Since it is an hour out of Myrtle Beach and on the side of the road that is easily accessible if you are heading westbound, I think this is kind of an "oh crap, I forgot to get a souvenir for grandma" type of stop. And this is the last place to do that if you are headed home from the beach. The food looked a little greasy. The poor hermit crabs looked pitiful trapped in the cage all crawling on top of each other. Everything here needs a good refresh. I stop there every year when I'm going to Mrytle Beach, it has amazing workers who are nice and helpful. The only downside is the beach prices, before you're at the beach. Interesting visit. After seeing a million billboard signs advertising this place, I had to satisfy my curiosity and see it for myself. The place is huge inside, and like many have already said, everything is ridiculously expensive. Still, it was fun to look. A lot of goodies such as their variety of pecans and homemade canned products were very interesting to me since I haven't yet got to experience much of these southern goodies before. A friendly staff member noticed me oogling at all the goodies so she offered me a big tray of samples to try of many of their different styles of pecans. I made a pig out of myself and tried about 10 different ones. All of them were delicious and fresh. I went ahead and bought an overpriced bag of Cinnamon & Spice Pecans and a jar of pumpkin butter. I never knew there was such a thing as pumpkin butter, so of course I had to buy a jar. Next was the Fireworks section. Like many typical guys, I was in paradise checking out all of the different explosive devices. I didn't see anything like M5000s, like in Mexico, but it was fun looking at all of the variety packages they had ready to burn away hard earned money. I couldn't get over the various 6' huge variety boxes each costing over $1,500. Yes, an effective but fun way, to burn money. One disappointment though was when I got home, I opened the bag of Cinnamon & Spice Pecans, and they tasted nothing like the samples I enjoyed. The best way to explain the taste is to imagine them being 20+ years past their expiration date. They were very stale and hard. I guess it's because most of the over priced bags of pecans remained sitting on their shelves for a long time due to them being expensive? More likely though, I was just unlucky and got a bad bag. The pumpkin butter though tasted very fresh like it was just made. I'm glad I bought a jar. I'd stop in again if passing through. Yes it's overpriced but it's a nice way of stretching the legs if passing through. read more

Billboards line the interstate for miles-- Sparky's Clean Restrooms. It's a tactic to get you in the door. The restrooms had a line out the door because there were very few stalls, lines at urinals, trash on the floor, and gross toilets. The gift shop however, is massive and filled with Myrtle Beach souvenirs. They have shirts, magnets, decor, and frames. Sadly, they also sell items such as shells, preserved alligator heads, and shark babies in a jar. I was greatly disappointed by this overrun truck stop. read more

Went in to see what all the hype was about, decided to grab a quick bite! My corn dog was good decent amount of fries when ordered, although.. my boyfriend can not eat sesame seeds they were on his $11.00 brisket sandwich he went up to ask for a bottom bun as he can NOT have seeds they said they'd have to charge him 2.00 for another bun! How about specify sesame seed bun? The staff was not friendly.. four pack of sodas was $12. Their candy was overpriced. Just like most of the souvenirs in there. I won't be back.. Accommodating a customer is normally the common goal.. But, wanting $13.00 for a mediocre brisket sandwich is insane! My family and I were headed out to Palm Coast Florida and while on the road we stopped at Sparky's which is located in Marion, SC. It would be my second time in the place and I am surprised that I didn't Yelp it the first time but here we are now. To say that this place is difficult to explain would be an understatement. It's one of those stores that seems to have just about everything under the sun for the curious traveller. You want snacks, they got it. You want sharks teeth, they got it. You want fireworks, they got them. You get the picture right? It's actually really cool and I was more impressed on the amount of restraint that I had since some of these things were cool. They do have hot food and ice cream and an array of clothes in one large section of the store and while I didn't detect any open WiFi, they did have bathrooms which is always a plus at a side of the road kind of business. The price range is very varied here since there are so many different kinds of items. The next time I am there I will likely grab a shirt that has their logo on it since that would be fun for concert and convention adventures. If you're close enough to visit I encourage you to do so, I don't think you will regret the stop because you can even come home with a hermit crab because they have those as well. read more

Cool place that has everything from fireworks to hot sauce and a little bit of everything in between. I have a fondness for these offbeat markets that litter America's highways like glitter and stardust. They are often gloriously tacky and loaded with stuff you really don't need, probably wouldn't buy anywhere else, but that buying it at places like this make abshperfect sense. I myself walked out with a bag full of hot sauces and a locally made barbecue sauce. Hey, at that moment, it made perfect sense (in an absolutely kind of way). If you find yourself approaching here (and you can tell by the signs that are regularly placed to entice you), by all means stop in. They're trying to skirt and avoid any transaction fees from Visa and other platform, passing them onto the customer directly instead of absorbing the modest fees like every other gas station in the world. This place is really cool. It's literally right on Highway 501. Be careful when you are turning in and out or enter an exit through the gas station area. First thing you will notice is it's wooden everywhere and when you walk through the place the floors creek giving it a Old-time country vibe. If you forgot to get souvenirs at the beach, they've got it here and it's just as expensive. Yeah it's a tourist trap but you're a tourist on vacation and probably already spent an absurd amount of money so why not just enjoy it for what it is. They do serve food here, but I haven't tried it so I can't comment. I prefer it to Buc-ee's if you have already been there because it is not as crowded. The only thing other than the parking situation that is a real pain in the butt is that every department has its own checkout counter. Sparky is the place to stop when you are traveling to Myrtle Beach. It's filled with all types of STUFF. I never seen a hermit crab so I was excited when I saw the cage filled with them, they don't look real until you touch one! UGH!!! The candy, pecan and native to South Carolina is massive. I purchase the pecans which are expensive but they are fresh. Expect to spend at least $10 on the pecans. They have the SUPER FIREWORKS store!!! It's mind blowing. They even have a little cafe area with ice cream and different foods. My only complaint that took away from the experience was the staff. A lot of mean people Meanness: At the food counter a really mean older lady yelling and being disrespectful to younger much nicer coworker. Not just a little mean actively going out of her way to be ugly to coworkers and guest. Somebody at the gas pump was having problems and was asking for help. The lady in the store said what do you want me to do. And other rude comments after she cut the mic or maybe not after she cut the mic. You expect to pay more but really over the top prices at store. Their goal is to sale little at a high profit margin. They sale peanuts but if you can't get the lid on they charge extra. They are way overcharging for a little cup then not letting you pile them on. It only cost them a few pennies to let you add more. Very unpleasant experience, the worst of the south. I mean I got $2.99 last week, 50 cents cheaper than everywhere else in SC -Huge convenience store. Now let me say that this and the other location featured on Yelp, I think is the same spot, but my phone would not allow me to check in at the other one, so I tried this one and it worked! Harley Davidson boots for under $100. WTF! Really. Somebody please pinch a sistah because I must be in a sweet dream! We both so much stuff that we had to repack the trunk and one of us didn't want the man riding with us to know she bought some shoes, so she threw her old shoes in my purse and wore her HD Boots home....My kind of girl! Stop in based on a suggestion from my parents to check out the place. I and my husband where traveling back home from Myrtle Beach and still needed to pick up a few souvenirs for some friends and family. I must say the selection of items they carry is impressive (even though they didn't have exactly what I was looking for) I didn't leave empty handed. Downfall was there were several staff members behind counters not really doing much of anything and the bathrooms were filthy/stinky and out of supplies..(toilet paper.. soap.. paper towels). A decent little stop on the road to (or from) Myrtle Beach. Situated on Highway 501, the main road to or from the Myrtle Beach area, Sparkys is a relic of another era. It feels like a roadside attraction from 50 years ago. It's a combination gas station, diner, and very elaborate gift shop (fireworks stand, local foods vendor, various touristy souvenirs like T-shirts and knives and magnets and mugs and such. You can't miss it. The building is bright yellow, and there are signs for miles in each direction. The food at the diner is adequate, it's total greasy spoon chow. Rather authentic to being rural South Carolina. They indeed have a very nice display of fireworks, if you want to load up on things that go boom, you can definitely do it there. Gas prices are okay, no complaints about their fuel service. They've got a decent display of souvenirs and tourist items beyond that. Local items like boiled peanuts and fudge, to lots of T-shirts, knives, magnets, mugs, basically a really well stocked gift shop. If you are leaving Myrtle Beach and didn't pick up enough tchochkes on the way out, this is your chance to grab some on the way out as the last stop. However, they know they are the last stop and don't have a lot of competition, so expect to pay a little more than you'd pay at just about any other place around the area. read more

So really this store completely dominates the billboard scene in both directions for mile after mile. The girlfriend and I couldn't pass it up even though we were in a big hurry to get somewhere. There is plenty of parking and when you walk in there is crap everywhere! There is some method to the madness inside. Clothes in one area, swords in another. In the very back there was a food store with preserves and nuts. My girlfriend got a free sample of a chocolate covered pecan and said it was fantastic. The prices for the crap were high. Much higher than similar junk that is sold at the beach. I guess if you are leaving Myrtle Beach and forgot somebody on your list of people to get junk for this would be an ok stop. Went here looking for pecans and came out with $80 worth of fireworks. The prices were great I bought fireworks 99 Cents each, the lady selling the fireworks was very nice , I also had a cup of pralines pecan ice cream i think that's how is call :) for $2.99 it was delicious. The people inside were nice and helpful. I didn't use the bathroom so i can't say anything on that. We enjoyed all the billboards along highway 501 that were advertising the place as if it was the Taj Mahal of South Carolina or at least the Wall Drug of the South. We soon learned how they paid for all that advertising! They had about every touristy item you could think of, but prices were about double what I would pay. Bathrooms were questionable and my wife reports "fortunately my daughter was in there too because my stall had no toilet paper". 5 stalls in the women's room and only 2 had paper!! We stopped for lunch and I'm glad we did. It's a giant treasure trove for tourists. The food was very good especially the hot dogs, pulled pork and corn dogs. Simple fare at a great price. The ice cream was delicious too and many flavors to choose from. The store sells fireworks, shells (great prices), and kitschy souvenirs. They also have a nice selection of flavored pecans.
