Very poor experience. Cannot recommend. Went into the restaurant at 6.30pm this evening and asked…read morefor a table for four. My wife and my 5 and 3 yr old daughter both well behaved and well dressed. I am a partner at a city law firm and my kids routinely eat out. The waiter looked us up and down and (presumably after deciding that he did not like the look of us) said they were fully booked. The restaurant was practically empty (about 4 tables in use). We were finally offered a table out the back which was the only table which had not been laid. We were told that all the other tables were booked for within the next 30 minutes to 1 hour. The table was poorly located and the staff extremely unfriendly. We left the restaurant as we did not wish to eat at the worst table in it nor frankly give our custom to such an undeserving bunch (and ate at a nice pub 100 yds up the road The Lock and Barrel). After a very nice meal at the Lock and Barrel we walked past the Last Viceroy Of India restaurant to see if (as we had been told) it was indeed full. It was not. in fact about a third of the tables remained empty. I went back into the restaurant that I would leave them a very poor review on Qype for lying that they had no tables. The staff response was to smirk. I've given it one star but frankly it doesn't even deserve that. Also found this press article on the place. I think it speaks for itself. http://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/4819429.Illegal_immigrant_hid_on_roof_of_Frinton_curry_house/

Genuinely the best Indian food I've ever had in my life. We just ordered a bunch of stuff, from…read moresamosas and butter chicken to kabab and broccoli salad. Absolutely nothing we didn't love! Service was also fantastic! I noticed they're super intentional about allergies and brought out an entire tablet for my friend to cross-reference with the menu.

We walked into a space that felt different from a typical Indian dining experience because of the attention to detail in the décor, lighting, and overall atmosphere. The room had a classic yet lively feel, with a balance between old-world charm and a more upscale restaurant setting that made it feel like a place we could enjoy for both a casual meal or a special occasion. The food is the biggest reason to visit, with a menu that focuses on bold flavors and a mix of traditional dishes and modern interpretations. We ordered a few items and found the Chicken Ruby one of the standout dishes, with tender chicken and a rich, flavorful sauce that had a good balance of spices without becoming overwhelming. The Black Daal is another signature item and is worth trying because of its slow-cooked texture and deep flavor, with a comforting quality that paired well with the naan and other breads from the menu. Beyond the more well-known dishes, Dishoom has a variety of smaller plates that made it easy to try different flavors. The Gunpowder Potatoes and Okra Fries were great options if we wanted something to share, while dishes like lamb chops, biryani, and paneer provided more variety depending on our preferences. The menu had enough options for both people looking for familiar Indian dishes and those wanting to explore something different. The drinks are also an important part of the experience, especially the chai. The restaurant's chai has become one of its most recognizable items and fit well with the café-inspired concept. Having a warm drink alongside the food added to the overall atmosphere and made the meal feel more complete rather than just focused on the main dishes. One thing to keep in mind is that Dishoom can get very busy, especially during peak dinner hours. Reservations are helpful when available, but the restaurant also manages walk-ins with a queue system. If we did have to wait, the complimentary chai while waiting was a nice touch and made the process feel less inconvenient. The Covent Garden location was also in a convenient area for exploring nearby attractions before or after our meal. The team moved through the room with efficiency, and the pacing of the meal kept the experience smooth without feeling rushed. Overall, Dishoom Covent Garden is one of the most memorable Indian dining experiences in London. The combination of flavorful food, unique atmosphere, and thoughtful service makes it stand out from a standard Indian restaurant. Between the signature dishes, café-inspired design, and welcoming environment, it is a place we would recommend adding to a London itinerary, especially for anyone looking to experience Indian cuisine in a different way.
