didn't want to do surgery To let it head on it's own and that if it doesnt heal right he would come back in a year and do a radial head replacement. Also he said the radius bone was the bone on the outside of my arm which is actually the ulna... WOW..... if u don't even know what bones are where why r u even a doctor. Well my aunt is a pharmaceutical sales rep for orthopedic hardware at UAB. Which means she goes in and teaches the drs how to put in the hardware. So I sent her my xrays and she said exactly what the first dr said that I need surgery if not I won't be able to have full range of motion and will be in a lot of pain. So I told her the full situation and she was extremely concerned so she go in touch with one of her surgeon friends she works with that accepted my insurance got me in the very next day which would have taken normally 2 weeks being a new patient. I went to my appt with this new dr at UAB today and this man is completely incredible he confirmed that I needed surgery and got me all set up in one day so I didn't have to drive an hour to come back for pre-op. He also got me in a new fiberglass half cast the one that southern orthopedic surgeons put on weighed about 10lbs and was crooked and causing severe pain. Bottom line is it's not southern orthopedic surgeons as a whole that is bad it's Dr. Curtis he is clearly incompetent and shouldn't be a doctor at all I don't know if he was just being lazy and didn't feel like doing the surgery but he shouldn't be allowed to practice medicine and definitely shouldn't be allowed to operate on anyone if he doesn't know which bone is which. Maybe other doctors in this practice may be better than him but I'm not taking any chances when it comes to my health. I currently have a 4 month old son and a 5 year old daughter and I'm a stay at home mom I need to be able to have full range of motion in my arm so I can take care of my children. I think this is a fair review considering the circumstances. Plz what ever you do don't let doctor Curtis operate on you....... update. I just found out yesterday that it's actually broken in 4 places not two and I may have some torn ligaments as well but I have surgery tomorrow at uab highlands with dr Eugene Brabston Hes amazing would def recommend him. read more

you'll have to wait in the waiting room forever, over an hour usually or 2 hours at times. my knee had been reinjured after surgery and I suffered with pain for years. everytime I went it seemed to be a "it is what it is" attitude. Finally made an appointment w orthopedic clinic in Opelika and on first visit he offered cortisone injection. I've been completely pain free now for 10 weeks! Im a nurse too and I've got to be able to walk!!! read more

My husband took son in to have wrist checked after fracture. Arrived prior to appt. time but was not seen because of a Medicaid error. Nurse gave them less than 30 minutes to get a fax from previous assigned pcp. Great care for patients?? NOT!! read more

My appointment was at 10:15, Dr. Heck saw me at 11:35. He was in the examine room maybe 5 minutes. He was rude and unconcerned. He did nothing except recommend physical therapy. Dr. Heck asked me to stand up and touch my toes and that was about it. It was a total was of my time. I still have the tingling in my back and legs and arms. I will never go back to them or recommend to anyone. Don't waste your time if you need someone to take your pain seriously and at least seem somewhat concerned. DON'T GO THERE! read more

The staff is rude, and completely unconcerned with doing anything in a timely manner. The wait times are ridiculous, and the doctor hasn't so much as looked at my ankle once in the three times that I've been there. I've been waiting for a week now for him to sign a form saying I can't run on my injured ankle, and I still don't have it. Go anywhere else. read more

I came into the clinic at 5pm to get my knee looked at. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful; since this was my first time here and i didn't know the process. There wear a few people ahead of me, so it was an hour before i was taken back to the room. The nurses who came in to ask me questions and take me to get an x-ray were friendly and nice. The PA on duty was nice and helpful in explaining what the problem was and what i needed to do to help fix it. It took about 30 minutes after i was back in a room for the x-rays and dr to evaluate. read more

Be aware of signing a waiver for additional charges not covered by insurance. They will tell you that this is standard, and you will not have to pay a thing. On the form they add medical codes that you do not know. Ask what those codes are saying. They know that Tricare does not cover crutches from the office. They will tell you there will not be a charge for the ones they give you. Then over a year later they bill you for the crutches that were supposed to not cost you a dime. I had the person that presented the paperwork say there will be no additional charges. When I actually got the crutches, they again said there will be no charge. Surprisingly, you get a bill in the mail for the crutches. They then remind you that you signed the paper with the medical codes on it. It is a shame they know they going to bill you for something they say will have no charge. read more

I woke up monday & could not bend my knee. could not drive. tuesday i went to All Med to get x-rays ( my regular Dr doesn't have x-ray facilities) i was given meds, shots & referred here they have an Urgent Care clinic 5-8 pm. when i arrived i tried to show the clerk my referral. she told me just sign in. we do that when it's your turn , wait time at least an hour. an hour &1/2 of waiting later, she tells me i can't be seen. i do not have a primary dr s referral. All Meds referral is not good enough. WHAT? i drove in a storm with a bad leg to get here. had a motel reservation on this side of town so i didn't have to drive in the storm after dark. had the All Med nurse make some calls to here. to no avail. got seen the next day after i got that referral but that's not the point. they need to take the personal phones away from the rude clerks so they pay better attention to what's going on. i heard several rude comments about the patients made. read more

If you need FLMA paperwork or disability forms filled out make sure you take it to them several weeks in advance. I'm currently out of work with no income except for my disability income. With that being said one week after dropping my forms off, they still have not got them completed. No forms = no income. They literally only have to answer a couple questions and get the doctors signature. This office definitely needs some extra help in this department. I've never been to a doctor before that hasn't had my paperwork finished within 2 days. read more

I only ended up at this office after my visit to the er. They referred me to SOS because of a muscle strain. If I had a choice I would have gone any other place my insurance covered. I only had two appointments, and had to wait at least an hour for both, and there were at least 20 other people in the waiting room each time. The first one I waited an hour and a half. If it wasn't a diagnostic appointment I would have left. The second was a follow up just to check if I had healed. Still waited for an hour just to hear that my shoulder was fine. I have nothing against the doctors, but maybe it's a better idea for the staff to not book so many appointments right on top of each other. read more

I went in on a Thursday to the after hr clinic. I was told that I would get a call back on Fri with a scheduled MRI, I never heard anything so I called them on Monday and they said they would call me back. I called them back Tuesday to find out I had a scheduled MRI in 30 minutes when no one called me. So I rushed then called today Wed to see if the results were in and they were so they transferred me to make me leave a message. I am in to much pain for the run around read more

My son was told that he needed to pay $150 to be seen, since he didn't have insurance. He paid it but received a bill for $120 a few weeks later. The office lied and deceived him by telling him that the $150 would cover his visit. Now my 19 year old college student is being told to pay more. This is a deceitful office!!! read more

Firstly, had there been an option to give a NO star review that would have been my first choice. One star is still too generous for this office. The management, or dare I say, lack thereof is astoundingly inadequate. My husband had an accident and thought he had broken his foot. Initial study stated it could not be determined with just an x-ray that his foot was actually broken, so the physician ordered a CT. The CT was denied because of lack of info and the Dr. dictation was not correct. The initial dictation stated it was his right foot when he had injured his left foot. On our follow up visit, the physician tried to go over my husband's newest x-ray compared to his last one and he NEVER had a second comparison x-ray. He was told that it was probably broken and needed to start therapy 4 days a week and come back if it was still hurting. Did I mention, he can barely walk! We opted for a second opinion, so I attempted multiple times to obtain a CD with his images for our new physician to review on Thursday. I asked Monday evening for a CD, was told by the front office that they can only be burned on Wednesday morning and the cost was $5. I called again Tuesday and left a message for medical records... no return call. I called again Wednesday morning and left another message, called again around lunch Wednesday and another message. No return call ever. Called again Wednesday afternoon (because bear in mind our apt with new doc is Thursday and he requires these images) and had to demand to speak with a manager. Office manager stated there was nothing she could do, she went and got the medical records supervisor. Medical records supervisor stated that is was now going to be $10 to get a disc because she had to stop during clinic to burn a disc for me. She chose to double the price of the CD because she failed to get things done right in the first place. Somehow I'm the villain in this story....go figure. read more
