What makes this organization different, in my view, is the "quality of care" and follow-through provided by ALL staff members; front desk, medical assistant, primary doctor/provider. Average at best. I switched providers because my previous provider requested every possible test under the sun. Staff is friendly. I've had to make multiple trips here though because they forgot to request lab work that should have been done the previous time. So of course more visits more copays. I can no longer use this provider which sucks, because I can literally walk over and *some* of the practitioners are great, but the billing has been a nightmare since roughly my second appointment 2 years ago. Questions would go unanswered for MONTHS. I was billed for a test *they* administered where an insufficient sample was collected and had to argue with them for several weeks to have it corrected. On top of that, unnecessary tests were often tacked on where there was no reasoning to repeat them so frequently. I recently went in for an annual physical that is 100% covered by my insurance company, but I'm out $400 in Labcorp fees for add-ons. The most annoying one was a metabolic panel that I had performed about 5 months prior. My insurance company explained that was an annual benefit and could not see a reason to run the same test again in such a short period. Worse, if I had it done literally days later, it would have been covered. I'm still under 40 and not a terminal lèpre, but my Labcorp bills say otherwise. If you have to go to this office, ask for the bare minimum unless you're, like, an employee of the state with some golden BCBS plan. It feels like I was receiving medical care at a used car dealership. I just wish there was more transparency. Literally EACH visit resulted in wild lab fees. How does a doctor's office know they accept a specific plan and not know what's covered? I would honestly try calling my provider after a visit while walking over to the lab to see if they could confirm coverage, but there was rarely an opportunity to get a direct answer in the short stroll. On top of that, Labcorp would argue about codes used and they would constantly blame each other. Each visit would be a financial Russian roulette. Bye, spectrum, at least I won't have to worry about my blood pressure when I open my mail going forward. read more

Providers are rude and lacking in both empathy and listening skills. If you're looking for a provider that listens and includes the patient in treatment planning, I would recommend going to RSG for primary care services. Have been seeing Dr. Vanig and staff for a decade. Aside from some revolving door staff issues in the past, they have a new practice director, and he runs a tight ship! Very professional people all the way around now. The doctors abruptly terminated my care without warning, & w/o writing additional scripts for my vital HIV medication. I'm not sure what service everyone else is getting. Albert lied, set my appt wrong, told me to look my own insurance up because it's not his job. Then it was tough to get a hold of. The second lady was RUDE and VERY UNCOUTH. She could give a crap less about me as a person and is just putting information (that I wasn't told I was going to need) in a system and gets impatient when I don't have it because, uh...YOU DIDN'T LET ME KNOW BEFOREHAND. At this point, I repeatedly tried to cancel, couldn't get a human being to speak with me. The line was always straight to VM. Finally, "Letty," or whatever her name is, called me to confirm my appt. I'm like, "Didn't you get any of my messages? I'm trying to cancel." Her reply. Ok. You're canceled. *click*. At this point, I called her back because I don't like being hung up on. I tried to speak with a supervisor........straight to VM...what a shock. I called another line, got a human, now to the "Practice Manager's" VM. I'm sure I won't get a callback. Since 2007 was always treated by DR Thanes Vanig or NP Judith Bergman at SM. I was then assigned Dr. D Earlier this year was having Severe Shoulder Pain. He referred me to CORE Institute. I had a Miss W, NP at CORE, did a preliminary X-ray which she insisted showed a torn Rotator Cuff. This wasn't my first X-Ray, as Dr. Seetos (a previous Orthopedic Surgeon) told me a previous MRI showed Inoperable & shoulder replacement only. Dr. Seetos overcharged Cigna for medical care never given, and ultimately NO treatment Plan. Dr D at SM was sent Rehab notes NOTHING put in my Medical Records. I went to 4 months PT Rehab notes sent back NOTHING entered. I was Diagnosed with Severe Shingles, and I Was having a bad reaction to Gabapentin. I was ignored for my concerns of taking Gabapentin and I was told me it was my Depression. I was in my house for 3 days knocked out. My Roommate discovered me eyes rolling back in head, I could NOT walk Straight, with Very Slurred speech. All of this documented by Abrazo Heart Hospital ER. When I told him I was still in pain, Dr. D at SM reminded me from my last SM visit, 'I said was getting better'. It listed the exact date and time. It was and is now going on 10 weeks of pain Shingles Rash reappearing. He did not believe me; I guess he knows when a person feels pain. I needed a Thoracic & Cervical MRI. Because of his lack of medical notation, I was DENIED Cervical MRI. Since the weekend, I have only slept 3 hours in 2 1/2 days due to constant burning pain of Shingles. I had to request all Rehab Notes from Banner and American Physical Medicine. I called the Supervisor at Spectrum (SM), Still waiting for callback. Because of his lack of noting (the who, what, where, of what was done to me). It cost me another 8 days to get the Radiobiology Department to resubmit. waiting for approval. I need so they can do Epidural Injections. Also, when I complained to him about my arm being numb, I requested in person and through Portal. I have screenshots past communique. He replied as long as Cigna still paying PT I would continue even though it was doing NO good. First off, he reprimanded me about leaving 3 messages with L MA who used to be J. Bergman's assistant. I said I would NOT have left so many BUT with no REPLY and are in Pain. A pain he thought I was Making up. Also, Extreme Fatigue is a major side effect, it said to contact your doctor. I know the difference between Clinical Depression and a drug interaction. So did the ER. Plus, I do NOT appreciate being scolded like I was a Child at SM which his Supervisor did also. She has yet to contact me. Also, Cancer runs in my family No Prostate exam had been performed for 3 1/2 years. My new Infectious Disease Doctor has already done one & will do a swabbing that Dr V always did. I have been going to SM since 2007 and ONLY had a problem when Dr. D was hired. Plus, the New management stated I left too many Portal messages. If I would have gotten a simple acknowledgement that they are working on it. When you are pain and NO ONE responds, what would you think? A lot of friends of mine used to go to DR Vanig or J Bergman No longer go to Spectrum Medical. My psychiatrist wanted to know what Dr. D used to determine I was suffering from Depression. Which I was NOT. I guess if my MEDICAL records were properly updated. Dr. D would have known that I was hospitalized for Severe Anxiety a few years back. I have had Group Therapy before, I know what Clinical Depression is. Some of these people whom I met were suffering crying all day or some could not even brush their teeth. I was going to go elsewhere and I guess it took almost going into a Coma and because I would wake up and take my 600mg 3 x's (AS I WAS DIRECTED) Gabapentin, I was knocked out and Severely Dehydrated. I required three bags of Fluid. I did not expect to be talked down to and I am sure anybody reading this knows their own body and can tell when something is wrong or not right. I had to request my medical records 3 times. I hope they have been received. Spectrum USED to be a VERY good place to go. I must REMEMBER NOTHING LASTS forever. Especially quality of care. . Also, I think I am a Little too old to be Scolded. A simple acknowledgement of my request and I would know that someone is taking care of it The head Emergency Room Doctor suggested a Very Good Infectious Disease Doctor. The last Time I talked to the Supervisor she said MAYBE I am NOT a good fit with any of the new Doctors. I treat everyone with Respect. I expect the same from the Doctor. The ER Staff was very Helpful and Friendly. I agree with the reviews that the Quality of Care Has gone down at SM especially in the last year. A few of my friends and myself always saw the exceptional Dr V or J Bergman, I was in EXCELLENT hands then. I wish Dr V did not have to cutback on his hours. HE is SORELY missed. Everyone was nice so that was a positive but the front office and billing department do seem to lack knowledge of how the insurance process works. The lack of communication along with the incompetence certainly made it clear why this is a low rated clinic. I was told twice before coming in that my insurance was in network. When I received my bill it was billed as OON. Tried calling several times but I never received a call back. I do not recommend this medical office. Surprised by the lack of ratings and lower ratings. I have been a patient here for over a year or two. The waiting area is clean, well lit, and plenty of seating. The wait times are not your typical doctor visits. I find they adhere to their schedules better than most. Yes there can be delays, but nothing crazy. The doctors are respectful, friendly, and caring. I have never had issues getting appointments, refills, etc... The patient portal is easy to use and pay bills. I had a 9:30 appt and sat in the waiting room as people arrived announcing their appt times which were after mine. Oddly, they all were taken back to rooms while I continued to sit in the waiting area. I was finally taken back to a room where I sat for another 30 minutes with nobody checking in to let me know there was a delay or some other issue. I finally gave up after 50 minutes and left without being seen. Healthcare providers are so rude as to assume their time is more valuable than that of their patients. I will never allow any healthcare provider to treat me with such disregard. I would suggest searching for alternatives to this disorganized office and the constant staff turn-over. read more

BEWARE!!! STAY FAR AWAY!!! I would give no stars if that was possible! They have been horrible with a life threatening experience that their practitioner Kate put me in. She prescribed me a medication that I should not have because of an underlying chronic illness. This was something I did not know about beforehand. But, I trusted my practitioner with my health and care. Needless to say the medication led me being rushed to the emergency room with my life at risk. When talking to the ER doctors they were shocked my provider put me on this medication. After this situation I contacted Spectrum and it was all downhill from there. The office staff never relayed messages, managers and the administrators are hard to get ahold of and no one returns calls or knows what is going on. When asking to file a complaint the Manager of Customer Service didn't even know how to process it. This situation happened in June and I'm still dealing with the repercussions of this medically, financially and emotionally. I had to open investigation with the state health department and the medical board. I have not received an apology from Kate and still have not heard from any of the higher ups from Spectrum after calling multiple times, leaving VMs, and sending them emails. Malpractice insurance has reached out for an investigation and offered an amount that wouldn't even cover my medical expenses from a situation their practitioner put me in, and then they said with their offer they would excuse me from their care. This was a huge slap on the face to me when they put my life in danger to where I almost died, taking no responsibility, and not issuing a sincere apology. Much less the follow through from the office staff and management. It got to the point they were screening their calls for my number and had to use other phone numbers to get follow-ups/answers and then they even blocked my email to send in the complaint that they asked me to send in after figuring out the patient compliant form after weeks of asking for one. I AM TELLING YOU, FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR PATIENTS CARE OR FOLLOW UP! read more

The one on one attention I receive from this clinic is amazing. The providers share patients but I have never received bad service. I actually look forward to coming to all my schedule follow ups. Dr. Vanig and his team really take the time to get to know what's going on and provide the best course of action from there. I've been coming here for about 5 years now and I have never considered leaving. It sucks that other people have had such negative experiences. It's awful. But I've also never been late to an appointment, thank goodness. Even if I was and they had to reschedule, I would understand. This is such a busy office and even five minutes late to an appointment can push everything back. That's just how things are. Don't be late. And it you can't help it due to reasons outside your control, then don't be upset when they can't see you. Call ahead to see if it's okay to still come in or if you need to reschedule. Getting upset over your own error is just unreasonable. This place is great and I love coming here. read more

I have gone here for many years and even recommended the practice to many friends. However, in the last few years, they have gone downhill. First, their billing department does not know how to code or bill, sending bills out several months late and blaming the computer system. Second, when you call and speak to someone in billing, you get a voicemail and no return calls. Now it is a lack of communication, not responding to your questions in their so-called health portal, to having appointments before the practice opens. Now they have a 5 minute grace period for an appointment and will not budge for a mistake that was not mine. If they are open earlier, say that on your door - door and online still says open at 830a, even on their phone recording as well. So I ended up submitting a complaint to the AZ Medical Board, AZ Board of Nursing, and Department of Health Services. The AZ Medical Board responded to me right away and also contacted Spectrum Medical. Now I've received six packets of medical records in the mail, which cost Spectrum nearly $90.00 when all I requested was results for one chest x-ray. I haven't received any communication from the AZ Board of Nursing or the Department of Health Services to date. This company is horrible. I was trying to set up appointments for my assisted living residents to get the booster shot. They will only let you leave a voicemail when you call them. Then they will call you back. I am pretty busy so when they called me back I was on the phone or away from my phone. They won't set a time to call you back and they won't let you call them other than leaving a voicemail. I tried to get in touch with them for about 2 weeks and finally gave up. Not trans-friendly as they're billed. I'm AFAB Transmasculine, I had a HIV+ partner and was on Grindr--They didn't understand why I wanted to get on PreP "as a female". Then gave the wrong info on what to expect while being on PreP as an XX person--like awareness on issues with bone density or differences in how long PreP takes to become effective. No one took any effort in using the right pronouns after being asked. HRT is not done on informed consent basis nor is that made clear at the start of an appointment. read more

The office staff are the rudest and the office manager along with Thayne's Vanig one of the owners and doctors that I was seeing for all 19.5 years allow the use of personal cell phones to contact patients and they allow them to call repeatedly back to back to back to back to back 5 times the MA tried calling me while I was working and in a difficult family situation using a cell phone NOT REGISTERED to this practice and who answers unsolicited calls these days I sure don't. Had they read my chart they would have seen a simple solution was to LEAVE A MESSAGE,, no way couldn't do that. So I raised hell with the office manager and wrote a letter to Thayne's after they used his signature stamp to write me a cancellation of patient care because they did not like being told to leave a message. I would say this as well, Thayne's was a great doctor but with all his health issues he spoke of the last time I seen him which was YEARS ago he pawns off his patients to his MAs and PAs so he doesn't have to see you because your established and no need is the feeling you get when a doctor passes you off as Thayne's did. So you pay a bill for a specialist that would be Thayne's and you will get a PA who gets paid way less. Das but true after 19.5 years that Thayne's Vanig doesnt give a rip about your care or he would have corrected this. BEWARE you will need to NEVER EVER raise your voice and never ever speak negatively STAY AWAY and find a better practice. Piss poor service provider to say the least. read more

My husband highly recommended this clinic. First, I went online to set up an appointment for Dr. Vanig, and I got the confirmation after few minutes. However, after a day or two, I got an email saying that my appointment was canceled and there was "NO" reason as to why. The thing is that nobody called me back and as a new patient, it's very upsetting. After what happened, I tried to book an appointment again for the second time around. Same thing happened " I got a confirmation that my appointment is already set, and after a day I got a cancellation on my appointment "WITHOUT" any reason nor a call from somebody in their office. I still want to give them a 3rd chance; maybe they are too busy or what. I set up an appointment again early today, and I got a confirmation about the scheduled appointment. As expected, after few hours I got the cancellation again. I'm pretty sure that they have an Admin or Office Manager who is handling these things "taking care of new and old patients." I'm very agitated with my experience in this clinic. How can I recommend them? Why should I trust them? I will "NEVER EVER" go to this place. I had been a patient here for 5+ years and up until recently been happy with the care I received. At the end of last year (2021) John Aldinger left the practice and thats when problems started after I was switched to Ethan Nguyen as my provider. I found myself having to jump through all sorts of hoops to continue receiving the same care and medication I've been receiving for 5+ years from multiple other providers at the practice. Suddenly prescription refills were being denied because a new policy was rolled out with no notice requiring separate appointments for PreP and other medications/medical needs. Luckily I found John Aldinger at One Medical in Scottsdale and have started going there, night and day improvement. Now if only Spectrum would send my medical records over to my new provider as requested. read more

Came here from LA and it was really challenging to find a gay friendly doctor as great as I had in LA esp after being with my last Dr for 15 years. Connected with Devin who was amazing and a huge help! Dr Vanig takes great care of me. John and Javier are both fantastic.
