Went to Banner Emergency Room with lower back pain yesterday and got quality care! I've been here before but they have improved the waiting area with security and metal detectors. The security, intake, nurses, and Dr.'s were all very kind and helped me feel secure with the diagnosis. Will continue coming here because of the great staff, thanks for the care. read more

I recently had an emergency and my adult daughter took me there ended being admitted from 4/28 throughout Sunday. I ended up with a male nurse during the day. He was terrible. He would play around with other staff members and was on the phone with his wife. Gossip about patients. He did so right out my room door stating he didn't want to enter my room. I was purposely last on his list. My morning medications were late. It was an hour and a half before he came to me. He was training a young lady who was in school to be a nurse. Mind you this is my 2nd day there. I reported him and the charge nurse spoke with him outside near my door. He spoke of untruths about me, saying I kept interrupting him. I asked for help. He was sitting outside my door not working on the computer just gossiping and flirting with other staff members. I am hearing all of this. I heard speak terribly about his cna, telling others she was coming on to him while he was outside my door to his wife. The charge nurse told him when I try to ask him something and the timing is good for him to excuse himself and tell me he must use the bathroom. Then they switched ky rooms down to the second floor. This was my 3rd time at banner and each time gets worse. In my own personal opinion, if you are hired for a job then do your job. If you don't have time right then say so. Yet, if you are not on a break and not helping another patient or staff member then you need to do your job. You should NEVER SPEAK ILL OF PATIENTS OUTSIDE THEIR DOOR. I had 6 kids and as my grandmother would say is I can hear a pin drop. Never again Banner never again. I am even gonna switch my cardiologist from banner to another doctor outside of banner. Your staff is horrible. They are luke children and work is where they come to play. The day nurse who was male was horrible not realizing his voice carries and even a whisper can be heard. Went in to ER with Bacterial Infection but all the nurses wanted to talk about was drugs and if I could score them meth. Once they realized I couldnt, they shined me on for 6 hours. Once I had enough and signed out security didn't want to let me leave. So i got tossed up by several "security guards" taking turns choking me out. After filing a complaint, hospital decided nothing was wrong. Good Luck to anyone going there. read more

Had hernia surgery there. The staff from checking to discharge everyone was outstanding. Very patient and understanding. Answered every ? From start to finish. Staff was very helpful,polite and fun to work with. Could only rate 5 stars but deserve 10. Great job team. HIGHLY RECOMMEND read more

I went to Banner Estrella Medical Center's ER for severe pain and ended up needing emergency gallbladder surgery. Not exactly how you want your day to go, but honestly the staff made a really stressful situation so much easier. Everyone was super prompt, professional, and kind from the moment I arrived. I was in way too much pain to remember most names, but my nurse after surgery, Elijah, truly stood out -- he was incredibly patient, compassionate, and made sure I was comfortable and taken care of. Overall, it was a really good experience despite the circumstances, and I'm very grateful for the care I received. Huge thanks to the whole team. read more

Very uncaring on patients well being. I came in because I had bad pain on my foot and was very swollen, I was taken into the rooms to see a doctor and I only spoke to her for about 2-3 minutes, she didn't even give medication for the pain. Before she left she just told me to go see a podiatrist then left. The next thing, billing came in and said I had a 1000 dollar bill for the visit only. if you actually want your doctors to listen to you and what you have to say, go to a different hospital. they absolutely DO NOT care for what you're comfortable with and what you do or don't want to do. most of them will walk out of the room mid conversation of you explaining how you feel. even if you're in an immense amount of pain, these doctors don't care about you!!! they will send you home to get worse. go to thunderbird or banner mesa. you will get treated better at both of those places!!! if you're here and are experiencing problems ask for Nicole the associate director aka manager. not to mention i lost 17 pounds in 3+ weeks of being there. read more

Avoid this ER at all costs, the care and response time is atrocious, they will neglect to care or look into life threatening situations while the staff flirts and plays around while there are patients that need care. It took 11 hours to get my father looked at and when they came around to do their job after a day of flirting with each other and acting like incompetent fools - they found that he had a brain hemorrhage and finally had him transferred in a rush panic. Absolutely worst Emergency room to be sent to as your life will be in the hands of people that rather flirt on the clock than save lives. read more

My parents live about 2 mins from here and every time they have had to come here, they are treated very well. It's a busy place so people who complain about understaffing and wait times have never worked at a hospital or even food service. My mom has been here for her heart issues and my dad just had hip surgery. I think the place itself is clean and staff is nice. I like their cafe; many choices to choose from and incredibly affordable. read more

Banner Estrella could not find where my husband was bleeding from after he had his first colonoscopy even though he was there for a month.  Finally having enough after one of the employees (I can't remember if she was a nurse or a lab tech) asked me and my adult children what we wanted them to do.  We stood there shocked for a moment until I replied  "Find where he is bleeding from and repair it!"   Mistake # 2 We decided to have him transferred to Mayo the Dr. cancelled all his blood draws.  (Even though I asked if his care would remain the same.  They assured me it would.)  One that told us how low his hemoglobin was to see if he needed another transfusion.  Had I not awakened in the middle of the night to check what the results were online he would have had a dire emergency.  Possibly died.  I had to call the hospital where they proceeded to argue with me if my husband even needed his blood drawn.  He ended up being transfused with-in the hour as his hemoglobin was critically low. Mistake @3 My husband's blood count was low. So he had balance issues. One of the nurses left him alone in the bathroom after helping him in with a wheelchair having just had a test where he had to lay completely still flat on his back.  She left him there alone.  He passed out hitting his head on the wall.  My children were in the room and heard the awful sound.  When the nurse rushed in, my children saw their dad laying there, color ashen.  Looking dead.  They were terrified! We had him transferred to the Mayo Clinic.  It took them all of 24 hours to find where he was bleeding from and repair it. read more

Was hauled in by ambulance Tuesday morning, don't remember too much about ER this time (they've been great in the past) but they got a room for me very quickly after ER care. I was there for 6 days because they kept finding serious problems I didn't know I had including a mild heart attack. The people were great, had some good laughs, and care was great also. Room was nice, needles were sharp (and frequent). Room food was OK...hey, it's a hospital. Cafeteria was nice with pretty good prices at least on what we bought. Only complaint I have is I didn't want to be in hospital in the 1st place. read more

At Banner on Thomas, understaffed, poor communications, and filthy. My daughter was admitted to emergency room. In the "holding" area inside the hospital, there were wads of chewed gum on the floor, garbage from opened medical supplies on the floor, and the care was terrible. The right hand did not know what the left hand was doing. I will put it on my records that no one from my family is to be admitted to that hospital ever again. 7/10/25 read more

I can't express enough that you should drive an hour past this hospital to literally anywhere else. The "care" was fucking awful. They forgot to order tests and left us for 3 hours. Who elects to ha e surgery? Me! I do. The team at the attached surgical center was friendly from the front desk to the nurses. Ima huge fan of the anesthesiologist because helllloooo to the best nap ever. I'm all seriousness, I was briefed about everything, asked about any concerns and given an abundance of information I needed for my procedures. . All nerves subsided and bonus to the admitting nurse who shaved a couple pounds off for me (shoes definitely weigh two pounds anyways). read more

What a complete waste of space this hospital is. The ER is over worked and under staffed. Most on staff simply don't care about patients and many act like a gaggle of high school punks laughing and fooling around like they are at lunch on campus. It's an adolescent party with patients in the way. When they do have to work to find a reason for symptoms they cop out with a diagnosis of cannabis and fall on CHS. My wife was dismissed without care needed and has been suffering for three days now. ER Doctor Chang is a completely dismissive, pompous, disrespectful, uncaring TOOL. He is not there for patients and only interested in clearing the floor of patients. Simply stated, he does not have the courage to do his job. Based on location, this hospital is nothing more than a clinica! Only interested in clearing the ER with phantom diagnosis, putting the community they "serve" at serious risk of harm or even death. I will take her to a responsible caring ER to get her care that is unbiased and by staff who take their jobs serious. Then begin the process of filing a complaint with the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners in hopes some licenses are revoked. Additionally, once we have a real diagnosis with a plan for care, I fully intend to seek counsel for damages including suffering, loss of work, medical debt for hospital and other care costs. DO NOT TAKE YOURSELF OR LOVED ONE TO THIS DEATH TRAP DISGUISED AS A MEDICAL CENTER! I give one star only because zero is not an option. This review is for Labor and Delivery at Banner Estrella. Our daughter had a baby two days ago and I was in the delivery room. I was so impressed with Labor and Delivery RN STEPHANIE as well as DR DU. Both were OUTSTANDING. I have been a RN for over 40 years and I know the demands of L & D. Stephanie was our angel RN . She was the PERFECT blend of competence and service excellence. The hospital smelled and looked clean and looks pretty updated. The L & D Reception area is small, but was adequate, even with our big family. The Labor Room was well equipped and comfortable. All of my daughter's nurses, CNA's and Lactation Nurses were attentive and kind. Every time a baby is born, there is a cute lullaby announcement overhead. Never again! I'd drive all the way to Scottsdale or surprise before I come here again. The staff is rude as soon as you walk in. Have some compassion people are sick then it takes 12 hours to get a diagnosis! Geez they need to be paying me for this process or they could have sent me home and called with the results. The hospital was dirty, nurses and triage never washed hands and were careless with all sanitation leaving iv supplies including test samples on bare dirty counter. Trash on floors. Had to ask nurse to please wear gloves. There was visible blood stains and urine in tbe ER rooms. Dirty beds floors sinks, Medical team only checked in after we sat for 3 1/2 hours because we called them. Barely did anything for care other than iv. I hope to never return. read more

Banner Estrella is a great place for care in the west valley! Much prefer visiting or being treated at this hospital compared to the Abrazo in Goodyear. The emergency waiting area needs to be updated and bigger but, the level of care you get outweighs that. Wait times are hit or miss and that is largely due to people coming to the ER for something that should've been an Urgent Care or Primary doctor visit. Al in all I trust bringing my family here and have never had a bad experience with the staff or medical treatment. read more

Had to be admitted for a horrible infection while pregnant. Love that my private room had a big window. Everything a normal hospital room offers, shower, large couch for guests, plenty of storage space, tv, and menu for ordering food. The bathrooms were very dirty and need updated. Tons of leaks and different things broken. The nurses were great. I do have to say though there hospital food is terrible. Only a few things were good and the portions were small if you didn't order more of something. Very bland and plain. I'm also used to private owned hospitals instead of corporate so this might be why the food is like this. Before checking in and being admitted I was in the ER waiting room for three hours, in the ER for 5 even after they told me they would be admitting me shortly after 2 hours. It took them 3 hours to just get me up to a room. In the ER I wasn't aloud to leave to eat or get comfortable. The wait times are horrible. The ER was also very dirty. read more

Let me start by saying I hate this hospital with enough passion to write a review. I visited this hospital 12/23/2025 for the most simple reason. I accidentally got my brand new cast wet due to the wrap I placed around it not being enough for a shower. I sat in the intake room for almost 2 hrs before they come in to tell me "we can't find the cast cutting scissors" you have to be shitting me. No way I sat here that long to be informed I'm not getting helped registration never came to see me and I needed to update my insurance. I left the hospital unhelped and frustrated I am more upset that first why on earth can't a hospital find their own equipment and second why would yall make me wait for a $400 visit to my insurance just to tell me oh sorry can't find our equipment can't help you. That was ridiculous this is the second time this hospital royally disappoints me I'm never coming back. No one has anything nice to say about this hospital when I mention it. This should have been a simple visit but that was extremely frustrating I won't be back they may not care but when complaints get to a certain point I hope they do. Special thank you to the nurse and the nurse assistant and the girl who discharged me I know they have nothing to do with this incident they were kind. Oh and to add my last time at the hospital just a month prior maybe the alcohol gauze was dirty and they left open pack of needle for my IV on the bed I've never in my life seen that how unsafe the is to do just in general. Took my 14 month old who is mobile and walking into the ER. They put us in an adult room. It was filthy, trash bins full, trash on the ground, no soap in the soap dispenser at the sink for me to even clean anything off. I couldn't let my toddler on the ground for fear he was going to get exposed to something contaminated with a blood born pathogen. There was blood splatter across the floor and across the side of the chair and when I told a nurse about it she told me "'a hospital was a dirty place' and dismissed me, never offering to clean it. The vitals assistant/nurse came in and I noticed there was blood along the blood pressure cord right where my toddler was grabbing. I told her about it and she proceeded to get a napkin soaking wet (without soap) and drench the cord while it was still attached to my child, making the bloody water mixture run down the cord towards my son. And on top of that, there was still blood on it that her napkin missed for the next patient to be exposed to. Absolutely a disgrace. Don't take your small children here. They do not care about creating a sanitary condition for patients and clearly don't care what they are exposing young children and toddlers to. Dr Val was great. She was the only positive in this whole ordeal. However, lesson has been learned and we won't be coming here with the kids ever again. Sad because my son was born here. read more

After spending 28 days here I have nothing but good to say about my care. The staff is wonderful and compassionate. I was admitted for a mass by my lung. That collapsed my lung. There were a lot of complications, thus 28 days. Obviously, I had bad times and a lot of pain. The staff would come in and talk to me and encourage me to not give up. The facilities were very clean and all precautions were taken to keep me as well as them healthy. Over the years, I have done some stupid things that have resulted in hospital stays. My experience at the Banner Estrella Hopostal which is off 101 and Thomas Road. I went in early Christmas day with severe pain. For most of the first day, my experience was pretty good. Maybe a snotty comment from a nurse ("you must have weak pain tolerance"--before she knew the complications I had), but nothing to worry about. On the second day, 12/26, after surgery, I was in pain and asked for pain medicine which I knew was on my prescription regimen. I asked four nurses in my room just before 7 AM to get it. All 4 of them assured me they were going straight to get it. None of the four returned until after the pain had started to spiral around 10 AM. Say:do ratio is important as a nurse on a surgery ops floor. The next day I was moved to the oncology floor, where they only had toilets in children's size. Well, maybe not officially, but they did have a booster seat that was too small to fit a grown man's stuff through. They didn't have urinal cups to catch it, so I had to throw paper towels all over the bathroom floor whenever I had to relieve myself. I didn't see the cleaning crew until Thursday, though the CNA usually picked this up for me. On Tuesday night, I told three nurses I was overmedicated and didn't feel like I could get up. None of them did anything about it, though one of them retorted, "you'd feel better if you walked more"--I had walked 4x during the day, and I know few people like exercise at 2 AM. Not sure how that response was logical, empathetic, or much beyond a non sequitur statement. The next day I had a nurse named Joanna (Wednesday only). Neil, the LPN, assisted her. Neil had been there the day before and was positive, upbeat, and helpful, but Joanna elevated him and the rest of the floor to a new level. She recognized that I couldn't have a bowel movement due to the toilet situation and brought in a temporary toilet. Joanna helped me formulate questions I needed to ask the doctor about medications. She also gave me enough pros/cons to allow me to decline others in an educated way. The entire staff was more attentive when Joanna was there, and I made a point to thank her boss for her all-star work. I would not have been ready for release nearly as soon if it weren't for her. A good nurse can speed healing and make all the other support staff significantly more effective. However, on Wednesday night Joanna was relieved by Abdul. I recognized him for his award on the wall as a decorated nurse. Unfortunately, his actions did not show it. When I pooped that night, it was taken from the temporary toilet, thrown on the shower floor, and hosed down the drain instead of in the regular toilet where the poop could have been flushed. If you have ever been around poop that has been hosed down, you know the room's smell. Abdul did not replace the basin, so that I couldn't use it again. Additionally, some poop liquid got in the main room as well! It was then I noticed that there were bunches of hairs in my bed from some other human. While someone could have placed the hair clump there when I was out on walks, Occam's razor would suggest much more likely from a prior patient. I complained about the restroom between 4 and 5 AM--it was not until I had texted the CEO's office at 10 AM did things start to move, and the day shift nurse (Neil) cleaned the restroom! Where was the cleaning crew? Well, they rolled in 20 minutes later and did a little work with a mop; the first time I had seen them doing anything beyond rubbish bin duty all week. While waiting for the bathroom to be cleaned, holding my poop in, I called the billing team to make sure they had my insurance information squared away. They did have my insurance and quoted me a total that I believe to be above my deductible total for the year. I said I wanted to see the detailed bill, and they assured me I could not be released without paying. Eventually, I hung up the phone on them as their tactics were akin to an unscrupulous and aggressive collections agency. Given what happened, I am sure there will be more than one error to find on that itemized bill! After waiting another 4+ hours to be discharged, I got wheeled to the discharge lounge. There Tom was short with me when I wanted to read what I was going to sign and gave me factually incorrect information about the pharmacy. He said they could shift it to Walgreens near my house, but after five more calls, I learned this was not true since it had already been fulfilled without my knowledge at the hospital. He also said I had to walk down the long hallway since they were out of wheelchairs. While this might have been true, I don't understand how there were no wheelchairs when I was the only person in discharge. The labor shortage is one thing (Tom had someone else in discharge with him), but a wheelchair shortage? My impression is that Banner Estrella hospital is not sanitary or well-run. The service in the ER is absolutely atrocious. My wife has been waiting approximately 8 hours to see a provider for an illness that could not be treated in the Urgent Care with little to no updates. Your front desk staff lacks empathy and show that they can careless about the patients. I have never in my life experienced an ER visit, such as the one I have experienced today. You should really learn from hospitals like Glendale Adventist and Huntington Memorial in California. As a paying patient, the services rendered should be alot better than what we have experienced. I would hate to be treated at your hospital in the event of a real emergency, I most definitely would not survive. read more

Called the maternity department at banner health and spoke with Araceli. She was trying to rush my off the phone in such a rude manner. I asked a few questions and one question pertained to her department. She was going to transfer me to another department before answering my question to quickly get me off the phone. This hospital staff is disgusting! Down to registration. Told me I was in the system because I sent my packet a while ago but didn't even look up my information. Upon looking my information up...MY INFORMATION WAS NEVER IN THE SYSTEM and she continued to add all my information in the system. Went in with chest pains, black stool and fatigue. Was discharged with chest pain, black stool and fatigue. They were more worried about running sugar tests for diabetes, which, by the way,I do not have diabetes. They never ran a full cardio. Work up to check my arteries and see why I was having chest pains. They never tested the black stool or ran a camera to see where I'm bleeding internally. My Hemoglobins went from 12 to 10.8 yet they never once Checked to see where I'm bleeding at inside.. When Inwas leaning I asked to speak to an advocate and was advised they didn't have one and they didn't even offer me a supervisor. As I was leaving, I told the nurse. I was having chest pains and was very stressed and felt like I was having an anxiety attack and yet they didn't even care. They just sent me on my way. I continuously asked why they kept checking my blood sugar and didn't do a cardio. Work up to check my heart's arteries. Their response was. We put a heart monitor on you. Once discharged I left and now I'm finally on a formal complaint. I will be reviewing them. I will be reporting them to the hospital board. Whatever I gotta do I don't feel like they did anything for me. They kept me without food. The 1st day and a 1/2 because I thought they were gonna put the camera and run the test to see where I was bleeding internally and they didn't. This hospital really has some communication issues. I never once told me anything. I kept having to press them. And after I was released, they told me my hemoglobins had dropped again, yet they released me.. Only treatment they gave me There was antacids an an iv, sugar tests and Watched my Hema globins by running blood. And even though they kept dropping, they never did anything else. They never once tested anything to find out where the bleeding was or why my heart was hurting. read more

Took my one year old here who turned out to have pneumonia. They had no changing stations in the rooms or restrooms. One of the nurses brought in a baby weighing station and told me to change him there. Or use a medication table. Very unsanitary. They also made 5 attempts to get my baby's blood pressure on his thigh which is only practice for new borns. They made me hold my baby in a room for hours in a chair . I voiced my opinion about the room not being baby friendly , and was told "then why did you come here" . That same nurse supposedly sent 2 prescriptions to my pharmacy but the pharmacy only received one. I wouldn't recommend bringing babies here. read more

How was my experience at Banner Estrella? Bad. I've come in multiple times for several of my asthma flares causing hospitalizations and this past time was the worst. I came in already anxious having to be away from my toddler, struggling to breathe & being sent there from my Drs. Office with a note advising they almost sent me by ambulance. They never looked at the note. The nurse took my stats and saw my o2 shoot to 95 once and said "look you're fine" and the Dr. refused to read, look at or entertain what my Dr. had said. They got me in a bed where I sat for 5 hours with nobody offering a blanket, water, or even monitoring me as my monitor was non functional. Struggling to breathe I begged to go home and upon hearing my cough and gasps for breathe said I wasn't going anywhere. They were right - I was admitted for 2 days. Fuck you. read more
