Other than several shoppers not wearing masks and the amount of people crowded into areas storing bakery and produce, the shopping experience was fine. I found everything I needed, produce seemed fresh, beer cold, large selection of everything from pancake mixes and syrups to lunch meat. The store is clean, well stocked, and easy to navigate. The checkout line seemed very slow, but cashiers were friendly. (From the archives. Visited this store multiple times in June of this year and July of last year.) It always reminds me that we are in NC whenever we visit a Food Lion. I say that because coming from PA where FL doesn't exist, the only times I have ever been inside one are here and at the location in Corolla. This store is located conveniently on the "main drag" of Atlantic Beach in what for all intensive purposes is the only strip mall on this part of the island. Plenty of stuff a short drive back on to the mainland in Morehead City, but this is it for what is close to AB and Pine Knoll. I would classify this place as a small town boutique supermarket. This is certainly not a warehouse store and it's also not something like a Wegmans which in terms of square footage and choices would dwarf this place. No, what you're getting here is a solid dose of tourist/beach essentials that leans heavily towards their store brand generics. Not to say that any of that is bad as the pricing and quality of their store branded offerings are quite good. A few things to keep in mind: * I would imagine that the hours vary here seasonally. I know the Food Lion in Corolla can be open 24/7 in summer and in late December be shutting down at 7pm. We've only been here in season and both years the hours were 6am-Midnight. * It goes without saying that in season this store is always packed. Even coming here at 8am on a weekday will yield a fairly busy crowd. * Lots of open registers and if you don't have their MVP card they are more than happy to let you use a store card or sign you up for a card of your own no problem. * Two minor potential downsides. One is that the deli here is on the small side. They don't pre-cut a lot of things and their selections in general are small. Hopefully you like their two types (generalized) of turkey because that's all your getting. My local Giant Store between their brand and Boar's Head has ?? eight types of turkey. If you're big on going to the grocery store and buying a bunch of grab and go meals/sides, not here, as those types of choices are more or less non-existent. Overall the store is clean and well stocked. If I lived in the area I would probably be shopping here. It's not fancy by any means but it gets the job done. Good enough for me. read more

Food Lion is our GO-TO when we are in Atlantic Beach. Friendly staff, great selection, delicious fresh produce. The store is always clean and well organized, and the bathrooms are clean (yes, its a thing with me). read more

I don't know if manager is watching but Sunday night was packed with vacationers including myself and there were only two registers open. The register I was in build up way back and people started get irritated because no self service and the guy who's helping bagging my cashier doesn't need help but he can open up a register to relieve the line that's so badly back up. Lead person or manager should keep watching these kinda a issues. read more

This store does incredible business and we alter our route so we go to this store prior to our initial check-in at the condos where we vacation when we go to Atlantic Beach. They have 12 or more registers and they get people out as quickly as they can. The only downside is one they probably cannot control. Their aisles could be a bit bigger, but they probably have constraints as they are bordered by another store. One really cool feature is the open cooler where they keep the beer. It smells great. The parking is a little difficult,but the management does a great job because this store (on the east side) is constantly packed. Food Lion - A fun night ahead. - Grocery Near Me - Atlantic Beach, North Carolina

Not a huge big-city grocery store, but they had everything we needed and the staff was friendly and helpful. The lines were long over the weekend, but I just checked out (Wednesday at noon) and was able to walk straight up to a register and check out. Even though the crowds have died down (compared to the weekend grocery shoppers), almost all of the registers were still open and ready to go. Also wanted to say that the managers were SUPER nice. I just interrupted a staff meeting (without realizing it) and asked about specific item. They all stopped and helped me, offering suggestions of similar items since they didn't have what I needed (red, white and blue only sprinkles). About 5 minutes later, one of the managers tracked me down on the other side of the store and gave me a bag of what I needed, for free, from the bakery. I was so impressed!! We don't ever have that kind of awesome service where we're from. I would definitely recommend the Food Lion at Atlantic Station! read more

On Bogue Banks, there are two large grocery stores at opposite sides of the island. Both are Food Lion, and both are equally adequate for the groceries, water, ice and beer you'll want to consume while on vacation. Other places to grocery shop on Bogue Banks are smaller, just as low-rent if not more so, and more expensive. Like its mainland brethren, the island Lions are relatively cheap and not known for gourmet or exotic foodstuffs. The "hams dipped in bleach" controversy (http://tinyurl.com/mpd58hu) is 20 years behind Food Lion and they learned a lesson from it (I hope). They will have a good selection of the basics and they won't overcharge you despite what my Dad thought 30 years ago when going to the beach meant trekking 45 minutes to the mainland for PB&J supplies. This is the same man who would go twenty miles out of the way to save a penny on a gallon of gas and who thought the dishwasher detergent manufacturers were in cahoots with the dishwasher makers to collude by making the soap container larger than it needed to be. Dad's retirement nest egg is pretty large, so maybe I shouldn't be mocking him in a public review, but he'll never see this and if he does I'll pretend someone hacked into my Yelp account. Staff at both locations do a damn fine job and you have to give them props for hanging in there during the mad weekend rush as people check in and decide that no matter how safe the drinking water is it's not going to touch their lips, nor is that ice that may or may not be fresh coming out of the filtered ice maker in the freezer. Sad to say I count me in that crowd, so off to Food Lion I go. Yeah why not. Your rich neighbors aren't going to see you shopping there, and if they do its because they are also shopping there. Easternmost Food Lion (closer to Moorehead City bridge) on Bogue Banks has better room in the isles and better flow in the parking lot. Other than that, pick whichever is closest and you'll be perfectly happy with what you get. Of course, don't forget your reusable bags. Just because you are on vacation doesn't mean you can't do simple things to reduce plastic consumption. read more

Visited Atlantic Beach. Cashiers were very friendly, and checkout was relatively quick - expected worked. Good selection of essentials at very competitive pricing - no price gouging. Gave us use of the in-store discount card. Great selection of wine, and some very inexpensive. A positive experience. read more
