I watched the Bar Rescue episode for Characters turned Moon Runners years ago and was really glad to see that it was still alive and had a location in Garner. I really was rooting for the owners, and I'm glad they've been able to last, unlike many of the other establishments on Bar Rescue. Moon Runners has its own private parking lot. It's not large and can be harder to find a park on a Saturday evening or higher-volume times. I've been a handful of times, and service has been great every time. I've sat at tables, but also at the bar, and all of the staff have been friendly and helpful. Some of the food I've had includes: - Apps: Corn Nuggets, Fried Brussels Sprouts, Southern Fried Pickle Chips - Entrees: Steak Salad, Chicken Caesar Wrap, Wilkes County Wrap I've enjoyed my food every time except the pickle chips. They were cooked well, but had way too much batter for my liking. I ended up removing most of the batter because it was so much. Most of the cocktails are centered around moonshine, and there are a ton of options. Additionally, they also have a full bar, so if moonshine isn't your thing, you still have plenty of options. read more

The Salmon BLT is my go-to here. The garlic aioli and ciabatti make it. A great sized piece of salmon, fresh bacon slices. Oh, and the steamed broccoli with shaved parmesan as a side. Chef's kiss. The place seems very nice. When I went it was kind of slow but I can tell that the place is lively. The service was fast and the waitress was nice. Food was very good. Lots of items to choose. I ended up getting the crab dip and a steak salad. Crab dip. Very good. Could have a little less cheese and more dip but still pleasant. I had a medium steak cut on salad. Very tasty. And steak cooked well. My only down side was I thought I could have gotten more steak. After I was finished eating I overheard another table order extra steak. lol. I'll be back and I will get extra steak next time. My friend with me order half of rack. She ate them so fast I didn't get a chance to ask how they tasted. lol. Great. We've been to the new location a few times and I really wanted to like it, but the food has been consistently disappointing. Nothing tastes fresh, and the burgers in particular come across like pre-made patties rather than something made in-house. I'm sure they definitely run across the street to food lion for the premade patties. I've tried several options, hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately they all fell flat. One burger was overly drenched in hot sauce.... Yes hot sauce. Have yall heard of an aioli? That'll help you out tremendously. All I tasted was that vile hot sauce they picked out. On top of that, the service hasn't been great, and the overall cleanliness left me questioning the food quality. Servers also seem like they don't have a clue what they're doing. Their first day on earth lol. It's frustrating because this place has potential, with being on bar rescue but right now I wouldn't recommend it. There are definitely better burger restaurant option. Go to a place where they have passion for food and restaurants. Not a place just looking for a check. I have a strong feeling this place does not actually cooking. I had no idea that this was now Moon Runners. I decided I just had to try the catfish because it said it was a corn meal breading. I miss eating the cat fish @ Macs in Fayetteville. Unfortunately it is not what I was hoping for. The fries and slaw were good. My kids enjoyed their kids meals. The Alfredo sauce was great! My husband got a burger not sure which but he loved it! My boyfriend and I had dinner here tonight and I was very impressed! We were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated immediately. Our server was Emily and she was awesome. I had a flight of 4 moonshines and they were all really good. My favorite was the pineapple upside down cake. We started with a side of hush puppies as an appetizer. I ordered the catfish with fries and slaw and he ordered the Philly cheesesteak with fries. This was the first time I've ever had catfish and it was really good! It was very light and delicious. Wanted to love this place from the menu. But Brussels had some strange cinnamon flavor, chips had no flavor, baby backs had nearly zero meat and coleslaw was undressed cabbage.... But at least the service was nearly non-existent. Took over 35 min to get food and the place wasn't packed by any measure. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, but they appear to have a bit of an identity crisis. They serve a bar menu trying to be a restaurant. Our server was excellent and guided us well with the menu and asked for our honest feedback. Most of our food including the Reuben, Chicken Pesto sandwich and the brisket sandwich were super greasy and as hand held sandwiches, they had to be cut up. The brisket sandwich was quite small. One bright point was the side Caesar. It was delicious and was served cold and was very fresh. They had nice live music. I understand that their other location is was on bar rescue and was strictly a bar and has since closed. It feels like they transferred over a bar menu to a restaurant, so it feels like a mismatch. Poor execution on the food, but excellent service. If they can make tweaks to their menu, they may be worth a try. read more

Good menu choices and quality of the food was excellent (fresh and enough to eat). One small error in billing was quickly corrected. However, the food lacked seasoning! A friend recommended we try this new spot on 42. Post Christmas crowd was light, our party of 5 was seated immediately. Service was slow, considering half the tables were empty. Our waitress was watching her phone more than her customers, a bit annoying. The bourbon selection is massive, the cost is very high, per 1 oz. shot. Anyway, we enjoyed a couple different bourbons and all were tasty. Started dinner with the Brussel Sprouts and the Apple Pie Gray Fries - the fries were exceptional. Huge serving. Dinners followed with a mix of burgers, hot dogs, and the portobello sandwich. Portions were nice, flavors OK - nothing to get too excited about. Too much food to have room for dessert. The I-40/42 area is in need of new dining choices which makes the new Moon Runners a welcome addition. We both tried the Garlic Rubbed Steak Melt, so this review will be a bit monochromatic. This sandwich is not a play on a Philly Cheese Steak; instead it's a steak-tips sandwich. My sandwich didn't have any hint of garlic to it, so I guess whoever is back in the kitchen rubbing the sirloin with garlic cloves needs to up their game. The amount of meat on the sandwich was adequate but could have benefited from a bit more generous serving. Same goes for mostly-melted cheese. The sandwich was served warm, not hot, and definitely gave the impression that it had been assembled from pre-cooked ingredients. It was very forgettable and ranks a definite "OK". The baked potato side was fine. The interior was remodeled when opening Moon Runners from the carcass of Simple Twist; it definitely shows and it helps the restaurant feel relevant. Our server was trying but there were enough miscues, like taking our partially-full glasses while we were literally still holding them, that a bit of training would help. All in all, it is nice to have a new restaurant in the area. The overall experience is definitely just an OK and its overall value isn't especially high, but it has the magical property of being nearby, which counts for a lot. Based on the number of cars in the parking lot, there are plenty of others in this area that appreciate another mid-priced dining choice. read more

Visited moon runners during their soft opening limited menu. They will have full menu in September ( pics are of full menu). They have a wide variety of moonshines and beers on tap. My wife had the Reuben and it was excellent as were the fries . My chicken sandwich was okay. My onion straws were cold but they immediately brought out hot ones. Service was great. Husband has the brisket grilled cheese and said it was delicious. I had the chicken pesto pasta. Pasta was great, chicken did not have enough flavor/seasoning. We both got moonshine cocktails- neither tasted like they had any alcohol in them. Was told there was 1.5-2.5 shots- after finishing them- still no alcohol effects (I am a total light weight). If you've seen the episodes of Bar Rescue that feature Moonrunners Saloon, it's really hard not to root for success of these guys. We went as a party of four to the newly opened second location . Our server was Jessica, who was extremely attentive to our table. She was amazingly funny and interacted with our table so well. Her recommendations were spot on with the crab / lobster cheese dip and the fried pickle appetizers. Our entrees were everything from burgers, to brisket sandwiches, and the lovely Reuben that I got. Everything came out in a timely fashion and Jessica was always there to see how we were enjoying our drinks and food. I'm really happy to say that this place has really arrived. The food is prepared so well and the service exceeded expectations we really didn't have! We will definitely be back to Moonrunners in the future. Well done folks! read more

I had high hopes for Moon Runners after all the great word of mouth I have heard for a couple of years now. My mistake was going on a Friday after work. All I really wanted was a substantial burger and onion rings. When I saw the menu, they had a shrimp dip that sounded great. I Ordered that with a sweet tea for an appetizer. It was ok but way salty. Then again, I started getting salty too after I got the dip and 20 min later no one had come by to take my dinner order. So, I checked prices in menu (which were still at the table because I had not ordered my dinner yet. I did the math and left $23. She did not deserve the tip, but I gave it anyway. Will I be back? Nope! No one should be ignored so thoroughly. More ninjas like this. Truly sad read more

The food was good service was okay but the thing that caught me most off guard was the service fee you have to pay of you do not have cash. It would have been nice to know prior to going. No signage visible saying the extra fee which was $7 for our bill just to use a credit/debit card. Just not happy with a surprise extra fee that could have gone towards the tip. Amazing time, had an engagement event there and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate the many guests we had. The manager was on top of all my questions, the wait staff kept our drinks filled and accommodated multiple checks. I just had the experience of dining at Moon Runner while visiting family. The layout and atmosphere of the restaraunt was very open and inviting which made for comfortable dining. (I also got to watch my fav hunting and fishing shows, due to the tv screens mounted along the walls ! ) The food was fresh and well prepared. Dalys was an excellent server and she took great care of us. The great thing about service here is that every other wait staff person, host and manager who passed also checked on our table. Came with a large group of family, seated pretty quickly outside. Loved the seating outside, shaded and has fans. Paige was our server and she was so sweet! Service was quick.
