It was fairly full on a Tuesday for lunch so we had to sit by the front door. The menu is fairly simple and includes specialty sandwiches, salads and soups, a couple desserts and not much else. For as large as this space is, you would think they would serve more food items. Maybe their kitchen is just very small, not sure. The server indicated many of their sandwiches are steamed. I tried one of their sandwiches, the casa grande without olives, with a side (potato salad) and a homemade banana pudding. Sandwich - this is a pretty good sandwich that is moist due to the steaming and a lot of mustard and mayo. They also forgot to take off the olives though. Potato salad - their version is like a German potato salad with some skin showing and plenty of mustard as the base. The problem was it was too chunky with a chunk of potato the size of my fist. This is just too big to bite. Banana pudding - pretty good but very sweet My colleague's sandwich was decent too, but he also had a problem with some soggy bread. The service was decent as both our soft drinks were refilled promptly. Mondays amd Tuesdays are semi slow and they close at 3; however, other days are much busier with live music mostly on Fridays and occasional Saturdays.

Built somewhere around 1828 for…read morea Dr. Alexander Williams Mitchell, the mansion has both 'Jeffersonian' and 'Palladian' design. It is definitely not like some of the plantation houses you see on 'Gone With The Wind' but it is still a handsome home made with hand-made brick, original wood floors and marble fireplaces. It has been under restoration for some time now as it sat empty for 30 years. Vandals had taken much of its original stair risers and marble mantel pieces as well. Over $335,000 has been spent so far to restore it to its former splendor. I came with my mom today as it was their annual 'Old Time' Christmas party, where volunteers and historians dress up in clothing of the 1860's. There were many women in hoop skirts walking around, eager to tell us the history of the place. I have read it was haunted by the family who bought the place from Dr. Mitchell, The Winston's. The husband, Isaac, died here in 1863 and his wife Catherine died here 20 years later. Upon looking at the picture I took of her portrait, I found an orb to the right of the painting. I didn't use a flash and no one was around me at the time. But the strangest experience happened soon after my arrival in the entrance salon. There was a large Christmas tree standing over in the corner, festooned with original, antique Christmas ornaments. One of the volunteers was explaining how a Mrs. Burke made these ornaments by hand. Just as she mentioned her name, an Christmas ball fell from the tree and rolled to within an inch of where I was standing. :Hello Mrs. Burke!" I said. FOr $6.00 per person, we got an in depth tour, wonderful refreshments, a choral group singing carols, musicians and ballroom dancing! I also reacquainted myself with the curator/guide from Helen Keller's home, Elizabeth Hargrove. She remembered our visit this past April! I rarely complain about a service company, but I feel I need to share my experience with MPE…read moreServices--an experience that still haunts me like an unfriendly ghost. I had used MPE for years to service my HVAC unit, and during a routine annual maintenance request, my system was working perfectly. Not a hiccup, not a rattle--just smooth, quiet air like a well-behaved appliance should be. I was told annual servicing helps keep the warranty active, so I scheduled it. They quoted me a price, then offered a discounted combined price for an additional year of service, which I prepaid. Easy, right? Oh, if only. When they arrived, they informed me they found a faulty fan. This was news to me, considering the fan was working just fine before they touched it. But okay--I agreed. The part was under warranty, and I paid the labor and service fee. After replacing the fan, the unit immediately began making a much louder noise--like it suddenly decided to audition for a metal band--and then the entire system quit working. Dead. Silent. Except for my wallet about to cry softly in the background. I called them back, and after a second look, they said I now needed a new valve part... a very expensive valve. They also "adjusted" the fan to reduce the noise, which was kind of like putting a band-aid on a broken leg: appreciated, but not useful. So, to recap: they serviced my perfectly good unit, and I ended up with a broken unit, a big repair estimate, or the option to buy a brand-new system from them. Amazing upsell strategy, if nothing else. At this point, I'd had enough and called another company. These new folks discovered that someone had pinched a wiring harness when the side cover was opened and closed--basically creating problems out of thin air. They also told me the fan was installed improperly and incorrectly adjusted. As in... the fix needed fixing. They got it working again, though at a significant cost. At this point, all I wanted was distance between me and MPE--preferably several zip codes' worth. But of course, the saga wasn't over. This week MPE called, cheerfully wanting to schedule the next prepaid maintenance visit. I explained everything that happened. They seemed entirely unfazed, as if I had just told them my favorite color instead of detailing the HVAC equivalent of a horror movie. I asked for my money back for the prepaid service, and they refused. So, here I am, sharing my little HVAC adventure so no one else has to go through the same chain of chaos these folks put me through. If my story saves even one functioning fan from a tragic fate, it will have been worth it.

They sat in their van an hour and 15 minutes and billed us for that, they waited until we came home from work instead of billing us through the mail like most local plumbing companies do. I will never use this company ever again. UPDATE: the work they did only lasted one winter season, the same pipes leaked again after winter so the expensive flex PVC did not solve the problem, so the upsell was not worth it.
