Sushi Wayko - Tuna sitting in water

It is a few years since I have eaten here and it has changed hands. Service was very slow and the waitress was eating during service, after we had asked for water. My Seafood Yaki Udon was very disappointing, with only 2 shrimps, 2 small scallops and 4 pieces of squid! Don't try this!

My pet peeve at sushi bars is not being able to order from and interact with the chef. The whole reason for sitting at the bar is the interactive experience. The salmon and yellowtail were very good. The sea bass was fishy. The tuna was pre sliced instead of cut fresh, which isn't the worse thing but it was also very wet. That's when I saw it sitting in water, soaking it up. When I ordered a scallop and crab hand roll (not on the menu) they just about vapor locked. They had to call it a California roll with added scallop and no avocado. It was almost humorous watching them talk about it in the back. Like it was the craziest thing ever. The service was excellent and they did want to please, but they should do some research and visit a couple places in London, like Sushi Atelier. If I come again I would try the truffle ribeye beef. It looked amazing as it was going to another table.

Sushi Nara - Dolsot Bihimbop was deemed "delicious". Restaurant does both Korean and Japanese fare.

After hoofing around in search of a dinner joint I returned to Sushi Nara, one of the first places…read moreI'd seen. Staines didn't appear to have a great selection of restaurants but with Sushi Nara being as satisfying as it proved to be, they need not. A pleasantly generic decor gave no hint of the diversity of Sushi Nara's menu, not in Japanese cuisine as expected, but in a full-range of Korean fare as well. And because I didn't find the UK brimming with a great array of sushi (salmon and tuna seem to comprise 98% of the offerings), the Korean offerings were a welcome treat. The next question, as I'm suspect of places specializing in multiple cuisines, was: How good would that Korean fare (or Japanese fare) actually be? Good, quite good. The Nara Bento (£16.90) was a nice array of food: filling, fresh tasting, as varied as it needed to be, and well-presented. The Beef Dolsot Bibimbap (£9.50) and Kimchi (£2.20) were equally satisfying. I'd likely look askance were I to find a restaurant back home (San Francisco Bay Area) trading in both Japanese and Korean fare but here in Staines they pulled it off with mastery. If they opened up a second outpost in my neighborhood I'd be there.

Just had a speedy lunch here. Food was good, we had quite a mix. Couple of Bento boxes with meat…read moreand salmon, and a plate of mixed Salmon sushi. Would come back again.
