I did not have a great experience with Southern Sky Painting. Bob makes it sound like they do "meticulous" work, but they don't. Also added on extra charges at the end ($900), even after clarifying everything before the work was performed. Overall, work was decent, but I can't recommend based on character and price gouging at the end. They painted the entire interior and exterior of the house. I have painted professionally, and I worked along-side the crew part of the time and was able to point out many other things along the way, that probably wouldn't have been done if I wasn't there. Here is a list of issues we had: Exterior: Did not properly scrape loose paint and fill cracks (partially fixed) Missed painting a board on soffit Painted gate wrong color (did fix) Had to go back and re-roll because of lines (did fix) Overspray in a few areas Sand painted into the front door Paint drips around the house Interior: Overspray onto floors and cabinets Paint drips on floor throughout Missed entire sections of wall Did not paint ceiling in 2 closets (was on contract) Did not perform work that he verbally agreed to but didn't want to write into the contract Paint on door handles and outlets Biggest issue was add-on prices and failure to stick with their word. Then, when the job was "done" would not respond to phone calls. Except for billing, when he tried twist contract wording to justify huge add on costs. I can't work with or recommend people like that. read more

I had Steve come out for an estimate for an entire interior painting job and he was very professional. This company listed handyman services which I need for a few things that need doing before painting and was informed when he got to me they no longer do handyman work. The estimate was a bit high but the other Yelp reviews were good and I would pay more for quality and less issues! I am waiting for an estimate from a handyman/painter rather then hire 2 people... From the first contact I realized Southern Sky may not be the typical SFL painter. They responded quickly to my initial inquiry. The estimator was punctual, honest and personable. He delivered the estimate quickly as promised. The estimate was the lowest of the three I received. I contacted the highest bidder to ask how to proceed with the painting (I was very comfortable with the estimator). I never heard back from them. I signed Southern Sky's proposal electronically, paid the deposit and was placed on the schedule. They showed up on time, worked quickly and professionally. What a wonderful experience with a painting company! Would highly, highly recommend, AND we will use again. We had a really tough job, a time crunch before moving into our new home, and they exceeded all expectations. Keep reading the novel below if you'd like to hear why Southern Sky will get my business the next time we have painting (or wallpaper removal) needs. We bought a home and upon closing, had 10 days before the moving company arrived with our furniture. Problem was, in total we had 3 bathrooms, a dining room, a guest room and a master bedroom with a border COVERED in 20-year-old wall paper. If just left to me, my fiancée and her dad, we would have spent all 10 days trying to remove that miserable wallpaper, likely failed, gotten so frustrated at the tediousness of the work it probably would've ended our relationship and thus we would've sold the house. Everything Southern Sky did was absolutely professional from beginning to end. They showed up the day I called requesting an estimate. Steve gave us a great estimate, was very informative and the quote came in from Diana the same day. Day 1 they showed up at 8am sharp and went straight to work. The whole crew is Brazilian and it feels very much like a family-run business. Adriano, the project manager, did everything he could to make our experience perfect. At the end of day 2 and the completion of the job, some of the walls weren't perfect so Adriano came in and used the 20-min mud to "make sure your walls look great." It's clear this company takes pride in their work, from the crew all the way to project manager. If all of that isn't evidence enough to use Southern Sky, how about this... The day after they finished, I noticed that some of the chair rail in the dining room had been lightly speckled from the oil prime rolling. I called Diana and she immediately responded that Adriano, the guy in charge of the 14-person crew, would personally show up the next day before lunch to fix the chair rail. 33 years in the business and he still takes joy in making the job right. Not only did he sand it, but as I handed him the trim paint to repaint, he made a suggestion that we use a different trim paint that would really make our dining room look immaculate. I thought after the suggestion he was done. Nope. He put down his drop cloth and redid the entire dining room with his paint he suggested. He saw another opportunity to make this a special experience for a homeowner and ran with it. The dining room to our first home we've owned now looks twice as good as it did before their crew showed up (and we had just painted it before they took the job), and it wasn't even in the quote or job description. They could change their name to Above & Beyond Painting because that's what they did from the time they walked in to the time they walked out. Highly recommend......clearly. read more

Would not hire again. I had Sheetrock patching and interior paint after water damage. Sheet rock was poor to say the least. Large gaps filled with sparkling paste rather than fill with sheet rock and patch in seems so it cracked later. Next to no finish sanding done . Patch work done around outlet plates without removing the plate. After seeing their work I chose to fix the issues myself. Painters not much better, overspray and drips on baseboards, don't take time to mask off properly around cabinet edges and door handles. They did not take time to correct overpaint on cabinets or windows frames unless we pointed it out to them. Owners made concession on the price but I'm still finding the crews lack of attention and workmanship. read more

Did not make good on any damages. Broke a door jam, cracked a few tiles, left paint on furniture. When I called to complain, they denied that their workers did any of it. In addition paint is lifting in a corner of my dining room and they claim it is a drywall issue and I should hire someone to repair. They are the ones that prepped my walls and never bought any drywall issues to my attention. read more

Its been a long time since I have been so impressed by any contractor or service provider. All I could say was WOW when I saw the beautiful work done. My husband had the same reaction. We needed our popcorn ceilings removed. I did due diligence and got several quotes -- all of which told me what a tough job it is and that they needed at least a week. The thought of it had me in a slight panic. Southern told me they needed three days. Getting the quote was painless and the gentleman that provided it was really super nice. So we chose them. Well .......first day they took the popcorn down and put the beautiful knockdown up in just five hours. There were five guys and they were so nice and very polite. I think they were happy people because they were singing and having a good time when they worked. Then they came back to paint after skipping a day for drying time. That took four hours. That was it!!!! And it looks amazing. Seriously amazing. I'm still in awe. I highly recommend Southern. I strongly believe this company is run perfectly and employees must be treated well. We just had the "popcorn" removed from the ceilings throughout our house which is just under 2000 sq. Ft We used Southern Sky Painting and Popcorn Removal from Lake Worth. They sent in a very professional crew of three men who carefully prepared the house by putting down plastic, removing Iight fixtures, fan blades, vents, etc. In only one day they removed all the popcorn, sprayed the ceiling with a light texture (called knockdown), removed all the plastic, put back the furniture, and cleaned up everything so that we didn't even have to move out for a few days. They let the ceiling dry for a day and then returned with five painters to paint the ceiling with two coats of paint after again preparing the house with plastic. They then put back all the furniture, light fixtures, ceiling fan blades and vents. It was a very clean and professional job. We would definitely recommend them to our neighbors and friends. read more

WOW! What a great company! My condo looked like it was 1980! I had a 24 ft mirrored wall taken down, the crew from SSP smoothed it out, and made it look brand new. The popcorn ceiling was removed, and knockdown texture applied. Then they installed crown and base molding and then my living/dining room, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and the hallway were painted. The whole team has an eye for detail. Everything was scrutinized before they left. They also did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. My new home actually looks brand new! I chose Southern Sky because they seemed like a reputable company. Bob was friendly and professional when he came to give an estimate. Sherry and Diana were also great to deal with. The painting crew was friendly and did a great job painting our house, hence the reason I'm giving them any stars. The rating is due to the shady nature of the company. The estimate was more than $1,000 higher than other bids, but we decided to go with Southern Sky because they were supposedly using a better quality of paint, Sherwin Williams Duration. I even verified with Diana a few days before that they would be using that paint. She mentioned that sometimes the paint isn't in stock but if that was the case, they would use the Benjamin Moore equivalent. However, after the first day, I noticed a bucket of Sherwin Williams SuperPaint, which was NOT what I originally agreed to. I checked the contract and they had changed the type of paint to say SuperPaint. When I spoke to Bob, he proceeded to gaslight me and tell me that they never use Duration. I know for a fact that's what it was because that's the specific reason I chose them, not to mention, I write everything down. I even researched to see what the difference was between Duration and SuperPaint because the other companies were using SuperPaint. I printed out the original proposal, but unfortunately, in a lapse of judgement, I threw it out literally two days prior. I checked my Nest cam to see if it caught the original conversation, it did but unfortunately we're off-camera. Word to the wise, if you decide to use Southern Sky, print out your proposal before signing, print out your contract before signing, then print it out again after signing, and make sure you're getting what you paid for. read more
