You are also just a few minutes walking from the forest trails as well as I really loved the location mostly because it was close enough to walk everywhere, but on a side street so you got no traffic noise or high hotel costs. As for the actual hotel it was nice, clean, and the staff was very nice and friendly. The room I had was for one easily big enough for 2, included a buffet breakfast and only cost 750 czk (the equivalent of about 30 USD) a night even on weekends! The room had a balcony, a tv, wifi (that was fast and excellent), fridge, double bed, desk, chair, nightstand and large wardrobe. It was a very comfy setup. The staff was remarkably nice. They lent me all kinds of things while I was there ( a cloth bag for my things, a special mug for drinking the thermal water), addressed me by name, allowed me to check in early (and waived the fee), held my baggage when I left, showed me around the hotel where everything was, answered all my questions about the area without annoyance and even recommended great food places nearby. Would recommend this hotel to single travelers, couples or budget travelers for an excellent, cheap place to stay. Great service, great experience!

Rooms aren't new but they are clean and good basic business style hotel. Beds are very firm. Ceiling was vaulted with double skylight which was cool -just watch your head if you are tall. Not sure if it's truly 4 star but it worth putting on your list if in the area.

It also appears in the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale as Hotel Splendide in Montenegro. It has been cited as inspiration for the Grand Budapest Hotel in the movie of the same name. So this landmark, being as beautiful as it is from the outside had very reasonable rates (I checked online for a future visit)...on a good day, regular rooms can be had for about $150/night. Not bad for the hotel that hosts the annual Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

This hotel has the most charming architecture, and the restaurant is not gourmet by any means but is definitely wholesome, healthy, and regional! Everything is made from scratch! Think nourishing borscht, hearty wheat breads studded with seeds and nuts, meat and dumplings in gravy, homemade kefir, and Central European-type salads incorporating root vegetables. On the top floor they have a medical clinic, which was always bustling -- guests show up in their (provided) robes and slippers, and get Balneology treatments such as pneumoacupuncture, Parafango, oxygen, and this thing where they wrap your body in a large plastic bag and inflate it with carbon dioxide. Downstairs they have a so-called day spa but it is not the best -- there is no jacuzzi, but there is a sauna, steam room, Kneipp path, and salt room. Of course you have to explore every inch of Karlovy Vary to imbibe all its salubrious qualities and this spot is your PERFECT home base.
