Warning for Parents Considering WGCS As a parent, I feel compelled to share my experience with WGCS…read morein the hope that it helps others make an informed decision. From my perspective, the leadership at the school, particularly the owner, Kyle Boyd, demonstrated a style that felt rigid and, at times, difficult to work with. I felt that communication lacked transparency, and it seemed to me that decisions were often made without considering the well-being of the students and their families. My child entered WGCS as a mild-mannered, enthusiastic student. However, during our time there, I noticed significant changes in his demeanor that concerned me. I also had questions about the academic curriculum. Despite the school's claims of offering an advanced curriculum, in my opinion, it did not meet South Carolina's academic standards. I observed that extra credit was frequently used to raise students' grades, which left me concerned about the consistency and rigor of grading practices. Also, I felt as if communications between teachers and parents were lacking or non-existent; especially in Math. Athletics were another point of concern. While the school promotes its commitment to offering several athletic programs, in my experience, there was no on-site gymnasium, and the off-site facility used did not feel particularly safe or appropriate for school sports (and it is across town). Additionally, I found the handling of my son's attempt to play public school sports troubling. I felt that WGCS staff misrepresented facts in a way that ultimately harmed his opportunity. Thank GOD for AAU sports, which more than prepared him to play next year. What the devil meant for evil, GOD turned it around for his good! Spiritually and culturally, I had hoped for a community that uplifted and embraced Christian values such as honesty, fairness, and love. Unfortunately, I did not feel that those values were consistently demonstrated here. As a parent of a minority child, I also observed what I perceived as a lack of inclusion, particularly in how students were recognized during school awards. In our time at the school, I did not see any minority student receive certain awards that are meant to reflect strong Christian character. It's very difficult for me to write this, and I waited until the end of the school year to do so because I did not want my son to face any retaliation. Due to our negative experience, I cannot recommend WGCS until serious meaningful changes are made.

If you don't already know, turning your newborn over to another adult is the ultimate definition of trust. The level of care, warmth, communication and support from the teachers, Bobby Exizian and Pat Greene (Directors) were something we will forever be grateful for. Walking in each day with my son became a joy as he loved the staff and his teachers. Top of the line childcare like Smartkids is hard to find and I can't overstate how much it is worth to know your child is such a great hands.

The teachers were caring, communication was strong, and the leadership team was responsive whenever concerns arose. Unfortunately, after the transition to Learning Jungle, our experience changed significantly. Over time, we experienced frequent turnover among teachers, directors, and assistant directors. In one of my child's classroom alone, there were nearly ten teacher changes during our time there. The lack of consistency made it difficult for children and parents alike, and communication became increasingly inconsistent. My child has documented food allergies, and there were multiple occasions when she was given food she was allergic to despite having an emergency action plan on file and it was not always followed. This was very concerning as a parent. The event that ultimately led us to leave occurred when my child reported being hurt at school by a teacher. I contacted DSS, and both DSS and Learning Jungle later confirmed that video footage showed two staff members physically mishandling my child. While that was upsetting on its own, I was equally disappointed by the response from leadership. My concerns were raised not only with the center director but also with regional and corporate leadership. I did not feel my questions were adequately addressed, and I left those conversations without confidence that my concerns were being taken seriously. There are still some caring teachers at this center, and I appreciate those who positively impacted my child's life. However, based on our experience with staff turnover, leadership instability, allergy-related concerns, and the handling of a serious safety issue, I cannot recommend this facility. I encourage parents to review publicly available reports and conduct their own research before enrolling their child.
