My friend just so happened to be with me, and the cashier proceeded to ask for my friend's age identification - despite the alcohol not even being for him! In the end he had to go all the way home and get his ID just so I could buy a cheeky pack o' Strongbow that wasn't even for me either lol. Next up, picture this. It's the night of the last ever episode of Game of Thrones and man's in need of some urgent snackage to optimise the viewing. So man realises the time is 11:58pm and so fully legs it to Central Stores (supposedly open 'til 12am) in search of said snackage. So man arrives, takes a cheeky glance at his watch, and sees the time is still 11:58pm - what can I say; man's fast - but to man's utter astonishment the sliding doors do not pertain to his wishes and remain solidly shut. Anyway long story short they closed early. Unbelievable. Other than that pretty good shop, cheap Diet Coke 10/10 would go again.

Because of this, item prices are around 10-30% more than you would expect. But these profits are put straight back into the union. That said, its a great shop with sandwiches, drinks, snacks, meats and dairy products. Its an off-license too, so it is great for grabbing a bit of alcohol for a party or nights-in. The convenience is the major plus of this shop! A lot of students wouldn't survive without it!!!

I didn't quite understand and then one day, I saw it. Just a few yards from my dorm room. It is like a liquor, supermarket and wal-mart all condensed into a compact corner convenient store. The only thing was that they couldn't quite understand me when I asked for 'aluminum foil' because you have to say 'aluminium.' When I would run out of vodka, luncheon meat, gravy granules, tea and crumpets, frozen pizzas for 99 pence, or even fried chicken to get me through the cold, grueling days of studying, this Spar came to the rescue, everytime. I only have fond memories of this lifesaver. Oh yea, and they have instant ramen and siracha sauce too! What a relief!

This often means that I walk from the other end of campus just to get a particular brand or item that I can't buy in the nearer LUSU shop (aka Central Stores). My partner's card payment at the self-checkout didn't go through because of a system glitch, but we thought it had as there was no alarm and no barrier stopping us. As soon as we were told, we went back in and paid the £44 immediately. Instead of handling it calmly, the Scottish security guard stopped us outside in front of everyone, speaking harshly and making us feel like criminals. It was humiliating and completely unnecessary, especially since we had already resolved the issue. For context: I work at an accounting firm and my partner is an NHS hospital audiologist -- we certainly don't need £44 of Asda shopping, and in five years of coming here we've never had a problem. Asda should train their staff to treat customers with respect, not embarrassment.

They do a fine range of deals and I always manage to pick something up on BOGOF And the cafe is great. Waits for tables and food can be long but that's because, for the price, it's worth hanging around.
