The initial exam caused nerve pain. I have herniated discs, a spinal fracture, stenosis and arthritis. The positions for a-rays and testing started nerve pain that I haven't had for most of year. I had seen Dr. Toby for several years and then in December 2024. I got an appointment with a PA. He recommended a procedure and said it was easy- didn't specify, but said it was like getting novacaine in the Dentist's office, and the Doctor would administer it. I know I should have asked exactly what it was I was going to have, but I didn't as he made it sound like two quick little shots. When I got to the appointment, Dr. Toby explained what it was, it was a nerve block. He was administering it but it took so long that I started getting faint and had to stop. A wheel chair was brought into the procedure room to bring me to an examining room, and my blood pressure was so low I had to lie down. After 20 minutes I was a bit better but was left alone in the room. The doctor never came into the room to see how I was which was the most disappointing. I ended up leaving on my own. Spine West is great at giving steroid shots as they are experienced and willing to listen to patients (can't say that for everywhere in Boulder esp if spinal surgeons are part of the clinic). Because of Spine West, I was able to buy time and not pursue surgery. Overall, my issue was resolved by Sound Clinic in Denver. They used prolotherapy on my sacrum area and it worked literally over night. I went from not being able to walk to walking as long as I'd like. I was not able to do yoga for over a year and within days was doing yoga again. The reason this worked for me is that it narrowed down the fact my issues had come from a collapsed left arch, which in turn created a crooked sacrum and also led to disc herniation issues. I believe the steroid shots were diagnostic in figuring out the sacrum was the cause as I had asked for the S1 nerve root to be shot with cortisone and this provided enough relief for me to pursue the next step. read more

I had excruciating hip pain and went to Spine West to see Dr. Meadows. The staff at the office was very professional and courteous when I made my appointment and in the office. Dr. Meadows was very thorough on my hip examination and ordered the proper diagnostic tests. When she received the test back, she was even kind enough to leave me a message explaining the results. I really appreciated her taking the time out of her busy schedule to do this. Dr. Meadows has found a way to to make you feel important as a patient and this is truly a gift in todays insurance driven medical world. I highly recommend this practice and Dr. Meadows. read more

I saw Sara Meadows originally who after exploratory injections referred me to Dr Gronseth for further treatment. I then had an ablation done on my spine by Dr Gronseth, also at Spine West. My family physician referred me to Vaheed at Spine West because of back problems a couple of years ago. They tried several things including shots in my back and ultimately told me I was a candidate for surgery. I had the surgery in May 2018 and have recently started having back pain again. Went back to Vaheed and he recommended more shots in my back. The first one didn't help, so they tried a slightly different location on my back for a second one. This one seems to have worked because the pain has diminished considerably. I have found them to be always on schedule, and very good at listening to my problems. I feel they go the extra mile to help, so I understand why our family doctor recommends them and specifically Vaheed. I would certainly recommend Spine West to my friends. read more

Whoa, this place has all the cool gadgets. A pulse monitor so small it could double as a bag clip, body temperature probes, electrodes and needles with microphones. Heck, even a "reverse Snuggie" to wear. Well, it's all cool and awesome until some doctor wants to stick all these things in you and then turn up the electricity. Especially when you hear, "This may be a little uncomfortable." As it turns out, I didn't feel any discomfort at all...not a prick, not a jolt. Thank goodness I was here to support my wife and she was the one getting panicked, poked, prodded. Yes, she was a little apprehensive for these series of test, but the professionals at Spine West, didn't even make her wait until she filled out all the necessary forms. They could see she was nervous, so they (get this) got her in her appointment early. She was put at ease by Jessica, had the entire procedure explained and assisted her with her paperwork and gave her a body warmer. When Dr. Toby came in, he explained everything, tried his best to put my wife at ease. She is a trooper. She was calm and didn't feel any discomfort, no pain and took to the needles and electrical shocks like ketchup to a white blouse. His professionalism, taking his time, comforting way and explanations helped her relax. Plus, we never really ever smelled her arm smoking. read more

Most of my friends have been to Spinewest. I had an epidural cortisone by Dr Gale. It seems to have a worked somewhat but not as much as I had hoped. He seems competent but not as experienced as Dr Meadows who did my nerve testing and was wonderfully helpful with some posture and exercise ideas. read more

If you're hoping to see an MD at Spine West, you won't; they are stacked with PA's. I was a patient of one such PA - Dr Laura Boucher - and under her care since 2020. She knew I was on antidepressants, that my dosage had recently increased, and prescribed Gabapentin anyway. She never - not once - cautioned me that the side effects include depression and suicidal ideations. It did just that to me. She did not take my debilitating pain the least bit seriously, in fact never conducted a thorough exam of me, and treated me like a junkie needing a fix. Additionally, it took weeks to get an MRI because she did not convey the severity of my situation to my insurance company. I spoke with the office manager who was clearly only interested in protecting Dr Boucher's integrity, and did not take her negligence nor my mistreatment seriously. I strongly caution against putting your care in the hands of this clinic. read more

My experience with Spine West was quite good. I like that they're very organized and the way they do the check in for appointments (I did have one long wait, but the other times it wasn't bad). I felt very listened to, and it seemed they were also doing a good job of trying to order the correct images, not only for my health but for insurance. I'd recommend them. read more

Love Spine West and Dr Gronseth! I have been going to Spine west for about 6 years and have had my low back and neck treated by Dr Gronseth and the PA Vaheed. Both are super knowledgeable and have been able to help control my neck and back (from arthritis), and have performed 2 nerve ablation treatments on my back which have both have been successful, and are going to perform a second round in a few weeks. The front desk staff is also exemplary - especially Meg who helped me through lots of complex insurance approvals and lots of scheduling and always has a positive and cheerful attitude. Spine West has been very good to me. I especially like Vaheed. People seem concerned seeing a PA as opposed to a "Real Doctor" (Yelp review sentiments, not mine) but it has been my experience that Vaheed is one of the more intuitive and thorough people in the medical field I have ever come across and as soon as you need the "Real Doctor", one is quickly brought into the fold. I appreciate their honesty with respect to my conditions and what can realistically be expected from treatment. read more

I followed my Physical Therapist when she moved to work here at Spine West. Everything was fine until the first bill... they charged my insurance and on top of it they wanted me to pay over $100 per visit which it was ridiculous since I only payed $70 for my sessions before. I went and talked to the people in charge of billing and they reduce the price. They were getting money from my insurance and I still had to pay about the same $70 with my copay at Spine west. I ususally payed the bill when I was there for therapy but I stopped going and got a bill mailed to me... I tried to pay it by calling the office a few times at different day times and no one answer... left many messages and it resulted on them sending it to a bill collector. I am not comfortable sending my credit card info or checks in the mail so usually pay them online or call but they did not have the option to pay it online :( I took care of the bill but it was very annoying that they damage my credit temporarily. read more

Someone recommended Spine West to me after a soft tissue injury, because they're the only place in town with an ultrasound machine. It's a team of doctors, a PA, and a PT. I mostly dealt with the PA, who has an excellent bedside manner and was thorough in his investigation of the injury. When said ultrasound did not uncover any visible damage, I visited their PT to try to rehab my injury. The PT was very knowledgeable and gave me excellent exercises. Because of what the injury turned out to be, I ended up needing surgery. Every surgeon I talked to said that the course of action that Spine West had recommended was the right protocol for this kind of injury. So I feel like my treatment was right on the money, even though I only saw a "real" MD at Spine West for a few minutes. Based on my experience, I would say that they know what they're doing, and would recommend them for a sports injury. read more

Saw Dr. Ward after an auto accident where I sustained broken ribs, torn shoulder muscles etc. He was very thorough in evaluating and describing the injuries and MRI and helpful in developing a long term treatment plan. Online patient portal made communication and refills easy. Billing was very reasonable. Far less than expected. No complaints so far... Highly recommend. read more
