The food is top notch. I especially love the Goat Korma. I've tried every Indian resteraunt for the South End to North Nanaimo and I challenge anyone to find better, and more authentic food in Nanaimo. My only negative is that they don't deliver so if you don't pick up your food, you're stuck with Door Dash or Skip the Dishes, two services I absolutely hate. read more

My dad takes the ferry here probably once a week, just to get this food (which is saying something with in itself). Huge portions, incredibly tasty, and the staff are super friendly. I had the pleasure of eating in today with the family, and the whole experience was awesome. Family Run, authentic taste, huge selection to pick from and JUST SO GOOD. Do yourself a favour, wherever you are and make the trip to Manvirro's. You will not be disappointed. Also, if you like dessert, get their Ras Mali..equally to die for. I posted a review a while back and gave them 4*. I need to update this and give them 5*. Whatever was keeping them from perfecting their food and service they have fixed and everything is spot on. Tonight we had both the chicken tika masala (medium heat) and butter chicken (mild). Both were delicious! The vegetarian samosas are fantastic. Fresh and tender inside and crisp on the outside. I must say something good about this place, that is service. At the time we were at the restaurant there were caucasian girls were serving customers. Very polite and always checking with us to anything else provide... Ordered Chicken Biriyani. Good size portion with more rice less chicken... It is not flavorful at all. It is quite possible that chef ran out species for the night as it was tasted like water down the meal. Chilly Paneer - Again not flavorful at all as it was water down. In fact too much salt. This place has so much high rating and quite misleading. I am not sure people's expectation on Indian food so low they give higher rating due to the portion size. read more

My wife and I went here for lunch, along with my two stepsons who had been here before and recommended it. I've been to a few Indian food places meant for Western palates before, and although I can't vouch for its "authenticity", it's certainly what I would consider great Indian food. We arrived at about 1 pm, and there was only one other person in the restaurant. Over the course of the hour we were there, three more people came in. The place is brand new--I had to add it manually to Yelp!--so I'm not surprised it's not full, but I certainly hope things pick up for them. I had 2 beef samosas which came with two chutney type sauces. The samosas were quite large, about the size of a tennis ball, and pyramid shaped, stuffed with ground beef and peas. Delicious. I was the only one of our party who decided to order an appetizer. That turned out to be a bit of an error in judgement. :) That's because the entree portions were extremely generous! I ordered a chicken biryani, and I think it must have been meant for sharing with a table, because it came with a large serving spoon and a yogurt-based sauce. It was excellent, but I couldn't finish it, and had to take home the leftovers. I also got naan bread with a spicy potato and pea filling, which again was a very generous portion and I ended up taking half of it home. (Can't remember if it was included with the meal, or whether I opted for adding it.) Everyone else was very pleased with their meals, and also ended up with doggie bags. My wife had the mango chicken, and the boys both had chicken vindaloo. Since the place is brand new, so is the decor, done up in tasteful blacks and reds with a peacock theme. Seating capacity is probably around 80, so if this place gets popular (and I hope it will), you may need to reserve. They have a take-out menu as well. Location may be a bit awkward. It's on a lot that's only really accessible from the southbound side of the Island Highway. That may have been a problem for businesses located here in the past, but I hope that won't be the case here. They definitely deserve to survive and thrive! I think we've found our favourite Indian restaurant in Nanaimo. Best of luck to Manvirro's - we'll be back. read more

Been there two time and picked up to go. Like the samosa and the veggie dishes I ordered (chick pees and cauliflower). Had tikka masala that wasn't bad either. Recommend things spicy. Unsure why no napkins when u pick up!!! Nan bread was typical / average. 4 stars cause it is the best place I have tried in Nanaimo or ladysmith for takeout. TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT AND PORTIONS I decided to order some food from Manvirros for my family. Asked if they do take out and how the portions are. They said amazing. 46 dollars later i came home with my takeout to notice both main dishes i ordered; mango chicken $11, Lamb Vindaloo $14. Came with no rice. Only a very small portion of meat in a HUGE amount of sauce. No rice. We ordered a 3 dollar side of rice. Which turned out to be one cup of cooked rice. We also got an order of calamari which came extremely rubbery. When i called the owner to say i was displeased qith my order he told me i couldnt get my money back or anything and hung up on me. I do not suggest this place for anyone. Terrible management and portions. read more

I don't normally write bad reviews but this place has the worst customer service. When I got in 3 men was sitting, 2 were the chefs and the other looked like the front manager. I ordered the lamb Biryani which was $20 and tip on top of that. I waited 10 mins for the chef's to start cooking, which was fine cos they were having their afternoon coffee. I waited outside for another 15 minutes. When I came back in the from manager was on his phone no mask and would not even acknowledge me. I asked him how much longer very politely and he proceeded to ignore me to talk to whoever was on the phone. When he handed me my food he was still on the phone without a mask. Not once did I see him sanitize his hand or wash his hands after he used the phone and dealt with the orders. The food was good but definitely not worth the $20. I usually get sauces with my Biryani but I got offered nothing, not even cutlery read more

Open for dinner on Christmas Day! Veggie samosas, big and tasty. Entrees come out family style perfect for sharing so be sure to order a variety. Chicken biryani came with not so much chicken but lots of rice piled high, Chicken (tikka I think) that was excellent but didn't come with anything but the chicken on a bed of cabbage, rice or naan are ordered separate with some items so ask what's included. I asked how hot is hot and the answer was "Canadian hot", so I ordered the hot. It had just a gentle heat to me but I cook with loads of green chiles. Next time I will ask for extra hot! Bonus points as even our fussy dining companion found something acceptable, and ordered dino chicken nuggets from the kids menu. read more

Dropped by for the new lunch buffet. The buffet was generously stocked with rice, naan, four vegetarian options, and three meat options. The 3 meat options included butter chicken, coconut beef, and a spicy chicken (forget the name). The vegetarian options included a mixed veg curry, a lentil/bean dish (dal machmi?), a spinach dish, and onion cake like things. They also had a basic salad, the crisp round wafers, and a desert that looks sorta like vanilla pudding with tapioca in it (I didn't try it). The butter chicken was quite lovely as was the lentil/bean dish. The spicy chicken was excellent and all dishes were made with high quality meat. The coconut beef was good but just not my thing. Service was pleasant and not overwhelming - essentially they visited enough to maintain you but not enough to annoy. Waters were refilled and my chai tea was a lovely complement to the meal. My only criticism would be that - at times - they were a bit slow on buffet upkeep. However, the food here is very good and the buffet price - $14.95 - is a steal given the quality of food. read more

Last time I went to Manvirro's I was disappointed by the overly sweet curries and weirdly gross papadum. This time, however, the papadum were normal and I only got dishes I knew I liked - pasanda and mattar paneer, both of which are savoury dishes and taste pretty good. Would recommend. Manvirro's isn't the best restaurant and the food probably isn't gonna wow you, but it seems to be the best indian restaurant in Nanaimo now that Gateway to India sucks. Unlike many restaurants, Manvirro's is open almost all day 7 days a week. They close for a while after the reasonably priced lunch buffet, but reopen after only an hour and a half. The buffet is great because you can try a bunch of different dishes that you otherwise might never order, but you'd better come with a big appetite to get your money's worth. read more

The restaurant was clean. We ordered food like chicken, goat, and much more and I must say the dishes were alright nothing fancy about it. They don't have the quantity of food if you are going with a large group. Moreover, the quality wasn't that much impressive. NOTE- If you are more than six people, they going to charge you 50 dollar extra, they won't tell you about that. When I got the bill, I was shocked to see where did I spent extra 50 dollars. I talked to the owner I guess, and he said "Oh, it is an Island rule", and I never heard of it. Early head ups if you want to go as the group sit separately and don't tell them. I've given Manvirro's a few chances, since it's so close to my home, but I have been disappointed every time. Both dine-in (not the buffet) and take out I found the food considerably bland for Indian cuisine. We are vegetarian diners and most of the vegetarian food was lacking in punch. We moved here from Vancouver and have had Indian food many times, and this does not compare to authentic cuisine at all. The biryani was very overcooked and the dal makhani tasted more like a bland american chili than a curry. When I dined in I was served a flaming hot galub jamun with no warning and promptly burnt my palette. On top of everything this place has very bad value, the food is overpriced. I'd be willing to settle for food-court quality indian food if it was at least priced that way. High end prices, low quality food, very disappointing & a total waste of money. read more

After Amrikko's closed in Nanaimo, my friend and I tried going to Manvirros because we heard it was run by the same owner. It's been okay whenever we go, although the food and service were nothing to rave about. The last time we went there we were one of maybe 6-8 tables in the restaurant, and the service was absolutely terrible. It was as if none of the employees had been trained or shown how to serve in a restaurant before. I kid you not, we had about 4-5 different servers come up to our table at least 20 times throughout the evening. We got asked "how's your food?" and "more water?" over and over again, literally back to back. The servers were incredibly awkward too... it was uncomfortable when they would walk up to our table (after about 4 other servers had done the same thing no more than 2 minutes ago) and then they would not say anything and walk away all embarrassed as if we could not see them. As someone who has been serving for over 5 years, there is a certain presence that you need to have when serving customers. It contributes to the overall experience of the customer's visit, and when you're constantly made to feel uncomfortable because these awkward, untrained, unconfident servers do not know how to do their job.... It just ruins the entire atmosphere. The food was subpar at best among only asking half of our table if they wanted drinks, constantly badgering the table, bringing the wrong food to the wrong people, and then not listening to anything we said or asked for. The food was not very good at all actually, and one of our friends who is East Indian was absolutely appalled. He took one bite of his chicken wing appetizer and said it was not edible, and it looked pretty gross to be honest. The multiple servers we had seemed to clearly have a language barrier, and they barely understood anything any of us said or asked for. When we asked her to split up the bills, she nodded her head and then just brought over an unsplit bill. I can handle people that are still learning English (although serving customers is neither the time nor place to be doing that), but don't nod and say "yes" when you clearly do not understand what we are saying. That just makes it rude, disrespectful, and aggravating. The worst part of the entire evening was when I had to get up and go to the bar where the till was to speak to the manager about splitting up our bill. He barely acknowledged me and when I asked him to split it up he shoved a pen in my face and told me to separate it myself. I felt like I was working at this restaurant as a server, as he was being extremely rude, disrespectful, and aggressive with me. Last time I checked, it was not my job to separate bills, especially since I was a PAYING customer. I put different symbols by each item as there were 3 bills we wanted it separated into, and he aggressively yells "No! No! Only mark one!!" I explained for the third or fourth time that we wanted 3 separate bills, and then I had to continuously tell him what to type into the till while he made the bills. I don't even know what the purpose of me having to split up my own bill was when he ended up just typing into the till anyway without looking at it. On top of that, he still incorrectly separated them and I had to keep correcting him after clearly stating which item was on each bill. I was probably standing there for 10 minutes and then he hands me a tray for me to bring my own bill back to my table for all of my friends. It was probably one of the worst serving experiences of my life, and the food was not good. The audacity this man had to speak to me in such a disrespectful way shows how little this restaurant values its customers. read more
