1/5 Stars - Highly Disappointing Experience…read more My experience with Vera Children's Academy was deeply disappointing for both me and my child. For anyone considering this facility, please know that despite the name, it is a regular daycare disguised as a learning academy but in reality there is no learning going on just a regular unprofessional daycare The financial burden here is outrageous, especially given the poor quality of care. A recurring issue we faced was their illness policy and unfair billing. I would send my daughter to daycare on a Wednesday, she would catch something from another child, and by Thursday, they would call me to come pick her up because she was sick. She would then have to miss the following day. Despite not being allowed to leave my child there, they still charged me full price for her attendance. This happened on multiple occasions, to the point where I was paying for far more days than my daughter was actually able to attend. Even more concerning than the cost was the lack of supervision and safety. There was an incident where my child came home with claw marks all over her arms. When I brought this to the teacher's attention, nobody on staff was aware of her injuries, nor had anyone called to let us know something had happened. A week later, she came home with the exact same injuries to her arms. It wasn't until I made a major issue out of it that I was finally able to request to speak to the director, who promised an investigation. Having two separate instances where my child came home injured without a single phone call or incident report made is completely unacceptable. I was finally so fed up with the lack of communication, safety, and fairness that I unenrolled my kid. I would not recommend Vera Children's Academy to any parent looking for a safe and reliable environment for their child.

I can not say enough about his experience, attention to safety, professionalism and skill. He was their biggest cheerleader when they succeeded and their most patient motivator when they stumbled. I can not believe how hard he worked for the two hour lesson, never tiring and always giving constructive advice and encouraging tips. My daughter and her friend are both true surfers now! No one wants to do these courses--it means you've gotten a citation while driving, and of course…read morethat means paying a fine or going to court. If you choose to pay the fine, then doing this school will keep your insurance company from raising your already astronomical rates even more. It will take you four hours...there's no short cut. But it's rather painless, and in fact you'll actually learn a few things that you either forgot or never saw from such a logical perspective. BTW, for $10 more you can watch a video. I opted for the cheaper written course, and took photos with my phone in case I needed help on the test. As it turns out the course was so well written that simply reading the material easily prepared me for the section quizzes as well as the 40 question final. This thing pays for itself. Your fine is apparently reduced by about what you paid for the school. This is a no lose proposition. While there are other schools out there, this is the cheapest and it's well done. Enjoy?

Tom…read morehas the technical SUP and surfing skills, and the credentials (National Champion SUP Surfer) to instill confidence in his students. Tom's teaching and communication skills are excellent, as is his patience with beginners. I like his emphasis on safety, especially with entering and exiting the rough surf. I was so happy with the lessons that I signed up my wife and daughter for lessons also.

I saw Tom's ad a few days before a trip to Cocoa Beach, Fl last week and decided to give an SUP…read morelesson a try. I had no idea what to expect as I knew nothing about Tom other than what the ad said. Any skepticism was quickly diminished! I had a fabulous lesson in the Thousand Islands area of Cocoa Beach. Tom is a gifted instructor who was able to cover safety issues and some of the basics before we ventured into the water. He had me on the board and trying to get my "sea legs" in no time. Tom gave helpful tips throughout the lesson, was encouraging, and always kept a watchful eye giving pointers as necessary. The scenery was great as we saw dolphins and osprey during our session. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience including the great relaxed conversation we had throughout our time together. I am 57 years old and had never tried this but always wanted to. So very glad I did. My wife and two daughters have expressed interest in trying SUP. I was so thrilled about my experience with Tom that I am already planning a family outing with him when we get back to the area in December. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed. He really knows his stuff.
