Tian-Jin Temple - Taiwanese Sausage (TJ Fest)

Tian-Jin Temple

This review pertains more to the annual TJ Festival but also some comments about the temple itself…read more I've been to the Temple multiple times in the past. They're a Taoist temple tucked away in a Burnaby neighborhood. The community consists of largely Taiwanese people. What i always liked about the temple is that they're not overly pushy for people who aren't believers of Taoism. Whenever I go, I'd take a packet (free) of the blessed rice (raw) home. It was my first time at the Festival and i was pleasantly surprised. As mentioned above, the temple population is mostly Taiwanese people. However, a lot of the stands and vendors consisted of local organizations. This tells me that the Temple has done a great job of establishing their community presence. There were quite a lot of vendors, and tailored to different age groups, community and interests. There was definitely something for everyone. There was also a live band stage. I would definitely come back again next year.

Been coming here for years and prices are still often too high for what it is. Hidden gems at a…read moregood price is still occasionally to be had here but they're far in between, it's a very common problem they won't admit to or has an excuse for. And as usual, they still play favourites with customers for no real reason and won't admit to it.... ‍ Also, lost count on how often the employees (usually the assistant manager), clearly don't have as much experience with customer service. I've seen worse but some is still really lacking. PS. Make sure you keep your eyes on your items. Had someone took something right from under me when I was looking at something for not even a 5 second. After I realized it, I tried to confront the guy myself but walked away after I realized he won't admit his wrong doing and might gotten the police involved if I continued. When I brought it up to security, they admitted they won't do anything about it. Granted, their safety is a priority but what is the point of having a security guard when you had an issue that is borderline theft and nobody will help you in this regards? This is the kind of store you guys are supporting here, folks.... Employees that might not want to right a wrong or help you if hits the fan unless if you're butt is injured and is a clear liability.

She tried to prevent me from leaving so I very loudly told her so everyone in the store heard me no you do not get to search me, call the manager check the cameras if the manager says I took something ill call the cops, and they can search because they're not gonna find anything! Never used to have problems in your store! Is this how you treat disabled people both customers and disabled employees too?

I had a medical emergency a couple of months ago and was warded here for close to a month. From…read moreemergency to ICU and to the regular ward, it has been quite an experience. I've never been admitted to a hospital from birth till now. I found out nurses were not trained to do the IV needle thing, they learned on the job. So my arms still have hard bumps where the needles didn't go in correctly at the emergency ward and those bumps were water retention or edema. R said my arm was so swollen he had to question the nurses what happened and they immediately removed it. The doctors said they should be gone soon but it has been several weeks now. The ICU nurses and care aides were wonderful. Cheerful and kind. The regular ward nurses were hit and miss in the care. Some were really caring and dedicated, some couldn't be bothered and treat you like it was a big hardship to ask them for help. The doctors do come round very often everyday to check on me. Same with the physio and occupational therapist. They came everyday except Sunday to do rehab with me. I had to do a lot of tests and the hospital staff are generally very patient and kind. I also had to go to another hospital for a test/procedure and a nurse escorted me there and back. My experience with the healthcare system (from calling 911 for the ambulance) to the emergency and to discharge is positive. Not the horror story I read about in the news. The ambulance came within minutes and my wait in emergency was under half an hour. I think my condition was really bad and close to dying so the triage worked. I am super thankful to the team of healthcare personnel who worked tirelessly to make sure I am ok. I opted for outpatient rehab and they are located inside the Optimization Centre. It is still a long journey to full or 90% recovery, they estimated about a year, so I guess I'll still be visiting the hospital for rehab frequently until I'm given the all clear. There is a cafeteria here with Starbucks coffee. The breakfast sandwich is terrible. The hospital food is also bad/unappetizing. The sandwich and wrap are ok. There is also an area where you can borrow or leave books.
