I took my wife and family to Southland A few weeks ago. we were able to get in quickly ( usually ) a wait. The server we had, she was on point. Handling our table and a few larger tables. She never missed a beat and checked on us consistently! We all ordered steaks and everybody said theirs was cooked perfectly, flavor was great and it was tender. Salads we very good and so were the potatoes. I wish more restaurants nearby were this good. this area is lacking in good quality restaurants! read more

Zebulon has very limited restaurants to offer, especially sit down so this place is a gem and always busy. We have gone before and left due to a very long wait but we finally made it into visit and can understand why. The atmosphere is a bit outdated but the bbq sauce makes up for it. I foolishly ordered the Alfredo at a steak house which left more to be desired but the bbq sauce was "finger-licking-good"! My husband had the ribs and they fell off the bone. What a lovely menu for a pescatarian!!! Several veggie and fish options, which is a rarity in this region. We went there for my birthday, they let us bring our own cake, facilitated the serving, and even helped with the celebration. Everyone enjoyed their food which included: potato skins, crab dip, prime rib dip, cheesesteak(?), blackened and fried shrimp platter with pesto risotto, grilled pork chop dinner, and a burger. Had dinner at Southland Steakhouse last night. Starting off with a Buffalo Shrimp appetizer. A New York steak cooked to perfection, smothered in sautéed onions, broccoli in a buttery garlic sauce, and a baked potato. My wife had a center cut Fillet Mignon that was absolutely delicious. The service was exceptional with my glass being refilled before it was empty. Just can't say enough about this place. read more

Thoroughly impressed with this place for the price. The lobster bisque and the baked oysters were both so hearty and true comfort food. I love that the soup comes in a mug. Prices seem high for the quality of the steaks. Steaks prepared well just more expensive than retirees can afford.

This restaurant is a hidden gem. It is surprisingly huge with seating for all. I have rarely had to wait more than 15 minutes to get a table and you can always wait in the ample seating of the bar. Not just a steakhouse, their chicken and pastas are good too. But if you like prime rib and want a special meal, theirs is top notch. Its hidden in the back of the shopping center behind Belks and Roses, so some people miss it. But just google it and get directions, there isn't as nice of a restaurant within 30 miles that delivers consistently good food. Worth a visit if you are coming to or by Zebulon, NC. read more

I ordered PRIME RIB. This is the second time I've tried the Prime Rib!! It's worse than shoe leather!! I mean come on!! I thought after the first time it was just an off night, but a second chance and it is still as tough as shoe leather or worse. Plus no flavor! They do not take reservations and the wait can be more than 1 hour- getting there early right when they open is what we chose to do. John Aceti chose Southland Steakhouse for our date this week. We heard from Pat Kendrick and her friend John McGuire that it was under new management and really good - and it was! We had a terrific waitress, Brie, and after hearing the specials we ordered. I had a salad and a great burger. I ate all the salad and brought half the burger home, it was good but I was full. I might have stolen a few of John's sweet potato fries. They are so good! Crispy, flavorfull and cooked just right so the inside is tender but not mushy! 10 out of 10. John got the prime rib, salad and the sweet potato fries. He said it was really good. They had a special on ribs, chicken, salad and steak fries so he got that to go for down the week. The other special was shrimp and corn chowder but we did not try that. So nice to have a lovely restaurant close by! read more

We've been here twice now. Once for my daughters birthday and another to bring my parents. I personally enjoyed my food both times. Their prime rib is one dish I would personally avoid at all costs. It's not good. But the crab dip was very yummy and we had the crème brûlée for dessert. When the top wasn't crunchy we asked for it to be re hardened and they took care of it. Our server was always very attentive and took care of us each time. The crap dip is seasoned well and the bread to go with it is crunch but soft. We loved this place and would go back. Our only complaint was the last time we went the to go host was rude to my mom who unloaded my children because she was in a curbside spot. She wasn't friendly about it. But we were there at 7:30 and they close at 8:30. The hostess could have approached that situation differently my mom was planning on moving anyways but it was 30 degrees outside and she wanted the kids to get inside instead of having to walk in the cold. read more

If you're looking for a classic steakhouse that clearly understands the art of making a damn good steak, this is it. "Old school" comes to mind when walking in the door, for some odd reason there is just something comforting about this place. I think it's a combination of the laid-back environment confidently telling you "We have nothing to prove" and the personable level of service you receive from the staff. Clearly, they are equipped and used to accommodating groups of any size, although the parking lot may be an indication there is no room at the inn, I would be rest assured they will accommodate, so just go on in and get yourself a table. I like the fact the menu is not the size of the yellow pages and a good indication they know what the hell they are doing! Never hesitate to order an appetizer on your first visit, just do yourselves a favor and share with the table, otherwise you may be leaving with a doggy bag. The filet was MORE than enough and cooked EXACTLY as I asked, the pesto risotto was very good and not overwhelming in flavor. Although they didn't have any bearnaise, the steak spoke for itself. Yes, they have steak sauce, but this is not the outback steakhouse so let's not insult the chef by treating his steak like a plate of fries. In my world dinner time is sacred, it is not something to be rushed! And yes, we like to be checked up on, but if I am still working on, my entree, do NOT ask me if I am ready for dessert, please! We moved to the area one year ago, and we were told by a neighbor to try Southland. We quickly fell in love with the place. The staff and the food are incredible and we love the ambience. It's that neighborhood place where we feel like they know us as soon as we walk in the door and we basically only go about once a month. Everything is made from scratch, sauces, salad dressing, soups. It's the highest quality. We just absolutely love the place. Sam, the owner's daughter is a delight always says hello when we come in. Half the place looks nice, wood on the walls, lots of black metal, the kind of cliche that makes a man beat his chest and feel good to be alive. The other half is the dining room at an assisted living facility. I was sat with the silver residents, greeted quickly, served efficiently, and had my salad well before I wondered where it was. Their unique caesar salad stands out only for the volume of dressing, less for the dressing having enough anchovy. The strip had a chunk of inedibility all the way down one side that ended up in the trash. There were things to chew for a long time inside the steak as well, and some parts of the medium rare meat were more chewy than strip I've ordered elsewhere. It's about all I order so I have decades of basis. Maybe it's the rancher, but the kitchen can't seem to correct for it. I had green beans with onions and bacon that I will experiment with in my kitchen because they were very tasty but I think I can get them across the line on the measure I use to return to a restaurant: can I cook this better than they can? read more

On 12/06/2024 we had our annual Christmas dinner for our Painting company which included 30 guests. The experience there was over the top excellent. Our two exclusive servers were outstanding. Appetizers were phenomenal. The main courses were delicious. The Prime Rib and Shrimp plate was exquisite. The 14oz. Ribeye was succulent. The Pork chops were cooked to perfection and were juicy. This is the best thing going on in Zebulon. The staff here are pleasant and accommodating. The food is good considering this is Zebulon and there aren't many other restaurants where you can dine. I had the ribeye steak and the baked potato. Before that, as starters, I tried the buffalo shrimp and a garden salad. This shrimp is good. I would prefer romaine lettuce or spring mix for a salad I'm paying for Iceberg lettuce is a "no" for me. Overall, the service is pretty fast. I do think during these times restaurants should stay away from presetting the table. It's just too many people walking around without masks in here. I would prefer the silverware wrapped in napkins. read more

Another date night! I would describe this as more of a family steakhouse. They only do reservations for parties of 6 or more. There was a waitlist of 30 minutes, which was spot on what I was told. We began with Ceasar salads and an appetizer (wings). The wings were delicious and the salads had to be replaced with house salads and a different dressing. The Ceasar dressing was homemade and it just wasn't for us. Then we ordered our meals. We chose paradise chicken with risotto with a skewer of grilled shrimp and pineapple salsa and pork chop with mashed potatoes. Both dishes were very good. The risotto had just a little too much pesto but otherwise it would have been perfect! For dessert we chose turtle cheesecake and pineapple upside down cake. Both were delicious. The restaurant is very nice and able to accommodate large parties. Tables were adequately spaced for privacy and comfort. Food came out promptly and servers were very friendly and nice. Parking was easy as they have their own parking lot. Pricing is decently priced especially for a nice steakhouse each meal ranging from $15-$35 and served with sides. I've been here three times, and while the wait time is always long, it's expected since the place is really good. Last time, I had a ribeye steak, and everything about it was excellent--the portion was generous, the doneness was perfect, and the sides were delicious. I paired it with wine, which made for a great combination. My friends were also very happy with their food. The waitress was amazing--she was kind, attentive, and knew every detail of the menu. The Steak I ordered was amazing! Every time it is cooked just right and tender. The Salmon is also very good. Recently ate there and the service was unmatched by any restaurant anywhere! We had 8 people at our table and our server, AJ was right on time the entire evening! The best steak house in Raleigh is in Zebulon. Southland was a pleasant surprise. Restaurant has a rustic feel, more spacious than it looks, with table tops, bar and outdoor seating. We got the crab appetizer and two well made mixed drinks to start. The crab was a too much filler and little crab with a heavy old bay taste. We ate it since we had been fasting all day but next visit will try something else. The bread points were delish though. The main meals were a mixed grill and the classic prime rib. Clearly know how to cook a mean steak. The paradise chicken was not bad, but eating chicken 6 days out of 7, I wish I had opted for just the filet. Both steaks were really good and perfectly grilled. The shrimp skewer was like the crab, heavy on the seasoning. The Caesar salad was large and excellent, same for the sweet potato fries. The mushrooms were recommended but not to my taste. Absolutely do not leave without splitting the house made crème brûlée for dessert. Wait staff was attentive. TVs in bar area would make it a spot to just come for a drink and hang out.
