Instead of supporting a small independent maker, they chose to add unnecessary stress and costs during a critical period. The "creative community" they advertise is a façade -- it's a corporate environment run by people who have no real understanding of artists or small-scale manufacturing. If you're an artist, designer, or small business owner considering ActiveSpace, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. The people managing this property have no idea how to foster a supportive environment. They treat creators like liabilities, not the reason their buildings stay alive. While I ended up renting a space at the Raleigh location in 2017, Betsy was always available to help me, as the managers for the last 9 years at Raleigh have been GOD AWFUL. I love this location and my studio, but always wished Betsy could be our manager. Lo and behold, my wish recently came true!! I am THRILLED to have such a consistent, hardworking, dedicated, personable, kind, amazing manager who goes ABOVE AND BEYOND. For the first time since 2017, the Raleigh building is actually functioning the way it should! Many managers have come and gone and have been absolute shite. But Betsy? A bonafide ROCKSTAR!!! This woman deserves a raise, promotion, AND bonus for how she's gotten this property back into shape. For the first time in almost 10 years as a tenant, I feel taken care of and safe here. She is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and the reason I'm choosing to continue renting here. This woman is GOLD and needs to be protected at all costs!! Day passes: $35 for the day, $25 for half-day Very nice space, with the usual co-working amenities (free coffee, tea, water, wifi), numerous power outlets, and modern interior decor with some nice unique touches, like fresh flower bouquets on some tables, an abundance of natural light everywhere, and a coffee station on the first floor even though the kitchen is on the second floor. The general area is not as large as their Pearl District location. There's two kitchens, with refrigerators for use by everyone to store things. There's indoor bicycle storage(!) which is available to day pass users as well. If you get one of the dedicated office spaces on the second or third floor, the views are quite lovely. The only issues that makes this 3.5 stars for general members and day pass users involve the fishbowl effect of the space and the ergonomics of the chairs. Most of the open areas for general members/day pass users are very visible to the outside, with floor-to-ceiling windows. There's a somewhat more secluded space in the back with space for maybe eight people. This would make me nervous if I were doing work that was more private or if I was worried about leaving my stuff in the open to go to the bathroom, etc., the front door is unlocked and opens directly into the general member areas. Granted, the front desk person is there most of the time, but it's still a bit concerning for me. The second thing is for my back--the chairs in the general member/day pass areas are not ergonomic/adjustable office chairs, so it becomes difficult to work all day in them. In the very least, something adjustable height and even a lumbar pillow I can borrow from the front desk would be lovely. I was here briefly during their first week in operation, so there are some very minor glitches here and there, like not having those black little stirring things for tea/coffee, only half-and-half as the dairy option for your coffee/tea, and so on, but nothing that seems like an issue that will persist as they refine their space. Having lived in several tech hub cities, the co-working spaces I'm used to tend to have a high-tech focus with minimal decor. openHAUS wasn't like that at all but I really appreciated the difference. There's a lot of interesting art dotted throughout and it's got a lived-in feel with many in-progress projects out in the open. There are desks claimed and occupied by the stuff of regulars, but besides that you get your choice of a place to settle for the day. There's clean bathrooms nearby and a kitchen stocked with coffee and tea, and even ramen if you really didn't want to step out for food. I heard there was a dedicated parking lot though it wasn't obvious, but street parking was easy enough. I'm glad I tried this place and would come back. I was able to take calls and attend work meetings just fine out of here, and I was able to pop out for lunch and come back without worrying about my stuff getting touched. Finally, I was also a little surprised that someone came with their dog, a big boxer looking one, but it was generally well behaved and didn't come around again after getting to sniff me in the butt.

Ben goes above and beyond to ensure the properties are secure and taken care of. I have rented two different units at two different properties. After buying my first home unexpectedly, (the day after getting preapproved), I gave 30 days notice I would be moving out. We paid the entire early term fee that same day. Upon doing so we were told if a tenant was found that amount of time would be sent back to us in between our move out date and the date the new tenant took possession of the unit. Upon receiving our check we were informed they didn't "have to give us anything back" when we asked about the remaining funds owed to equal the "half back" we were told we would receive at the live final walk through. We received 1/3 of the total, and 30% less than was even brought to our attention in the first place (I am not a property manager so I dont think to ask that). Ensure you keep detailed records when dealing with this company as they try to exhaust their way through the process and have little to no understanding of customer service and thoroughly comprehending what is being stated the first time around. Not to mention when signing our first lease with them our original unit was given away after we had signed for it, paid, and completed paperwork, should've known. Rent from anyone else if you would like to be treated fairly, especially after being a long term, quiet, and on time tenant.
