You can see a faint yellow circle where it was highlighted for past repair even though I have been told by a couple mechanics that you should not fix side wall punctures as the plug often fails to fix the problem long term. I was told to F'off by an Andrew Nolan who I discovered was the owner of the garage when looking his company up. I urge anyone considering using these cowboys to avoid this garage at all costs!! Needless to say I went elsewhere and bought from another garage. I suggest you do the same!!

Offering a good selection of tyres, with a number of really affordable options, this friendly little tyre outlet is one of the cheapest places to get your tyres seen to in Cardiff. Ronnie March, who set up the business with another partner back at the beginning of the ninety's knows what it's like to weather a recession. Nevertheless, he says that times are tough at the moment and that business is simply "about surviving" until things improve. What he's noticed most of all is that people, who are desperate to stay on the road, are asking him to put on their spare tyres when thy get a puncture instead of buying new ones. These are people with very little money, either drawing the dole, or in minimum wage jobs, where often their hours have been cut. But, without a car their chances of improving their lot are significantly reduced. It's a vicious cycle! Ronnie does what he can to help, but it's clear that he finds the situation demoralising on occasion. Nevertheless, he has a wealth of experience behind him, and a solid set of shoulders with which to carry the present burdens. Being an affable soul, with a sense of civic interest, coupled with a good sense of humour, he will do more than survive I'm sure.

I said I'd be there at 10am the following day. When arrived I asked how long it would be and they said an hour to an hour and a half. I was there for 3 hours plus! They changed one of the tyres and aligned the front wheels. As I was driving home the warning light came on saying the the tyre pressure sensor was faulty. There's no way I'm taking it back to the Merthyr Tydfil branch. The staff seem very busy and are polite enough but they don't keep you informed about what is happening and they make mistakes. Wy wife took her car in to the same branch a couple of month's previously and she had to go back because the valve they had fitted (or forgot to replace) with a new tyre was faulty and the tyre was completely flat the following morning. It's frustrating because the car is a Motability car and Motability only deal with Kwik Fit. So you have no choice of where to take it. I will be contacting Motability to complain about them.

I always imagined e-tyres.co.uk were the cheapest source for new tyres. However, upon being…read morerecommended this place I have discovered further competitive prices. It's not the easiest place to get to, located at the top of a slope and on the peak of a tight 'boomerang' crescent. Due to limited space inside the depot it is also difficult to reverse from, though someone is at hand to guide you out. I wanted a 195/65/R15/H profile and the cheapest tyre was £38, which was temporarily out of stock. The next one up was £44.62 (VAT, balancing and valve inc.), though this was still cheaper than e-tyres. The mechanic examined my tyre and identified the reason it was losing air was because of bubbles that had formed on the inner lining of the alloy. He helpfully smoothed down the alloy at no extra charge. You don't feel like you're being 'had', which is important to me from any service where my mechanical nous is limited. The mechanic suggested I have another tyre changed, and pointed out the metal spikes that had begun to show from the worn rubber as the reason. Upon seeing the condition of that same tyre, one of the other guys bluntly told me that if he were a judge he'd take my licence away! That kind of stoney-faced statement can be mistaken for rudeness amongst more sensitive souls, but I personally appreciated his honesty. If you're after a quick, efficient service and cheap, good-value tyres then this is the place to come.

Only downside was making a fool of myself trying to reverse out of the building!

Work near this garage and have always thought they were okay…read more However they changed an exhaust for me a month ago and the new exhaust makes my car sound like a tractor. So loud that people stare at me at traffic lights. No new exhaust should be noisy! The owner refused to change it and said it 'blows fumes out' so it does what it should. He acknowledged that he had put a cheap exhaust on, and had also made a comment about my car needing to be scrapped (it's a tidy R reg.. no rust, silent engine, perfect drive), and clearly decided to treat my car as such. He told me the noise was because my car's emissions were out. I may be female, but I know when someone's talking a load of rubbish. Having had other garages look at it, they have said that the new tailpipe is shorter than the one he removed and should be either longer, or angled downwards. Again, the owner of City Tyres keeps saying that 'it blows air out' and that he will not replace it as it isn't faulty. When I pointed out that the exhaust should be longer, he told me that I 'should have gone to Toyota'. I'm currently going down the Trading Standards route with this guy. He is patronising, sexist and obnoxious. Don't go there. I will update as things unfold. ** Have increased the ratings slightly. Hmmm. I went back armed with DOT guidelines and a load of legislation provided for me by Trading Standards regarding the sale of goods or services. All of a sudden the owner stopped being quite so condescending and argumentative, and started staring intently at the order catalogue and then said that the supplier had given them the exhaust for a hatchback instead of a saloon. So, too short, then. As I had been saying all along. They added an extention to the tailpipe.. and at this point the owner disappeared and I was left dealing with one of the mechanics, who was a whole lot more pleasant. It cost me a whole load of stress, several phonecalls to Trading Standards, a visit to another garage, and a very unpleasant shouting match over the phone with the owner, who insisted he was refusing to change anything. Note of warning he seems to think that shouting loudly and repeating the same phrase over and over, makes him right. Going back there was pretty hard, given I will usually do anything to avoid confrontation. If he had listened to me at the start, admitted he'd fitted the wrong exhaust and treated me with a little common courtesy, I would be giving them 5 stars. I work approximately 30 feet from this garage and it's very convenient but I will never, ever go there again. A shame, cos the rest of the lads are pretty nice guys.
