I drove from Charlotte because I had a negative experience at my LNS here. I had some questions and was hoping to match some of my Granny's threads and just learn more about my new hobby. For those who are new, you know it can be really intimidating walking into an LNS. I walked in on a Saturday and was greeted by two friendly ladies both who were so helpful. I worked with one lady on threads and she helped me kit a canvas I brought in. She also answered my questions and made me feel welcomed and valued. Which is important, because some stores (not this one) have this vibe that comes across as rude and if you are new you aren't welcomed. Also if you don't look a certain way and come in like a needlepoint expert (truly it's a harsh community to try to fit into) if you know, you know! This store is worth the drive and I left feeling closer to my Granny and more excited about my new hobby. Thank you for such a friendly experience. The prices of canvas and materials were honestly on point and a better quality and price point than Charlotte and the experience was worth the drive. They offer 3 colors of paint with the plaster (which seems a bit cheap), but they were flexible with that rule and also gave the kids extra paint if they needed. First let me get this point out of the way: a lot of the items in here will cost you a pretty penny, but this is because each piece truly is a work of art. The store is owned/run? by four women who weave and one woman who does a mix of crafts including painting silks and dying other fabrics. There is a wide assortment of fashion items to purchase - jackets, shawls, hats, scarfs, bags, children clothing, jewelery - and a small variety of pottery scattered throughout the store. You really need to just check it out in person to see the great craftsmanship of the items. The saleswoman, who is also one of the artists, was quite nice and even tried to help us find items that might work for my mom. It was so wonderful getting to look at all of the items in this store, I just wish I had a big stack of cash to buy everything. I would like to point out though that not everything is very pricey, just many of the things I was eyeing!

They suggested we come check out this art center. I'm so glad they did! You walk into GreenHill and see gallery rooms and children's art exhibit through the center hall. Walk past the info desk til you come to the studio. They have books and a fun art installation after passing through the first room. Keep walking and they have markers and colored pencils and paper to draw. In the back they have an easel wall - string and clips with color paper to paint. There were tables for clay and one attendant was setting out mirrors for the kids to do self portraits. All this was free when we went On Fridays they have story time and art for a nominal cost. Check their website for more information. I don't know all the things here :)
