Southside Skatepark, in South Houston, has been there for ever and I didn't know it. I was not a skater, I was doing group sports learning to play nice, learning to be a team player, and learning to lose gracefully. A load of crap. Individual sports is where it's at. Teach them individualism, to work hard for what they want. My daughter is a lady and she is learning to skate like a boss. She falls and she gets back up to try, try, and try again. Don't worry she also is learning all the other stuff on hear roller derby team. We enjoy many skate parks, but because of the proximity of this one to our home it's a winner. Indoors too, rain or shine she can skate. Plus they have a shop to buy our skating needs. She just got her first real board and they fixed it up for her. It is an expensive sport. She's costing me way more on a monthly basis then her brothers cost several years of playing sports on city teams. She is usually the only girl here, I thought that would make her uncomfortable but most of the guys give her tips. Love her new skate friends! read more

Awesome gem in South Houston! The staff were cool, the ramps and bowls were maintained perfectly, and the vibe was on point. Great atmosphere and great playlist being played throughout the facility. My new favorite skate park. They allow quads and thankfully the space was very friendly to newbies(me). read more

How can no one have reviewed this place yet?? I have been to Southside several times for various competitions and days of fun (I do not skateboard but I have many friends and a husband who do) Every time I go they have changed their layout and there is always a really good age range of people who are either watching or participating. I'm pretty sure my first time here was a Young Gunz comp in like 06' and its amazing to see how many people all around Texas come out to these comps! There is a nice raised seating area that is almost like a deer stand that gives you a view of everything going on with some tables to munch on some stuff from the store downstairs. I tend to plant myself in front of the bowl and watch the old dudes shred it up. The area is kinda sketchy but as long as you park in their lot right outside the warehouse you should be ok. read more

As a beginner I really enjoy coming to this park because I'm not judged for my skill and I can learn from other skaters. They have a shop inside with everything you need. Support your local businesses!! This place is involved with the Houston community and youth which is awesome. They always have a lot of fun events/contests going on which brings people from all over the U.S. SS even does skate camps for the little ones. They have a large indoor skate park and shop conjoined with helpful and friendly staff. They have some unique brands and items you can't find at the mall. Southside is a known establishment for a reason and it's worth the visit! read more

I went with my 14 yr old son and four of his friends this weekend and could not have been more impressed. Skaters of all ages and skill levels were there getting their work in. The place was clean and I loved the atmosphere. The owner is engaged and strives to make it a great environment for all. We will definitely be going back. read more

This place is great! I took my 12 year old son here the other day because he got a skateboard for Christmas and due the bad weather, he was not able to skate at his normal park (Dylan Duncan). Even though it is a bit of a drive for us, we found it to be well worth the drive. Southside has plenty of stuff to skate regardless of the skill level of the skater. I find this place to be a great value at $10 for an all day skate session. We'll be back. read more

Southside Skatepark is not for you if, like me, you have a young skater looking for a family-friendly environment. My six year old is a fearless newish skater with typically a lot of confidence about trying to improve his skating skills and jumping right in. He didn't enjoy himself at Southside today because he was intimidated by older skaters whipping around him. No one was unkind, but the facility was crowded with experienced older skaters who were doing there thing, and little guys were just in the way. The graciousness of veteran skaters I've witnessed at other skateparks was lacking at our visit here today. We were obviously not experienced regulars and there was no room for that at Southside today. If you are a teen or adult male, experienced skateboarder who smokes, likes profanity in his music, and wants a place free of kids and families, this is the place for you. We won't be back. Cons: adults smoking and drinking in the parking lot, loud obscenity-filled music piped into the facility, dismissive culture towards younger, learning skaters Pros: $10 fee to skate all day, indoor great for inclement weather, big bowls, ramps and street course in good condition read more
