After striking out at Goodwill after Goodwill and thrift store after thrift store, we popped into our first "Southern Thrift" here and within minutes found what we were looking for (certain clothing items for our Halloween costumes). While this is obviously a hit and miss proposition given to thrifting in general, credit where it is due to Southern Thrift---massive inventory and selection, great clean organization, super fair prices, and friendly staff. After digging through clothes and finding what we needed I perused the books, records and other media and snagged a few deals. Plenty of parking as well. We'll definitely make this a regular spot in the thrifting rotation. read more

After first moving to Nashville, I was seriously disappointed with the thrift store options around here. Goodwill being one of the worst I've seen (they pre pick and filter through donations and sell the best online so you're left with sloppy seconds in the store, this goes for any Goodwill). Also, I'm not a vintage shopping kind of gal, which seems to be most popular around here. It's just not the kind of apparel I wear on the regular, but if I were to shop vintage I rather score a find for a fraction of the price at a thrift store. Ok enough about my particularities, but given all that, when I walked into Southern Thrift, I knew that THIS was my place. First, the selection is huge, it's not some small boutique thrift store. Secondly, everything is nicely organized by size and apparel type, and on a Saturday the store was pretty neat, well kept, and not crowded to my surprise. They price every item individually, rather than a flat rate for all shirts, or all pants which you normally see. I bought a super casual t-shirt for $1.99 and something a little fancier for $5.99. Makes sense, as there are variations in brands, quality, and style that should be taken into account when pricing. I'm anxious to check out their other two locations (2710 Old Lebanon Rd & 5010 Charlotte Pike) in Nashville. Between all of the locations, this should take care of my thrifting binges! read more

I miss the location in Donelson! I still find some good things, but they obviously cater to a different crowd here. While there is nothing wrong with that, I miss being able to walk in and find Suites for work. So, yeah I miss the other location, but it's no longer operating. read more

I've bought CDs here for years. Today, I picked out a dozen or so and went to check out. When I mentioned that they were the color of the day, the kid checking me out looked at me like I had a third eye. He had the manager come up and tell me that they no longer honored the color of the day on media of any kind. There wasn't any signage noting this. Then when he rang them up, they were charging $1.59 each for them instead of the $.99 that they have been forever. I mean, people give them this stuff. You can buy CDs all day long at McKays for $.25-$.95. I'll just do my shopping there in the future. read more

I'm a huge thrifter and LOVE the Southern Thrift on Charlotte, which I frequent. This location, however, is quite different which is interesting. The prices are really high for the product considering it IS used. I can understand if something is in mint condition but nearly every single jacket is $15+ that are very worn and some are even cheaper than that originally in retail. Don't even get me started on the shoes and bags, it's even worse. The lighting throughout the store is also really bad, it's hard to see in some areas. I haven't been to this location many times, and I don't think I'll be heading back anytime soon. read more

Pretty organized, but man was the customer service awful. I did not feel comfortable in here, and I'm the type to "kill 'em with kindness." Sometimes it turns peoples attitudes around, but not here. I spent a pretty penny with a full cart. The prices were great, but I probably will head to a different thrift store next time. read more

This is probably my favorite thrift store in town. I like it because it probably has the widest selection of merchandise. I've been able to find great sporting goods, housewares, books, home decor items and clothes. I regularly find name brand, mens shirts in great condition here for about $5 each. All of them are next to new and they retail for $30-$100. Lots of turnover in this store, so check back often for new stuff. read more

The pros - The items are organized by size. Love this. The store is well marked. There is a lot of merchandise in this store. The do a color every week and that one is 50% off. Just like Goodwill. The cons - I thought things in here were expensive. They have pulled out items of clothing that still had the store tags on them and some of the prices were very high. I will make it one of my regular haunts since it is close to my home. read more

The selection of clothes there is unreal! Def. a place you want to go if you are looking for some cool new (to you) threads. However, be forewarned they know what they have and certain things are a bit higher than you would expect for a thrift store. The only part I didn't dig was there wasn't a ton of other stuff besides clothes and accessories. Sure they have knickknacks in between the clothes racks, but I like a healthy selection of them to rummage through. Other than that, no complaints. Prices vary and some of the items I found had damage, burn holes and tears. They sell everything as is, no returns. I don't like that. They have a very confusing price slashing color of the day thing that they announced over the loud speaker 4 times during my hour shop. I still don't understand how it works. Apparently today was a yellow day? I prefer Goodwill to this place. They also keep the bathrooms locked up. Gotta ask for a key to pee. Annoying. Its just a bathroom. Calm down. All that said, its definitely got an assortment of interesting items, but nothing overly special. Just your average thrift store junk. read more

I'm a little confused about the pricing as some items are a GREAT deal and yet others are WAAY overpriced. Paperbacks are .99 and hardbacks are 2.99 - see what I mean? The clothes weren't that great and yes, overpriced. I'd rate this just ok, but then sometimes you score big at thrift stores and sometimes you don't. My FAVORITE thrift store on this side of town. From the outside it doesn't appear like much, but there are so many goodies inside. Their clothing selection is far superior to the likes of Goodwill, etc. They have so many different items here: clothing, shoes, books, random odds and ends, kitchenware, toys, bedding, jewelry, purses, furniture, and the list goes on! Prices are quite reasonable, and I almost always find a little gem here whenever I visit. They have a few dressing rooms in case you need to try things on. The store is well laid out and organized, so shopping isn't a complete nightmare/dumpster dive like some thrift stores. Give it a try! read more

The store is nicely laid out. But when I see a target coat you can get at TARGET for 30 dollars priced here for 24 it's outrageous. Coach boots for 69. Sweaters are 8-15!youre a thirft store. Emphasize the word THRIFT : save money not waste. You are not a boutique. Stop taking advantage of folks who come in there to save money. Won't be back to any of your chain stores. Walmart brands you try to sell over priced. Makes no sense. On top of the the staff were rude and didn't acknowledge my arrival. Yea, this place is legit. The prices are a bit more expensive than I'd like to pay for used clothing, but htere is a variety and lots of knick knacks and useful old stuff. It's a fun place to visit if I need something or just want to waste time/spend money...which is often. read more

The selection of clothing is above average in comparison to other thrift stores in and around the Nashville area, but you will also pay above average prices. The customer service is below average at best. I would say they definitely need improvement in a few areas. read more

My husband and I are from California and stopped by here during our southern road trip. I own a handmade business and sell vintage clothing so I wanted take time to scout some southern shops for charming pieces to add to my collection. I loved the vast selection here, but I did find that some of the prices were higher than they should have been on certain clothing items, particularly ones that still had tags on them. I totally understand that NWT items should cost more because they haven't been worn, but some of the pricing was more than you would pay at a retail store. Other than that, I thought it was a great experience and the gal at the cashier counter was super friendly. I really appreciate good customer service and I can say that we received great service here. We really enjoyed searching through the shop and part of the fun of thrifting is hunting for those special pieces. Every thrift store piece has history, so it's neat to look through things that have stories behind them, although we don't always know what they are. I definitely could have spent hours browsing the store, but we had to get back on the road. Highly recommend this shop for thrift store enthusiasts. read more

This place is Extremely overpriced! Some of the "new" items cost more than what you could buy them for at the department store! (Oh, I checked on a few things using my phone while I was in there and some of the items were considerably less at the department stores) Another problem that I have with this place is that they have cleaners in there all of the time, which is a good thing, but you can NEVER get around the store without being blocked by a cart of cleaning supplies and the employees in your way. Seems like they should have these cleaning people in during closing hours! I wont be back. The place is just way to overpriced to be considered a "thrift store". It's more like a junky WalMart if you ask me. And, it's pretty much the same way at every location that they have here in Nashville. It's one thing to be clean, but its another to walk into a place that will take your breath away with the amount of cleaner that is flowing through the air. read more
