Melissa Dodson has managed my care for 5 years now with consideration and knowledge that have completely turned my life around. I started experiencing headaches in 2020 and after visiting multiple doctors to try to determine the root cause, ended up at Southland Neurologic. My case was unusual, occasional headaches behind my right eye triggered by driving and standing up and sneezing. Melissa got me a CT scan and tried various medicines and eventually figured it all out. My trigeminal nerve acts up and causes the headaches and can be "calmed down" with two simple drugs taken daily. (I am probably not getting the medical details quite right, forgive me Melissa!) But I am able to function and exert myself and work and do everything thanks to Melissa's persistence and smarts and care. read more

Southland Neuro's Melissa Dodson NP, has been taking care of me since 2022. In 2023, I had a major stroke and bypass. She knows her stuff and works closely with the neurologist to plan my care. The best part is that she always has the time to return my calls and addresses any of my questions in regards to my care. I am doing better and progressing because of her and the team at Southland neuro. I truly love and appreciate her for always being there and treating me like I am important and not just her patient. I can't recommend her and Southland neuro enough. I might not be where I am at in my recovery without her and Southland Neuro. read more

Where do I start? I have been trying to get an appointment to see a doctor since 10/15/2024. I would leave voice mails however, no one ever called back. The few times I actually was able to speak with someone over the phone, they wouldn't schedule me for an appointment, because they claimed they never received a referral, though my Doctor sent out multiple referrals to them. I would call the same day, or 24 hrs later, after my doctor sent out the referral to this location, and yet the individuals at the front desk would still claim they never received anything. I finally printed out my personal copy of the referral and went into the office to make the appointment. While there, I witnessed two of the employees at the front desk, refusing to answer the phone. The individuals claimed they were tired, and they no longer wanted to deal with the potential patient who was calling. That is insulting, appalling, absolutely ridiculous, and unprofessional. The owner of this office needs to do a better job and address this issue of dereliction. As per the other reviews here, this has been a pervasive issue, for a while. I should not have to drive to the office to make an appointment; furthermore, it should not take me two months to just to get into contact with staff, so I can obtain an appointment. read more

I had a stroke in February, my discharge paperwork stated to see Neurologist in 3 weeks. My neurologist was Dr. Matloobi. I tried calling and ended up leaving a voice mail. I received the call back and was told the earliest I could see the neurologist was, June 21. What the honk!! It was stated, three week NOT 4 months! What a total joke, I am pissed. read more

She asked what insurance I have and she was very aloof like yeah we don't take that insurance and condescendingly called me honey. So Dr. Patel, I hope you actually read this review and the reviews of all the unhappy people on Yelp. It is ultimately your responsibility as the owner to make things right. Is it possible for someone from the call center to call me please? I can not deal with the front desk people anymore. To be clear, I'm sure I have not spoken to every single person who works at the front desk. I am sure not all are the same but most experiences I have had in person or on the phone with the front desk have been flat out horrible. I somehow connected with a women answering urgent calls only one time and she was the nicest most empathetic person I had ever spoken too. I have worked a front desk position in a healthcare setting before. I can empathize with call volume, expectations, the way some people act entitled, etc. I am NOT one of those people. I don't understand how mean some of the front desk people can be and how nothing has changed over the years. I could write a lonngg review but just for one example: I was seen by a neurologist I had been waiting months and months to see. This time around I made sure to push out the questions I had since the appointment was feeling rushed again. It went ok and I was happy with the doctor. He forgot to tell me when to come back for a follow up. Instead of the front desk girl asking him she said well how about "x" amount of time. I was annoyed but said ok Ill take it for now. It was booked far out. She quickly booked it and closed the sliding door before I could ask more questions I had. When I arrived there it was the same thing. She had an attitude of "I do what I want and I don't care." Another time I spoke to a women on the phone who talked over me when I was not being difficult or rude and I over heard her pass information I said to a coworker that was not accurate. I kindly tried to correct her and she raised her voice saying "hold on mam." She had no empathy and also made it sound like I didn't want help with my neurological issue with other things that she said to me. I am completely drained and emotional over trying to figure out this health problem that I have. Please evaluate some of the front desk employees. I hate to think that some of the front desk employees are speaking to more vulnerable fragile patients the way they are. Again, just to reiterate I am not saying all front desk employees are mean or need more training but there are definitely some that aren't nice at all. Im usually not a person writes reviews and speaks up but I can't take it anymore. It may be partially my fault for not speaking up in the past..but I am now. This place is wonderful I love the Dr. I have seen 2 times, she spent a lot of time with me in both visits, she seemed to really care and that's very hard to find with any specialist or dr. I'm very very happy with them. I have to see a neurosurgeon now and they still want to see me and see how I'm doing. When she arrived to pick up a paper the front staff was to busy doing each other's hair to acknowledge her. She had to ask for help. Five for Dr. Omidvar and zero for the office staff. There's one particular staff member who always acts as if she doesn't want to do her job. The first time I experienced her it was deep in the pandemic and I was the last appointment of the day. How do I know this? Because she had to mention it when I arrived and complained to the two other members of staff still in the office. I didn't say anything because I felt maybe she's having a bad day and wants to get home. But no five times later her behaviour is still the same and it has gotten old. Literally sighing and huffing air on the phone and in person. I don't remember her name but she is his assistant. When she checks your blood pressure she has a bad attitude and poor bedside manner which is horrible to deal with while already dealing with pain and health issues. Liza and Dr. Omidvar are great. Honestly the other staff has been good too. If I have to deal with her huffing and puffing in the office or on the phone again I'm going to complain directly to the Dr. because she clearly doesn't like her job. I've been taking my mom here for the last 8 months and the front office staff are rude and unprofessional. I can't rate the doctor because my mother has never even seen the actual doctor, only the NP (who is very sweet). I left very important paperwork for the doctor/NP to complete for my mom and when i returned to get them a page was left blank. When I brought it to the front office attention I had five people look at me with blank stares. They were playing with each other's hair and made me feel like I was interrupting something important. I had to leave the paperwork there again and never received a call that they were ready to pick up again. When we went back weeks later they couldn't find the paperwork. Magically the paperwork was found after speaking to the office manager. Unfortunately the paperwork was still not completed correctly. Because of the front office staff we will be requesting a new neurologist office to go to. Please get your staff some training on manners! read more

It breaks my heart to have to write this review. My mother saw Dr. Patel for many years for her Alzheimer's. Dr. Patel is a kind and professional physician. Recently my husband needed to see a neurologist so of course we thought of Dr. Patel first. When I finally got to speak to someone after trying for 3 days, Amanda at the appointment desk told me that the information that I faxed was not received even though I had gotten confirmation. I was told to fax it again and that she would call back within two hours. Never got a call back and of course it being a Friday I had to wait until Monday to talk to someone in the office. Again no response so on Tuesday I called and asked to speak to the Office Manager, the person who answered the phone said the Manager was in a meeting but could she help me. I went through the whole story and she proceeded to tell me that Dr. Patel wasn't seeing new patients. I told her how the office had wasted my time and why wasn't I given this information to begin with. I am a Medical Office Manager for two cardiologist and can tell when the professional work force has broken down. And PLEASE do not blame it on the Corona Virus. Unfortunately for Dr. Patel I am afraid he will continue to lose PPO patients. I guess I should have check yelp first to see all the other disappointed patients. read more

My daughter just spent over an hour in a very UNcrowded waiting room. After over an hour passed, one of the office workers finally acknowledge my daughter by remarking that they would getting to her as soon as possible. When I inquired about how long that would be... I was not given a very firm answer; they said they couldn't really tell me... When I said again that my daughter been already waiting over an hour for her appointment which was scheduled at 11:30 and it's now after 12:35, they said "well the nurse was looking over her paperwork" but they weren't sure when they'll be able to see her. At that point I got up and took my daughter and we left! It is very frustrating to be waiting for an infusion of medicine that could potential make her feel a whole lot better... And no one in that office seems to have any empathy or concern about it whatsoever! And considering they had complete disregard for her time and it was basically too bad for her! When a person is suffering with an illness and that person is needing relief and the only relief they can get is the medication being prescribed by the doctor... And this facility could not care less... It's beyond frustrating it's just plain cruel! An awful experience! ****Update! We did return because my daughter still needed her infusion and this was the only place she could go. I have to say, it was a MUCH better experience! She got in to her appointment quickly with no delays. The entire staff were helpful and attentive throughout her time there. I feel it's only fair to report the good things, too. I visit Dr. Ramezan-Arab at this location and have always had positive experiences. They have always been prompt when answering the phone, or when the few times they are busy and I leave a message they will call back promptly. The office staff are always very friendly, and the doctor himself is very competent and a good person too. When I was first diagnosed with seizures brought on by previously undiagnosed epilepsy, I had a hard time finding a neurologist in the Long Beach area who was accepting new patients. This area is full of millions of people and you can easily read up about the doctor shortage in Southern California. I contacted Dr. Ramezan-Arab's office a year ago and explained my issues to them. Not only were they worried about the urgent nature of my issues, they went out of their way to find me a quick appointment time in days so they could take over from my primary care doctor. Now over 12 months later I am in much better health and in my eyes it is thanks to Dr. Ramezan-Arab and this office. It is easy to forget how busy a doctor's office can be if you do not deal with them often, but I have I have had to visit nearly a dozen over the past 3 years and this one is near the top for service and care from the staff and Dr. Ramezan-Arab himself is one of the best neurologists in the area. read more

I love Dr. Odmivar. He is the best Neurologist on the planet. I can't say much for his office staff which is why I didn't give three stars. But he is worth the headache of the office staff issue. Although Letty is awesome and has gone above and beyond to help me. Dr. Odmivar is the best ever. I have never received such great care from a Neurologist. Dr. Odmivar really cares about how is patients are doing and goes beyond what other doctors I have had do. I am grateful I got referred here. My husband has been a patient with Southland for several years so we have been through everything with this staff. They intercept messages left on the portal and don't review the last request sent the day before. So their answers are not answering my issue. The office staff lie for each other and they think we don't know. Mess up medication request to the point that he runs out of the much needed drugs. Brain cancer is painful but they don't care. Waiting 2 weeks to a month for pain meds is in humane. After getting a 1 week supply that he had to wait over 2 weeks for now another 2+ weeks for a full month we now have to straighten out the mess they made for the other pain meds. This has been going for 2 weeks! They screwed up this one also! No empathy just want to cover up what they fail to do right. I was told to "be patient ". A year ago we went to his appointment and after waiting in the office for almost 10 minutes we were told they were closed and waiting for "COVID CLEANING CREW! I tried to get an appointment for my husband. I called 2 times a day, and never spoke to anyone. The recording states to leave a message and you will be called back the next day. I called for months, sometimes daily, other times 2-3 times a week. I begged, pleaded and on some messages was crying, asking them to PLEASE CALL ME. I carried my phone all day. I even went on line and begged them to call me so I could make an appointment, finally one day out of the blue they called me, let it ring about 3 times and hung up. They did not leave any message. I called back within 3 minutes and advised them I just missed their return call, but they did not call back. I called several weeks more, and nothing. I really don't understand how the medical staff can tolerate this type of indifference. Only explanation, must be family that can't be fired! read more

They don't answer the phone and do not return calls even tho their message says they check messages through out the day. The office staff here doesn't seem to have it together. First appointment - cancelled one hour prior to scheduled appointment. I had to be very assertive to get in to see the doctor that day since I had taken the entire day off from work, and they had one digit of the authorization wrong. I had to make multiple calls to solve the issue between their office and the original doctor requesting the visit. Secondly, the next appointment was confirmed via text and then, the office called to cancel, but could not offer any appointments that would work, so staff offered to call back with alternatives. I confirmed that my appointment was cancelled and no one ever called with alternatives, but on the day of the original appointment, I received a text that my appointment was NOT cancelled. I called and they told me to come in one hour. I could no longer make it as the appointment was cancelled. I rescheduled the appointment for the Los Al location. Then, I received a call appx 1 week prior to that appointment and they could get me in that day. I arrived to the appointment 45 min early and at the appointment time, they informed me that the doctor was running 30 min. behind. It was more than 30 minutes. While I was offered water, the confusion, cancellations, and miscommunications were incredibly frustrating. The doctor seems nice, but just getting in to see him is not worth the hassle. read more

Terrible, these people are idiots, My wife tried two Doctors, One does not take new patients and the other doesn't take Blue Cross PPO, they asked for a referral which you don't need with a PPO. Your front staff gets a - 3 stars. Doctor gets a 4 stars so here's the result. Front staff doesn't know empathy, customer service, manners, urgency, and finally, THEY NEVER ANSWER THEIR PHONES. Call at anytime from 10 to 3:30 and you are flipping a coin to get an answer. But walk in and you'll have 4 to 5 deer in the headlight looks from the office staff. They have made this whole experience far more stressful and angering than any Dr. Appointment ever. Can't get my records together after days and days of calls. They leave out half the records and give me attitude every time I have to call back to get what I requested. I went in and they all were scared of a young adult who medically requires his prescription to survive. They showed no urgency. FOLKS GO ANYWHERE ELSE IF YOU TRULY VALUE YOUR HEALTH. The doctor at my Urgent Care tried referring me here so despite all the horrible reviews, I tried making an appointment. I called and told them I have PPO insurance. They said I needed a referral. I told them I technically don't because I have PPO insurance. They said they need a referral from the doctor stating why I'm being referred. I actually have a piece of paper from my doctor at urgent care referring me to this neurologist but it doesn't state the reason why so they told me I'd have to go back to urgent care to get this. Uhhh no thanks. I'll just find a different doctor. Absolutely incompetent staff this place has. read more
