Rudest person I have encountered in a while. Bought a Groupon they would NOT honor. It was a $100 value, and I needed some help with my furnace. They said it was a maintenance voucher and could not be used for work. I inquired about the price and when I learned that the price was higher than others, I told them I was inclined to go somewhere else where it was little cheaper. Buyer beware! I decided to test the waters out with this company for a simple yearly furnace cleaning and tune up on my 7 year old hi-end unit 3 weeks ago. The HVAC tech provided me with a receipt that included a quote for a new $570 motor that should be replaced ASAP. I gave this company an invitation to save face after installing a new boiler in my home on 11/02/17. They failed. I was told that I would receive a call the next day to see how the system was operating - no call. The weekend passed and there was no heat in my living room and there was a small drip from the piping. After numerous calls for service I finally see a technician on 11/09/17 and was told that there would be another $200 charge to fix the problem - which was the removal of two zone valves that were not necessary ( I was never advised of that fact). After paying $5900 for the boiler with the assurance that the price included everything I find this very unprofessional and unethical. I also do not expect a return call after my proposal that they do the repair pro bono in order to keep my business. I cannot recommend this company. On 11/16/2017, I had a technician from Isaac stop in (with no service charge) and give me the information that was needed to repair the shoddy work done by Sparks and fixed it myself for $59 in about 10 minutes. He advised me that Sparks was once with the Isaac team but were fired. Let my mistake be a warning to all. read more

I scheduled an appointment with a time range of 9am-1pm however no one showed up. When I called to inquire, I left a message and received no response. I received a call at 5:30 pm from a service technician saying he was on the way to my house however I was at work. When I got home from work the following morning, there was a Sparks Monroe sticker on my door. I called as soon as they opened the following day and they said they were aware no one had arrived at the promised time due to no-heat emergencies. Though I was unhappy, I understood as the weather had been terrible, but they said they would call me back with a reschedule time ASAP. Several hours later, I received a call from a service technician who was at my front door wondering where I was. I explained that no one from his company had called to reschedule so I didn't know he was coming. I asked him to wait 15 minutes so I could leave work and come let him in. He hesitated and had to call his supervisor but did end up waiting. Just when I thought everything was fine......it got worse. I told him I selected Sparks Monroe because I had a $40 off service coupon but because I didn't print it, he wouldn't honor it, even after speaking to his supervisor because it's company policy to have it printed. I explained how they had already delivered poor customer service but I was still charged full price, despite showing him the coupon online and offering to email or text it for proof (my printer was not working). Now, I sit here writing this review, still waiting for them to call me back to let me know if they will honor the coupon. When he called to see where they were they said "something else came up," and because he was using a Groupon he wasn't a "real customer" and had last priority. They are the worst company to deal with. I would not recommend them at all. I made an appointment with them for a chimney cleaning and they charged me and extra $43 when they got here because I have an insert, I said fine. Well all the "kid" did was open the door and look inside. That was worth $43 extra?? NO I said well aren't you going to pull it out and clean all the creosote out? He said no, it will burn off. Well, the first time I went to burn a fire all I got was smoke (Into the house). So, I called them several times, never returned my call, it wasn't until I saw the owner at my work and I told him the story that they finally called me back to make an appointment. Well, the day before the second appointment I called to ask them if they could possibly make me closer to the 12 (of my 12-5 window) as I had to be at work at 5. They called and left me a message that they had to cancel my appointment and they never called back again. Go with someone else more reputable, and reliable. NEVER again will I call them. read more

This business receives zero stars. I purchased a groupon for a chimney sweep in November of 2014. We placed many calls to schedule an appointment and all appointments were missed. It is now August of 2015 and they are refusing to honor their service. I spoke with the owner and he hung up on me several times and went as far as to call my place of business to report me for using the business phone for personal issues. I am the manager/ controller. Are you kidding me? This business is less than reputable. Check the Better Business Bureau site. They have had many complaints registered. Check out the Yelp reviews as well. Took a chance because they offered a groupon for a chimney sweep. They did the initial cleaning and provided me with a quote for some additional work. I decided to go ahead & schedule them because their prices were reasonable and I had no issues with their initial job. They have since canceled on me at the last minute 3 different times! Two of the appointments I had to take off work because it was during the week. No apologies or discounts offered and they stated they had bigger more important jobs to do. Unacceptable! I hired Sparks Monroe to install a pool liner in 2010. The liner is too large (about twelve inches) and all wrinkled. The cement work was horrible. Sparks Monroe admits there is an issue. I opened my schedule to them to correct the issue. I can not even get them to return my phone calls. I then contacted the BBB to help resolve the problem. The case has been closed as Unresolved. Horrible service cancelled first two times because of an "emergency" I wasn't home when the chimney was supposedly cleaned. First time the fire was lit plastic smell consumed the house. Chimney was never cleaned!! Chimney cap not secure correctly. Was just gonna right it off as a bad company not to use again but now the cap which was a lifetime guarantee is sideways about to come off and the nasty Secretary said I should have called earlier and that wind or rain could have done that to the cap. This is my second time using them, first time a few years back it was great so I thought we'd give it another try. They NO-SHOWED to 3 scheduled appointments with no apology, only calling days later to reschedule. Rarely pick up the phone, even more rarely return calls left with their answering service. Bought a groupon in November, scheduled for January and they called to say their truck broke down the day of and would have to reschedule, ok things happen. So rescheduled, took off work and this time no one showed up or called to let me know. I called once around 2pm just to confirm they were going to show up this time and their answering service said since they were due between 12-4 to wait til closer to 4 and if no word call back. Quarter to 4 and no word so I called back and they said someone from the company would be in contact soon or call back. 45 minutes later I called back to find they had picked up their messages and should be calling soon, 5 days later I've still not gotten a call regarding my appointment. Not only did they not show up, they did not even call. After calling them to see what happened, they rescheduled me for that afternoon. Again they did not show up or call. Upon calling them the next day I was told they had a big job and wanted to reschedule for Dec. 24. Against my better judgement I agreed. Terrible experience! Contracted them to replace furnace. They did not show up at specified time. Called 1, 2 and 3 hour mark and was told all three times they were on there way. Obviously a lie. Manager called back 30 minutes after last conversation saying they were not going to make it. offered me a discount and free cleaning coupon for inconvenience after I complained about misleading me and I threatened to take business else where. Next day furnace was installed. Crew was very good, cleaned up pretty well and answered all my questions. Called office to send me receipt, payment plan and coupon. Never received. Called back 4 times, was told each time that the info would be sent. Took six months and only after more complaining and threatening to withhold payment. While they were slightly cheaper than other installers, not worth the aggravation. read more

Then they gave my husband the run around and eventually yelled "you're fired" before hanging up on my husband. Horrible! I scheduled a chimney sweep with them and was told they only schedule for morning or afternoon appointment blocks. So I scheduled an afternoon appointment and had to take a half day off from work to wait for them to show up. They never showed up. I called an hour before the end of the appointment time block to make sure there wasn't a problem and I was told I would have to just wait until 5pm and then call back if no one showed up. Well, it turns out the person giving me this information was their answering service, not the actual office. They never identified that they weren't the actual office. I called the next day and actually spoke to a woman at the office. She said she didn't know why they didn't show up and that she is the only person that works in the office and she had not been at work on the day of my scheduled appointment. There was no apology, no explanation and I was told they still wouldn't be able to schedule a specific time for the appointment because that was inconvenient for them. read more

I purchased a furnace/air conditioner in early 2014. My pregnant wife and 2 year old son were home on Sunday in October and started the furnaces or the first time of the season. I came home in the afternoon to an overwhelming gas odor. I called RG&E, the local gas company, to discover the furnace was not vented properly and turned the hot water exhaust into an intake. RG&E came out and red tagged the equipment due to the issue. Sparks was supposed to come out on Monday morning. I called at 10:30am and they said I would be called back. I called again at 2:30 with no success and again at 4. Someone finally showed up around 5pm. He said it needed to be reverted and turned the water heater all the way up on high even though it was red tagged and said it was fine. As long as the furnace remained off. He also said that the service charge or $89 for coming out would be waived because it was a result of the equipment being installed incorrectly. He and the receptionist were to be calling me first thing Tuesday morning. Tuesday I called at 11am after not receiving a call and was told sorry someone will call for appointment. I had to call again at 2pm to be answered by an answering service. I called again at 5pm and someone finally called at 5:45 leaving a message which I returned and quickly and was told sorry again and he would be sure to follow up at 9am with the office manager on Wednesday to remedy the situation. I went back and listened to the voice mail he had left and during the message he thought he had hung up but did not and he was using obscenities on my voicemail. Upon not receiving a call again on Wednesday I called at 11am and asked for an appointment immediately and to have the owner call. An appointment was scheduled for Thursday at noon keep in mind my furnace and water heater were turned off on Sunday. They tried to tell me they wouldn't be able to do the service till the following week. I had to be adamant that it needed to be done now. I also asked for the owner to call me so I could discuss the customer service issues and the voicemail. He never returned any of my calls. The technicians came out Thursday and looked and did the work saying I would only be charged for a new water vent which would be $200. When they were done and I went to do the bill I saw my bank account was charged for the $89 service call from Monday and I asked to have it deducted from the total like the service technician and the receptionist had previously stated. He said he had to go to call the office to confirm. When he came back he stated the owner (who still hasn't returned my calls and said because he left sick) said now he had to charge the service fee, labor and for the exhaust vent which went to $550 now. If I didn't pay he and the other technician were going to have to remove all of the equipment. To say the least I was dumfounded. He also said that he thought this was ridiculous and was very apologetic and felt bad that he had to talk to me and not the owner. He had never seen anything like this. I was never rude or irrational when I rightfully should have been up to this point. After talking with the receptionist for 15 minutes nothing was resolved and my account was charged so I could have heat and hot water again. I called on Monday Feb 20 with a no heat call. David came down and started working on my furnace. It was very apparent the 20 + year old furnace had seen better days. He called my husband down and showed him all the rust and other issues. There was no fixing it. David gave us many options and price ranges. We signed the contract and buy Wednesday he had a new furnace in. He was very clean neat and polite. read more

I used this company to do a masonry/chimney repair job. It is my recommendation that you do not use this company. This company was very good about coming to my house in a timely fashion to provide a quote and come to my house to "repair" my chimney after an agreed upon price. I noticed that there were problems with the chimney repair when I finally got up onto my room to clean out my gutters a few weeks later. The flashing around the chimney was not sealed and water could still leak around the flashing. The patch job on the masonry repair was sketchy and the fact that I found moss growing (moss doesn't grow very fast) on some of the joints from under the paint meant that the workers didn't scrape and test all of the joints that may have needed to be repaired or re-jointed. I called the company to get them to come fix this job (Nov. 2015). I couldn't reach the office manager (keep this key important sentence in mind....it will be a recurring theme) and it was some time before she got back in touch with me to schedule someone to come out and look at the chimney to discuss with me the problematic nature of their repair job. When I finally made contact with the office manager, we made arrangements for someone to come look at my chimney (this did not occur until the end of December 2015. I'm certain that they make it a point to make appointments for first time customers who are paying customers (I already paid and they already had my money). On the date of the scheduled visit by the representative of this company, they give you a five hour window of their arrival. I stayed home during that time to make sure I was here to meet with them. No one showed up and no one had the decency to call to let me know they were not coming. I called to complain about this service and the office assistant that answered my calls did not know anything about it and said I needed to speak with the office manager (have I mentioned that it has been nearly impossible to get in touch with the office manager...she says that she is in the office from 8 AM to 3:30 PM, but oddly the office assistant would tell me it would be best to contact her between 8 - 11 AM because she often left the office after the office assistant arrived around 11 or 12). Since I was on vacation I decided to show up to the office first thing in the morning. The office manager was in the office. She apologized and said that she didn't know that the representatives didn't show up and said she didn't know that they didn't call to let me know they weren't coming. She said, "I'm sorry, that sucks. I will make sure that your next scheduled appointment is a priority." The representatives were no shows for the next appointment also - no call either. Then, I scheduled several other appointments only to have the office manager call to leave a message that they couldn't arrive on that day. She stated that other people have heating emergencies and that is the reason they couldn't show up. I find it hard to believe that there were heating emergencies that prevented a person from showing up to my house and spending 15 minutes to look at the problem with me to identify an appropriate course of action - ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS!! I made several requests to speak to the owner. I was told that I could not reach him directly and that she (the office manager) would pass along my request to him. To this day, I still have not received a phone call from the owner despite several other requests. After several other failed appointments and a filed complaint with the Better Business Bureau the office manager asked me if I had pictures (something I told her I had way back in December when I arrived at her office in person). She asked me to send them to her via email and from those photos it was determined what they needed to have done. Several appointments were scheduled and canceled. Some of them were canceled because of legitimate reasons revolving around the weather. Perhaps the most irritating of the cancelled appointments was one scheduled for the beginning of March, 2016. The weather report showed that on Friday, March 4th, it would be very cold (below freezing), but no precipitation and not much wind. I called on the day before to inquire as to whether the temperature would be a factor and if we should reschedule. The office manager said she spoke with the owner and they have a compound they add to the masonry mix that would prevent freezing and cracking in cold temperatures and that it wouldn't be a problem. The next morning we received a voice mail stating that they had to cancel because of the weather. It was sunny, no wind, my 3 year old children played outside in the sunshine that day....but the weather prevented this company from coming to repair my chimney. The office manager didn't return my call for over a week to confirm a new date. When she did, she couldn't remember why they canceled. This company is not dependable! read more

While doing that work it was discovered that a new flue and crown were needed, and those two items were installed. Shortly after the work was completed water began to leak down the living room wall above the fireplace causing the paint to bubble. Since I did not have a leak in the roof or around the chimney before the work was done, I contacted the Company. The office manager took the information and said that the owner of company would get back in touch about my concern. I contacted them on several occasions over the period of a month because no one returned my call. The problem with my wall continued to worsen on the wall, in the fireplace and on floor. Finally, after insisting that someone address this issue, the owner of the company came out to assess the situation. He appeared to be agitated and was confrontational about being contacted. He offered a few suggestions about what the problem might be but, to my knowledge he did not go on the roof to assess it. He appeared to get more agitated as my concern about the damage in the house and his lack of attention to my calls were discussed. He then left abruptly and offered no assistance for helping solve the issue. At first, I thought that the owners son from this company did a good job, but as time went on I realized that I was mistaken. The water leak has caused much damage in the house, damage that was not there before this Sparks Monroe Company was involved. Sparks Monroe Heating & Chimney 2014 Ridge Rd. The system was old but within its expected lifespan. After they "maintained/serviced" it, I had to replace it. A remarkable coincidence but as it turns out, they deliberately damaged my system which required me to replace it. Of course they denied any responsibility. read more

I bought a Groupon to have my furnace cleaned and made an appointment for September 26. You are required to be available for a half day window. I agreed to noon to 5 p.m.. At 1 o'clock I called just to confirm the appointment and was told oh we don't have you on the calendar today. She looked and said she wrote it on October 26. I said well I have it as today and I already took half a day off of work can you send someone? She said we will try to get someone there, I'll call you back. After two hours no one called. I called again, she said yes we're going to try to have someone there by 5. At 430 I called and was told again that someone would come shortly. no one came and no one called. It took three more appointments over the course of a month to get someone there. They did not show up for even one scheduled appointment. I had to call over and over, then they showed up on a day when I didn't have an appointment. When they finally did show up the service person told me I had a gas leak and quoted me a price to fix it. Then when he did fix it, it was actually a higher price. he also said he would get a filter for the furnace and never brought one and didn't replace the metal filters that I had cleaned because he didn't do it. I don't know if these people are good at their job or not but I was very unhappy. They just seem incapable of scheduling appointments and showing up on time. Stay away from these crooks. Our furnace was working fine, but it had been a few years since we had it inspected, so we made the mistake of calling Sparks Monroe when we got their coupon in the mail. The so-called technician banged around in our basement for a few minutes and then told us that we needed to replace the inducer motor ASAP. This would cost us more than $500 for the part plus labor. (I searched for the part online and couldn't find anything priced more than $150 at retail, so that should give you an idea of their pricing.) This sounded suspicious to me so I called a much more reputable HVAC company to inspect the same unit, and sure enough, they confirmed that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the inducer motor. This sleazy Sparks con man also slapped a large sticker on the furnace which reads "installed by Sparks Monroe," which of course is not true, and he slapped another copy of the same ridiculous sticker on the air duct in an attempt to cover their competitor's phone number. This also completely covered up over the maintenance log which we had been using to keep track of repairs since the unit was installed in 2005. But Mr. Sticker Vandal didn't stop there... he stuck a THIRD copy of the same obnoxious sticker on our water heater which he was not even there to inspect and which he had no authority to even mess with. Do you know what it says on these three stickers? "100% customer satisfaction is our #1 priority." But that is another blatant lie, since they did not even respond to my complaints. Learn from my mistake and avoid Sparks at all costs. There are plenty of other more qualified and honest businesses in the area. read more

Initially Sparks was very helpful when my furnace died in the middle of the winter of 2017. They came late at night and found out I needed a new furnace. They came the next day and installed a new furnace. That was all fine. We were satisfied with their heating work so we though they would have them repoint our chimney, fix a crack in the crown, and spray it with a protective coating that would prevent water from getting in. This was my wife and my first house and never had a chimney where we lived before. We never really realized the horrible job they did with the chimney (they got concrete all over the brick) This was in April. By November the repointing they did was all coming out and cracking. I had to call several times to just to get a response from Andrea. Then I sent them pictures which I have included in this post. They agreed honor the warranty and fix the chimney. After they agreed I had to call them for a week to get another response and they said they would not be able to do it because the weather is too cold or wet and we will call you when the weather breaks. Fast forward to May, I get a call from Andrea and we schedule an appointment for May 30 for 9 am. I take the day off of work. 9 o'clock rolls around, no one to be seen. I wait until 10:30 and I call their "number," it is a call center where they only can page and send a message to Andrea. She calls back an hour later and an explains that her, "chimney guy" has been on AC emergencies since 6 am. She asks when can we reschedule and I explain I took the day off and they need to honor their warranty work. She then says it might be too hot for her guys to do it in the afternoon and she doesn't know if they will be done with the AC Emergencies in time to actually do it today. She then say, "You can call me back when you figure out a time you can reschedule." Then she hung up. She hung up on me. I was so angry that I didn't call back for an hour. Once again, I got the call center. I called several more times that day. No response. Then I called again then next day. No response. Then that night I submitted a request on their website and said I would take them to small claims court if they do not respond. I got a call the next day (Andrea had some "family emergency"). They rescheduled the appointment for three weeks later. That day rolls around and a half hour before they were suppose to arrive and I get a phone call saying that they cannot make it because their "chimney guy," had a death in the family. I reschedule the appointment for the next week. June 28th rolls around. No one comes by 10 am, I call, leave message with the call center. I hear nothing by 1pm. I call again. I get the call center. Repeat this process on the hour until 4 pm when I am told by the call center the office closes at 3:30. I told the call center that if I do not hear back from them, I will be taking them to small claims court. It is now July 6th and I still have yet to hear anything from Sparks. I plan to file in small claims court next week. read more

The WORST company ever. I set an appointment 6 weeks in advance, they no showed, when I called to ask why and reschedule, I was given a new day and then hung up on. Then, after the 2nd no show, I called again... they offered me service for free and set a third appointment. NO SHOW AGAIN!!
