This place is the real deal! In 2019 we purchased 1 shutter for our office which has a signature arched window. Right after we saw the dramatic difference we quickly purchased another shutter for our dining room which you can see from the office (we wanted them to match). This year when we saw their COVID special we knew what we had to do. 3 more rooms later and we are so very pleased with our decision. Eddie was a super-great installer and even during the pandemic I felt safe - we both wore masks and there was zero issues with the install. I reached out to a number of companies for quotes for shutters and blinds for my new home. I ended up scheduling appointments with three for in-home quotes before I discovered Southern Shutters who I contacted for a fourth. While the other companies were immediately responsive to my request for in-home consultations, it took days to get in contact with Southern Shutters through their website. I eventually contacted them over the phone and setup an in-home quote for the morning of July 12th, their first availability as they weren't willing to otherwise adjust to fit my schedule. The sales rep for Southern Shutters failed to show up for my appointment and never contacted me. I contacted them later in the day and was given a series of excuses for them dropping the ball. I decided to give them a second chance despite having had seamless experiences with three other companies and scheduled an appointment for two days later. The sales rep for Southern Shutters failed to show up again (!) for the second appointment and never contacted me. Only after calling the office did I get a response an hour and a half after my appointment time and after I had lost my patience with this company. Mistakes happen but Southern Shutters made clear that they weren't willing to learn from those mistakes and don't respect their potential customers' time. If you are in the market for window coverings, don't waste yours with Southern Shutters. read more

Mark and his crew did an excellent job from start to finish on our project. We had a rough idea of what we wanted to do, but asked for his opinions based on experience, and his advice was spot on. The shutters are of great quality, made locally, and function flawlessly. The one possible negative that I would expect someone to knock them for is the amount of time the process took (4-5 weeks?), but with something like custom shutters, is speed really what you're looking for? I got shutters installed in my entire house. One slat got broken and needed to be replaced. The rep came to our house on December 13, 2021 and measured for the replacement slat. He said he would get back to me in a couple of weeks. I called on 2/1/2022 and found out that they had not done anything to get a replacement shutter for me. Now they want to charge over $270 to replace the one slat. After spending over $12K with them, I didn't think they would charge me for a paint setup fee (since my paint is a standard builder's color), trip fee, set-up manufacturing fee... I am very unhappy and would NOT recommend this company since they are more interested in getting every dollar they can charge rather than making the customer happy AND they were terrible at follow-up. read more

Earlier this year I was in the market to purchase shutters for my home. I did extensive research and had four different quotes. I have to say I am so thrilled that I chose Southern Shutters. Southern Shutters was the most expensive quote but only by 5 to 10%. I spoke with the owner of this company and after that was convinced this was the right choice for a few reasons: 1) founded in 1964 and still a thriving business and family owned (vs. many other companies are franchises. And several franchises have closed locally and another franchisee started but doesn't respect former contracts. It's better to have continuity in your contact). 2) local (vs. most companies have the shutters made elsewhere, mostly overseas and have them shipped in) 3) they custom make the shutters here locally in Austin so it's a perfect fit to your window. They also specialize in custom made shutters. That's what they love to do and they said that several times. (Vs. Other companies would take standard sizes and fit it to your window.) 4) The owner gave me peace of mind when he said that he would come fix a broken shutter anytime. Although I don't hope to have any broken shutters, I do trust that I can get a hold of a local company and get them to repair the shutter. 5) they custom paint the shutters to the color of your choice at no extra charge so it matches all trim. 6) Quality of their materials. The type of wood the fact that they aren't filled is a plus! They were professional, realistic in their timing and I couldn't be happier with the quality that I received. We have a western facing wall of windows in our downstairs family room, which means a lot of sun in the afternoon. It was so bad at that I thought I would have to get a welding helmet to be able to navigate. We tinted the windows when we moved in, and had the normal 2' vinyl blinds installed, but that only partially resolved the issue. The windows are in an arrangement of two rows, with the bottom row being 42"W * 60"H rectangles. The windows above them are the same 42"W, but the ones on the outside are quarter arches, (think 90 degrees of a circle), and the one in the middle has a half circle at the top of it. We thought we would never be able to get blinds for that top row, due to the shape of the windows. Earlier this summer, we came into some cash in the course of our mortgage refi; not our original intention, but Wells Fargo screwed up the paperwork, and what was already a 2 month process would have taken another 2-3 weeks. With this money, we thought we would finally take a look at getting wooden blinds for the windows, upper and lower. We called most, if not all, of the usual suspects in the area, and either heard that it couldn't be done, or were presented with a price that caused me to tell them that it wouldn't be done (by them). Southern Shutters was the only company that said our needs were a bit unusual, (the 42" width, not the arches), but that they could certainly do it. And the price they gave us was fair. I can't say enough about the quality of the work, and the professionalism of the Southern Shutters employees, from the quoter to the two guys that came and installed the blinds. We couldn't be happier with the product, and now can be in our house in late afternoon, without thinking we are stuck in a tanning bed! read more

Not sure why it's taken my so long to write a review, but I have nothing but good things to say about Southern Shutters and Blinds. The quality and fit of the finished product is amazing. We've now completed our whole house with custom plantation shutters from Southern Shutters and couldn't be more pleased with the final outcome. The shutters are stunning, and add a level of Southern charm to our home that no blinds or other window treatments could ever provide. The shutters are also fantastic at keeping the cold out and the heat in during winter, and vice versa the rest of the year. And mind you, we have dual pane, low-e vinyl windows, that do a great job on their own. But when complemented with our plantation shutters, it's a very noticeable difference. The company rep that came out to our house was courteous, kind, and down to earth. And even though we took a few years to finish the whole house, we always dealt with the same sales rep, which speaks volumes about a company. In fact, they're such an honest company, that they honored the original quote prices they had given us a year prior when we came back for our second of three orders, even though their pricing had gone up. "Warranty" Not So Much Great for install. Accomodating. However, they charged me $150 "travel fee" (I live in Georgetown) to fix an issue that was not related to misuse on my part. We recently had plantation shutters installed in our new home, and we are extremely pleased with the finished product. Chris came to our house which was still under construction and measured each window, showed me samples of the blinds, and offered valuable suggestions and information. One of the most thoughtful aspects of having blinds made by Southern Shutters and Blinds is that they provide temporary shades while the real shades are being produced. In previous homes while window coverings were being made we have had to just put paper up on the windows, and this looks terrible both inside and out. While plantation shutters are undoubtedly much more expensive than blinds, we feel that they enhance the house tremendously. When my husband and I purchased our home in Dripping Springs last Summer it came with store bought faux wood window blinds or none at all. We have both East and West exposure, so shutters were the best choice for us. Our last home had Plantation Shutters which I loved for their clean look, insulation properties which help block the extreme temperatures we experience here in Central Texas and easy cleaning. Shutters and Blinds in Georgetown, someone had recommended them, and compare prices. Gave one of the quotes to them with the sizes and was amazed that for A few dollars more per blind we could get the 21/2 inch wood blinds. Southern Shutters built shutters for our kitchen and wine room. First we had a few issues, 1 window (of 4) was mismeasured and, at delivery, we found the stain much darker than expected. I talked to Mark (the owner) who assured me he'd make it right. Everyone at Southern Shutters seemed to take pride in customer satisfaction and was genuinely concerned things weren't perfect. I purchased my home in 2013 and the previous owner had shutters installed by Southern Shutters Shades and Blinds from Georgetown. The little screw that moves the shutter came out of one and I couldn't repair it myself, so I called the company back after living in the house for three years. I have had nothing but trouble and disappointments with this company. Last year I did Hunter Douglas silhouettes for my master bedroom and bath. They arrived with the wrong pulls. They had to go back to the manufacturer and I waited months. I prefer to deal with local companies so this year I gave them an order for similar shades in the rest of the house. Three rooms are fine. The fourth came in too long and is back at the factory. I have temporary shades which do not cove the entire window thereby exposing my furniture to this Texas sun. This order was placed in May. They do not return phone calls. When I did reach the owner, Mark, he told me he would check on my order. I am still waiting. read more
