When I stay it's chock full of inventory, I mean to the brim! They carry tons of nautical items, including the elusive mermaids. Also stocked downstairs and upstairs is kitchenware, tea towels, and antique tins and trays. I love the candy shop, full of "penny" candy from yesteryear and an ice cream shop in the back. For your tots, there's a large selection of toys and puppets, puzzles and more. I had a Blast moseying around Parsons store filling my basket with bygone treasures. After we browsed a bit, and spent a fair sum on well priced trinkets (I fell in love with a bicycle planter that I got on sale!), we set a spell on the rustic white porch and watched the whirligigs do their thing. There's a checkerboard on a barrel between the two rocking chairs if you're up for a game! Don't forget to check out the sale corner! Come in and have a peek! The owner is a sweetheart!

Every time I visit Beaufort and…read moreventure off of the waterfront for something, I pass by this place and tend to be reminded of several "stab and grab" convenience stores during my travels, but during the day, I decided that I would give this place a try... plus I had hubs with me so I felt a bit safer. Honestly, this was a fun convenient store that made me question my first judgement. I probably wouldn't venture here at night alone, but during the day, it had all of the things we needed: paper towels, ice, and some snacks. Nothing special about Big Daddy's, except maybe the name, and the Christmas decor on the outside, but it did meet our needs on this Sunday afternoon in Beaufort.

But you can also get a backpack, some excellent Japanese pencils and notebooks, and various other refined products that you need but you don't necessarily know you need. I have heard much about the rage for tinned seafood but wasn't quite sure where to start because the idea of eating a whole sardine or anchovy not so appealing to me. I asked for help and was given excellent advice and as you can see from the photos got myself a small starter pack as well as an ingenious little notebook to keep track of what I'm trying and my preferences. It can be hard to see this small shop amid all of the big touristy stores in Beaufort. But look for it across the street from Cru coffee and wine bar (which is also worth a stop). The building was once Owen's Grocery store and is now a casual restaurant. They serve sandwiches and salads for lunch, but the dinner menu is closer to fine dining. I highly recommend making reservations if you are going for dinner, as it is a very popular place, even in the off-season. Reservations are not taken for the Sunday brunch, so I made sure to get there early to be first in line. On my recent visits, the restaurant was decorated for the holidays, so that was fun. It is small inside, but in warmer weather, there are outside tables. Alex took care of me at dinner. He was very welcoming, friendly, and could answer all my questions. He was very attentive and made sure my iced tea was always full. I went with the special for the night. I ordered the ribeye special without realizing it was 20 ounces. Thankfully, my appetite was good that night. It came with brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. I did get dessert too, and that was a chocolate peanut butter pie. That took me two days to finish. At brunch, my waitress was friendly and went over all the specials. I had a green apple mocktail, the #18 poached and stacked. I did the mini sweet potato biscuits as well so it was a lot of food. Alex, from dinner, saw me and asked me about my trip, so it was nice to see him again, and I thought it was nice that he remembered my plans. The bridal party along with a few others met here for lunch and they were able to seat us outside rather quickly by putting tables together which was so kind. All of us enjoyed our drinks. This business use to be a very pleasant local shop to visit for gas or you needs. It has…read moredrastically gone downhill. They have no care for their local customers as they have decreased their business hours to include shutting down on Sundays. They seem to have only 2 girls working there that are not very pleasant. One girl is alway watching movies on a computer and the other has no customer service skills at all. There ATM is always out of cash and now their gas pumps are out of commission. I have never ever seen any form of management or ownership in the store. I expect they will be out of business shortly unless they wake up too the needs of the locals and tourist.
