I have been going to this place since 14 years now. Even knowing the prices are way too high compared to other Indian stores. Today the owners have crossed the limit. I have witnessed so many times that they are so rude to customers. When customer confront them they usually tell them not to come to the store again and we don't need customers like you. Today same thing happened to me I have confronted them today about my item. I told the owner that the product you guys sold me wasn't the right one I'm looking for. I was looking for clothes for my idol But instead of selling me the right product the owner sold me decoration item which look like a dress but actually it's a decoration when I opened it. I have been to the store several times and complained to the owners that the product you guys sold me it's not correct can you please exchange I don't need money or anything I just need my product to be exchanged. always there give me a different different reason and walk away. Today I went there again I have requested but again that lady told me Decorate your place with that item it will look nice and didn't even consider my request And again walked away. Whenever I try to talk to them they just walk away husband and wife. Wife always makes the faces and tells the husband something in her language and then husband always tells me I'm sorry we cannot exchange the item. Today I have confronted them again. The wife did the same thing walk away. Today I told the cashier to call the younger brother he is super nice and humble but I guess he was out of store so he called the owner again owner came and start again telling me his so-called policies and start arguing with me. I have told the owner the product you have sold me is no use for me and I will return you the product and the money just keep it as a donation. He got super offended and told us that we will refund your money you don't have to buy anything from our store but my mom said you know what this is a prayer item I will buy it it's OK. While my mom is proceeding with the transaction The guy is talking nonstop Telling us that we don't need a customer like you and don't ever come to the store I was also upset so I told the husband and wife that you guys are frauding the consumers and you both husband and wife Are both fraud and I walk away from the store. The owner have started to curse me. He is so unprofessional unethical, no customer service at all. He thinks this is a Third World country that he can manipulate anyone and sell his junk product to people. we consume alare not stupid we know that it's a small business and we are always promoting them even by knowing that the make up price is 500%. You guys should go and see the Prayer items are super expensive and higher marked. Last time I went to the store to the produce side there was lots of mouldy pita bread on the shelf.Store is filthy dirty but as a customer we can never voice out because the male owner right away will start insulting you and will harass you in front of other customers and will tell you not to come his store again. This is extremely shameful and definitely I will take this concerned further. Another thing he always tells me that they don't return any pooja item but in the receipt it's clearly written jewelry/Gifts items are final sales. This is one of my to-go grocery stores in Edmonton. I always go here for shallots and fresh ring of fire peppers. The shallots that they have are different with other Asian or regular grocery stores. They are smaller, stronger and sweeter. Every summer, I stock fresh ring of fire peppers from here and keep them frozen. I was also able to find Jamaican mangoes that have a similar appearance with Indonesian mangoes. One time I also found green amaranth spinach that wasn't very common to be found in Canada. Lovely selections of tropical produces! Lovely owner and staffs! They have been always so helpful everytime I have questions. Basically I go to this store twice a month or at least once a month to stock up for shallots. read more

Spice Centre is certainly the best Indian grocery store in Edmonton and among the best ethnic grocery stores around. I've been here quite a few times (since I'm Indian and need my curry powder) and have never been disappointed with the availability of things. As the name suggests, they sell spices! A lot of spices - believe you me. I also like that it is custom packet, possibly at their store itself and usually one can find small packets of spices, which is great. It's of course particularly good for Indian spices which, on many occasions, is a mixture of several known dry ingredients. Classic spice powders like garam masala, channa masala, tandoori chicken powders etc. are available abundantly. Now, apart from spices they have a vast variety of lentil beans, rice and other grains packaged in 250 gm or 500 gm sizes for easy use. In fact, they might have just 6-8 different brands of basmati rice! As Gord also mentioned, they have some Caribbean stuff out here. In particular, the Cassava chips are something I LOVE! I don't remember the brand name, but they're delicious. Lots of Indian pickles and other such items, like in most other ethnic stores, dress a couple of aisles. If you're into Bollywood, they rent out DVDs. I haven't yet borrowed any, so I don't know what the rental policy etc. is. A small collection of fresh vegetables, mostly things that you wouldn't find in a Safeway, However, I have only on few occasions purchased veggies from here simply because that's not the reason for me to visit the store. Don't be afraid of the freezer section. There are some nice little frozen food items there that aren't necessarily healthy, but so tasty and, at times, hits the spot! I like this store. My first trip to Spice Centre was for a hard-to-find spicy pepper needed for a Jamaican dish. I noticed most of the food in the store was geared towards Indian food, which leads me to my second trip to the store... The second time we went to the store, my wife and I spent a lot more time in there. It was actually the meeting place for "Shop, Cook, and Eat: Indian," a cooking class offered by the City of Edmonton through the City Arts Centre. We met the teacher at the store, and she walked us through the staples of Indian cooking, including the different legumes, spices, and packaged food offered by the store. It was a great time, and helped us with planning our future purchases. A few days after our class we went back to the store and picked up various spices for a dish we were cooking. I also grabbed some spicy Jamaican patties, and a few other things. I chatted with one of the employees, and he helped answer a couple of questions I had, and even suggested a few things I may want to pick up on my next visit. This is definitely the place to go if you enjoy Indian food, or even some other ethnic dishes. It can be a bit intimidating if you don't know what something is, but they have many helpful people working at the store that can answer any questions you have. If I need Indian grocery, spices - this the place I go. One stop shop. The best thing is very warm staff. Just love the way they respond when you seek an item. I love this store! It's quite a ways from where I live but anytime I'm in town, I make a point of going there. If I don't really need anything it's a good place to browse and if I do need something, it's a great place to find it. I love Indian cuisine and it doesn't get any better than here if I'm going to make my own. If I can't find something or need help deciphering a recipe, the staff is more than ready to help me out, either finding what I need or explaining what a recipe item is and or how to use it. As against all other reviews, I just want to say that I am whole lot disappointed with Spice centre. Agreed we do find all kind of spices and there is nothing that they do not have. But did anyone look into the EXPIRY DATE of the products that is being sold here ??? for many products like, MTR garam masala, Eastern dosa mix , food colouring agents, the expiry date is way behind. Products that have their expiry date in JULY 2012 (I saw this first in january 2013) are still being sold!!! I did go and tell them that the items on shelf are already well past the expiry date and they are extremely cool about it!! their immediate response was " do you want to exchange?" after few weeks assuming that the goods would have been replaced, i went and checked the same items and no they were not even replaced!! Today he charged more than double for a kind of chilli, it was about 100 gram and I was charged $ 6.77, I looked @ the bill and noticed that it must be a cheating. so, I talked to him and he confessed that it was wrong. I looked @ my bills and the wt. of everythings I bought was the same (0.385 kg) weather I bought 2 kerela about 100 g or 3 drumsticks or the same kind of 6 kerala that my friend bought @ the same time. we bought 6 items of different weight and we are charged the same wt. 0.385 kg for each, which is unbelievable ( I have both the recipts). so, I was very disappointed, and I decided not to take any items, but instead of apologizing his mistakes, he appeared very rude and threatened me to leave the store otherwise he told me that he will slap me, his behavior was so mean, he was so rude!!!. He tried to threatened me by saying ''I will call police'' inorder to hide his mistakes. I said go ahead, then he kept his phone down, and he was trying to come out of the counter as if trying to beat me but a lady worker stopped him. He does not have manner to deal with customers as he threatened not to come his store. He should know that, this is not India, its Canada, here we have laws and order. Every body should be respected.
