Absolutely unacceptable experience. I found a hair in my food and called the restaurant to report the issue, but the staff member who answered, Nodia, became incredibly argumentative, rude, and aggressive. I have recorded the phone call as proof of their hostile customer service. Furthermore, I witnessed the chef using their bare hands to pick something out of the curry before serving it to customers. The lack of basic hygiene and the appalling customer service make it impossible to recommend this place. Avoid at all costs. read more

Super happy to see a menu that clearly lists gluten free and dairy free options. Makes it so much easier for me when ordering. We arrived around noon on a Wednesday and were the first customers there. Dining room was comfortable with lots of tables and chairs. Our server was pleasant and efficient. They have a nice sized menu with lots of options. Our food came out pretty quick and it was pretty tasty. We ate at several Indian restaurants on our trip to BCand when we asked the servers about spice levels - - they stated that food isn't very spicy there so order spicy. We are tourists and Spice Hut was a restaurant recommended by our local hosts. Spice Hut is a restaurant located just off Hwy 1, very spacious with ample seating. The hostess sat us right away and took our order. Our appetizer, the honey cauliflower arrived quickly and was so delicious- mint chutney topped it off. Between myself and my kids, we ordered a large rice (huge amount), two butter chickens, chicken curry, and 3 garlic naans. The food portions are huge!! Food was phenomenal- some of the best Indian I've had. My only complaint is the hostess who took our order must have left, and the ladies that took over were not very attentive. My kids had no water refill until the very end- and we all needed it with the spice. As a tourist, I wasn't sure if it would be polite to go find someone, so we just waited. Eventually we had a water refill and requested the check and some boxes. I did order a Kheer to go- wasn't my favorite- overly sweet- Kheer is my favorite dessert- should be subtly sweet. Not sure who the chef was today Dec 17 around 2 PM but it was not the usual good food. I picked up $90 order around 2:30 pm. The food way over spiced with too much salt. Not your usual high standard Indian cruise. Maybe they hired a new chef. What a disappointment though when you drive for an hour to pickup? read more

We always split a combo, between the two of us. Just get a second order of Naan and of rice and it is more than enough for senior couple. Very clean restaurant and take out orders are always packaged nicely. read more

I was blown away by this place! Amazing service and an amazing view. The food though? To die for. Amazing flavors. The perfect amount of heat. I had the chicken korma and oh man was it good. The sauce was hot, but not so hot it hid the perfect blend of spices. So rich and creamy, and a huge portion of chicken. I would eat here again in a heartbeat! You might not expect much from a small town Indian restaurant, but it was the best Indian food I've ever had, save the curry and roti I had in Sri Lanka. We ordered the Lamb Korma and the Beef Vindaloo. We also ordered a side of Chicken Pakora and both garlic and regular naan. The Korma was creamy and flavourful. It was spice level "Hot" but not very spicy. My boyfriend ordered the "Indian Spicy" and it had a nice kick. However, the beef was a bit dry. We came here for lunch on the way to Parksville. Our expectations were low because there was only one waitress tending to about 50 patrons and only two guys in the kitchen. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by what they delivered. The lone waitress was prompt and courteous. She got the order perfect. We ordered chicken masala, lamb masala, tendouri chicken and butter chicken. All of the dishes were delightful. The flavors were very pronounced and delicious. The naan was great and crispy. Never been so impressed. My husband and I go there regularly for "date night", but of course right now you can't "eat in" so we decided to pick up. We called ahead and our order was ready, exactly perfect, when we picked it up. Huge portions, and that lovely young man who brought our order out was all smiles. Totally amazing food prepared by world class chefs on the island. We have survived the virus by doing a weekly takeout. The younger waitress are finally trained to deliver the food to the door for a no touch pickup. Well done Spice Hut. Now if you could make us a Dosa too that would be great. read more

Some food great some so so. Carpy beer and service. When you order hot food your expectations are to get the whole dish to be spicier. Here it seems as if adding cayenne to the dish makes it hot and that's what what hot does here. Not sure I'll be back. read more

I love it!! I am incredibly picky about indian food but I visited Spice Hut recently with my family and I was not let down.I do not like mild curries! I was dying for a more authentic Indian cuisine experience on Vancouver Island and I found it. We ordered all the vegetarian dishes and each one was spiced differently. The spices used were fresh and fragrant and you could really tell there was a distinct difference between the spices used in each dish. I've been to many great (and terrible) Indian restaurants when I lived in Vancouver and this definitely compares to some of the best. It is spicy and delicious! The Spice Hut is located on the highway just across the street from the 7-11, and servers authentic Indian and even some Mediterranean food. Food comes in three choices of hotness, mild medium or hot. Everything in the place is tasty, though the price is high $$ and it's not uncommon for four people to end up with a bill that's nearly $100! They have the usual staples of Indian food such as naan, pakoras, samosas and just about any other appetizer you might want, as well as some really good curry dishes. They have their own private lot (which is too damn small in my opinion), as well as plenty of street parking. With many of their meals they serve gulab jabun (which is donut holes in some kind of sweet sauce) as a dessert, though I myself don't really care for it and pass them onto others. The butter chicken is probably my favorite item on the menu, although the curried beef is always a welcome bite as well. All in all it's a nice place, though personally I preferred the Greek place (George's Taverna) that used to be at this location! read more

We had dinner at the Spice Hut the other night and waited over an hour for our food. When we questioned the delay, we were told they had lots of deliveries that night. Shouldn't people who make the effort to go to a restaurant get priority over those who call in an order? The waitress was very good, but the food was quite unremarkable. I love this place for my pick up Indian cuisine. Our regular fare is chicken pakora, butter chicken, rice, and garlic naan. My kids are crazy about it and there are rarely leftovers. Just had dinner with friends here and while the food was tasty and the portions pretty good, we felt very rushed by our waitress. When the food arrived, it was nice n hot, tasty and filling but there was this frenetic energy about her even though the place was only half full Saturday night and there were two other waitresses running about as well. It kind felt like she wanted us to eat and go as quickly as possible. We ordered a lot of appetisers, as well as Naan and our main courses and our waitress kept coming back asking us if we wanted to order more food to which we kept responding no thanks. One of my friends was drinking wine to which the wine glasses just kept piling up on the table because the waitress would never take the empties away. When it came time to go and we had leftovers, we asked to have them to go, whereupon our waitress then deposited three styrofoam containers with lids on our table and left to run about the restuarant. Anyone who has eaten Indian food would ask, When I drop $150 for dinner the very least i can expect is that the waitress will take our leftover food from the table and put it in the containers for me in the kitchen and return them to me at my table. Spice Hut frankly, could do a lot better. They need to train their waitresses properly and teach them how to serve people so they do not feel like an inconvenience.
