Warning for Parents Considering WGCS As a parent, I feel compelled to share my experience with WGCS in the hope that it helps others make an informed decision. From my perspective, the leadership at the school, particularly the owner, Kyle Boyd, demonstrated a style that felt rigid and, at times, difficult to work with. I felt that communication lacked transparency, and it seemed to me that decisions were often made without considering the well-being of the students and their families. My child entered WGCS as a mild-mannered, enthusiastic student. However, during our time there, I noticed significant changes in his demeanor that concerned me. I also had questions about the academic curriculum. Despite the school's claims of offering an advanced curriculum, in my opinion, it did not meet South Carolina's academic standards. I observed that extra credit was frequently used to raise students' grades, which left me concerned about the consistency and rigor of grading practices. Also, I felt as if communications between teachers and parents were lacking or non-existent; especially in Math. Athletics were another point of concern. While the school promotes its commitment to offering several athletic programs, in my experience, there was no on-site gymnasium, and the off-site facility used did not feel particularly safe or appropriate for school sports (and it is across town). Additionally, I found the handling of my son's attempt to play public school sports troubling. I felt that WGCS staff misrepresented facts in a way that ultimately harmed his opportunity. Thank GOD for AAU sports, which more than prepared him to play next year. What the devil meant for evil, GOD turned it around for his good! Spiritually and culturally, I had hoped for a community that uplifted and embraced Christian values such as honesty, fairness, and love. Unfortunately, I did not feel that those values were consistently demonstrated here. As a parent of a minority child, I also observed what I perceived as a lack of inclusion, particularly in how students were recognized during school awards. In our time at the school, I did not see any minority student receive certain awards that are meant to reflect strong Christian character. It's very difficult for me to write this, and I waited until the end of the school year to do so because I did not want my son to face any retaliation. Due to our negative experience, I cannot recommend WGCS until serious meaningful changes are made. read more

My children attend wgcs when the Boyds first started the school. My children attended for 2 awful years. Never again. I witness the staff and teachers ridiculing the students on a every day basis. The staff had no confidence in their teachers and the teachers had no trust for the students. They broke my childrens spirit and crushed their relationship with God. I removed them from Wgcs. Enrolled them in a Christian School down in Lake Wylie. What a change in their attitude, relationship with Christ and their attitude towards learning again. Much happier and eager to learn. Both kids graduated at the top of their class. What a difference the change made for my kids. Some advice for the parents that are thinking about enrolling your kids there. Beware of our mistake with Wgcs. Remember God is good. read more

We were given an ultimatum for our child to leave back in August of 23 beginning of school year, after 1.5 years there. Supposedly the rude secretary in the front said my wife used a tone (when she would use one with us), and then the same lady tried to get involved in an email with our child and was spreading rumors, etc. I get a call from the Principal on a Monday at 1206pm saying our child leaves today and sign a paper or he is expelled forever. Also our kid had straight As for 22 -23. We had no warning, no nothing. The Principal even went to our Church. Just embarrassing, and they clearly broke their contract as we had NO idea there was an issue. I was just told he didn't think we could move forward and he wouldn't let us sit down or talk or anything. We are not the type of parents to over react, and Boyd runs this thing as a regime. It's really sad. I should have heeded the warnings and known it would be disastrous. He even sent an email put to everyone in 2022 saying his 4th grade son made the 5th grade and up team. This was ridiculous. Clearly it should never have happened from a rules and physical standpoint. When our kid started in Feb of 22' I should have known, as our son is adopted and they made him take more incoming tests than the average student to make sure he could handle the work load. The problem is, now our kid is in Fort Mill schools and it's so much tougher. He is doing well, but Walnut Grove has had a long history of not getting getting children prepared. Ask them what their teacher and student turnover is too..it's astronomical. Just a very very poor experience. Plus, they refuse to refund our thousands saying I signed a form when our kid left and released him, I didn't. Thankfully we are getting advice on how to proceed. Just a horrible experience and unfortunately a school that I would have a very hard time as deeming Christian. The kids who go there are usually the outcasts of a public system. We wanted a Christian education. So so sad it went the way it did. We even sought Christian advice at the church we both went to, and the Pastor there very much said that the Boyd's run it as a regime and they should absolutely refund us and we handled it well. It's just really sad. I could be so much more negative but I'll hold back. read more

Walnut Grove Christian school has been an enormous blessing to our entire family! I have an elementary and high school student that both attend the school. The class sizes are small and their teachers have the opportunity to really get to know the students individually. Both of my children feel safe, loved and look forward to school each day. read more

Our daughter has been attending Walnut Grove since kindergarten, now in the 2nd grade. It is by far the best decision and investment in her education that we have ever made. The classroom sizes are small and I know that she is in a Christian based setting ( although not all the families that attend are Christian and that is ok) We are and we love that this Christian foundation follows her into her school environment. she is receiving and listening to biblical truth daily!! I know that there is no perfect school setting however I do know and it is evident that this school administration and teachers do love the kids, do love the Lord and that as a mother gives me peace each day as I send her off to school in the morning, thank you WGCS for all you do! read more

While my child never attended I can tell you my experience with Mr.Boyd. After letting him know that my son has an IEP and that we were looking for a smaller class setting and more individualized instruction we were invited to take a tour. To be fair, we were told upfront that they didn't have any resources for special needs children. They have no guidance counselor on staff and no therapists. I was okay with that. I felt strongly that being in the small setting would work well for my son. Off on the tour we went. It is a very small school, with a small play area outside, a small lunch room and small classrooms. They don't use any technology (except white boards), they put cell phones in a lock box with everyone else's cell phones every morning. That didn't deter me though. I asked Mr Boyd about the teacher turn over rate, he said that while he has many teachers who have been with him for a long time (and don't worry they aren't "just moms") he admitted to not paying them well. When I asked Mr.Boyd about the schools bullying policy he explained "the word bullying is overused and most times it's not even bullying. Kids make fun of each other that's what they do. We will step in and take care of it, if needed". This is where I questioned if this would be the right fit for my children. Mr. Boyd explained that his wife would do an assessment on my son to see where he stood academically. After the tour, he explained he needed school records, teacher recommendations, and behavior sheets. Then we could apply. After a few days (after I sent a follow up email) I heard from the admissions coordinator, Ashley. Mr Boyd had Ashley call me to tell that after reading my sons IEP they don't think this school would be a good fit. (Thank GOD) But the part that baffled me was, you made this decision without waiting for the rest of the paperwork. So, per the usual, a person is judging my child based on his diagnosis and a piece of paper. Judge not, lest ye be judged. (not surprised!) He didn't even give us the grace of contacting us directly after meeting us! He wouldn't even give my son an assessment or wait for the follow up paperwork. He never met my child or asked about his accomplishments. He based his decision on an outdated IEP. That's okay though, the school is not the right fit for our family on many different levels. The icing to this cake was they would happily still accept an application for my daughter to attend this school. So, in short, Mr. Boyd does not accept any child with an IEP or with any learning disabilities. That's ok though, because if you have a sibling who is "normal" they'll take him/her. My son and daughter have attended this school and I have good things to say about it for sure. I love the schedule (no school on Fridays). The teachers very caring and good at their jobs. Both of my children like to go to school. The other kids are well behaved and respectful. The drama program is AMAZING. It's a huge stand out at the school for sure. I appreciate the religious instruction. I am thankful to have a school like this in Fort Mill. read more

Walnut Grove is like a second home to me. The staff is always ready to talk about anything serious that you're willing to open up about and I've made my best friends there. I graduated 2022 and have been back since, missing the atmosphere. I've struggled with math my whole life but going here really got me to be more confident with it and my teacher, Mrs. Boyd, was there with understanding when I needed the material explained again and again. I recommend this school to whoever wants a good, Christian education and relationships that will last. Chapel on Thursdays was also a great addition to my weeks there! read more

Worst school ever! There's not that much diversity in the school so all the black kids are treated different! The principal acts "nice" to the parents but it's different when you go to the school and your a student! Mr.Boyd's wife and kids are rude and they will lie on you also the teachers are rude I was at this school for 6 years and it was hell I would never send my kids here read more

I have been teaching at WGCS and my 4 children attending the school since the post I made above... 3 years ago. I love the school, the staff, the students. My kids have never been happier. My oldest graduated from WGCS and now attends Duke University where she maintains a straight A average!! I lead a mission trip every year for high school and almost half the high school goes!! My rising 10th grader has been attending WGCS since the 8th grade. The staff is serious about education, Christian character, promoting fun, learning & goal setting. There is room for leaders to emerge & an "open door policy " with the headmaster & staff for an issues that may arise. Small class sizes. Sports for all ability levels. read more

Our Grandaughter has attended Walnut Grove Christian School since Kindergarten. There has not been a time when we felt she wasn't being loved on, nurtured and encouraged in both curriculum and her Spiritual walk. She has developed caring and loving relationships with the students and they genuinely care about each other. Each morning they have "Morning Meeting" where they are allowed to share something that is special to them or a family event or trip. This has always made her feel so special and unique. Each student is given the most effective methods of learning and growing to "Strive for More!" We are looking forward to many more years at WGCS! read more

Our oldest girl began attending WGCS in 2013 and she's about to start her fifth year there, and her little sister is ready to begin her third year there. They both LOVE the school - students, teachers, activities, all of it. Being in a smaller setting is nice, too, for those students put off by larger classes or who have trouble concentrating in bigger groups. And we as parents love knowing our girls are in such a nurturing and caring environment that's small enough that their needs are not overlooked, but big enough to provide them a quality education. read more
