The Gun has recently come under new management, with the aim of turning the place back into what is once was. Which was a fine pub where you could have a nice drink, in comfortable surroundings, without football or music on the TV. The Gun also had a reputation for good food, either in the bar or upstairs in the restaurant. Well the good news is that Stuart and Emma have got the place just how it used to be. Good beers at reasonable prices, with casks ales available too. The food in the bar is very good, but upstairs in the restaurant you will be spoiled be a fabulous menu, cooked to your taste, presented very well and served by Emma or her staff, with a smile. Themed food evenings, such as tapas nights are very popular too. If a nice malt whiskey is your thing, then Stuart is building a good collection and will make you welcome with a friendly chat. In the past, people have tried to build up custom here with football on the TV, cheap beers, karaoke or live music, but Stuart and Emma are succeeding with The Gun Inn as it used to be.

Various family and friends have bragged to each other about this place only to find it is not such a secret with locals. This is the kind of place you will take someone to try. They must see it. They shouldn't have to miss out. Bearing all this in mind, it is not perfect. The layout is a little annoying for large parties- no tables will accommodate more than six or seven easily and there simply isn't enough space to be pushing and joining etc. Also, you run the risk on a Sunday of running out of certain meats so either there will be a hefty wait, as on my sister's most recent birthday here, or various diners will eat at different times depending on which meat they want with their Sunday roast. The carvery is good though. An ok amount of choice, but enough to satisfy most eager customers. The air is lively and chatty whilst being relaxed. If it weren't for the points above I'd have given it a 5.

Plus the pub is attractive Sunday 6th May visited between 2pm-3pm for a Sunday Carvery. The carver on duty was Simon i hope I got his name right, think he is Irish. As soon as you step in you are washed over with a sense of homliness. At the far left a giant fire burns with the owners dogs at its feet. Occasionally they will approach with their tennis balls begging for some playtime. The place itself is littered with brass, guitars and other oddities above the bar. Which offers a good healthy selection with good service. Yesterday we decided to sample the food because it looked so good and homely last time. Unfortunately the football had been on some popular dishes like chicken jalfreizi was gone. I chose the fish pie crowned with cheese mash while my dad had the steak with homemade chips. The food was good , but forgettable. My pie was a good portion and tasted fresh except it lacked seasoning and depth of flavour. My dads however had too much salt. To finish we had a winterberry pie served with Cornish ice-cream. The pie was also locally made. Overall I am giving this place a higher rating for its ambiance and the welcoming the owners give you every time. The food is a tad overpriced at the moment unless they improve upon it slightly. Give this place a visit by all means

I needed some spicy food while I was working in the UK…read more Someone recommended this restaurant. We ate there and I was impressed. The lamb jalfrezi was excellent. A big plus is this restaurant also serves beer. I will say that based off of my experience it was the best Indian food I have ever had.
