I have been to Gypsy Treasure several times in the past, but this was my first visit since they have moved to the Grossmont Center location (apparently about five years ago). I came in about 5 days before Halloween, primarily in search of makeup and a crown for my Day of the Dead festival look. When I walked in, the place was pretty hopping. However, I was quickly greeted at the makeup counter and walked through the white face paint options, and given information about some of the various color palettes. After some conversation and deliberation, I chose a white water-based face paint and a couple of color palettes. One was glow-in-the-dark. I then asked about flower crowns, and was surprised to find that they only had one. It was one of those cheesy costume kits that came with skeleton hand gloves and skull earrings, neither of which I wanted. However, the price was pretty inexpensive, so I purchased it just for the crown. I looked around for a hat for my husband's costume, but couldn't find exactly what he wanted, though they had some pretty unique hats. Gypsy Treasure has a large selection of costumes for rent, which appeared to be of much higher quality than the costumes for sale. I saw several cute vintage dresses and hats for women, as well as some pretty elaborate costumes. I did feel that several of the costume items in the front of the store were the same quality you would get from any Halloween store. However, I would definitely return for makeup, or if I had costume needs outside of the Halloween season.

Chris gave me suggestions (a boa) instead of a shawl. The black gloves are stretchy so one size fits all. Highly recommend Gipsy Treasure for fancy dress parties or Halloween.

Desperate times call for desperate measures! This is usually my go-to stop for a last minute…read moreHalloween costume. This year I had to come up with a Dia de Los Muertos themed costume. After scavenging through my closet, I couldn't come up with anything creative so to 'Party City' I went. Location/Ambiance/Items: -Off the 15 freeway in Carmel Mountain -Private Parking and near other stores such as BevMo. -The store is spacious and well-maintained. -Not many costumes left on display since it was post-Halloween, but I did snag a few items that were Dia de los Muertos themed: a black lace tie-on bustle, floral sugar skull masquerade mask, and a sugar skull designed long-sleeve shirt. I got lucky with their slim pickings, but my wallet was not so lucky. Prices seemed to be much higher compared to their online store. Wack! -They also have other miscellaneous party supplies: balloons, party favors, napkins, decorations for special events/occasions, tableware, serveware, and accessories. Customer service: Return policy is lame: Return 7 days prior to holiday. Cashier did not seem friendly nor informed me of the exchange policy, which is wack, because I don't have issues like this with other stores like Target. As long as it's unused and still in it's original packaging I don't see why I can't return items. Oh well lesson learned. If you're on a budget, I recommend checking the 99 Cents store or bargain outlets first. Don't procrastinate like I did.

All that convenience comes at price, of course. The shopping plaza where this store is located crams in quite a few stores with little parking and space, which almost always makes it challenging to come here. I have unfortunately seen so many near misses and fender benders in this plaza over the years. I have bought many a child costume here, party supplies, and more balloons than I can count on both hands. Needed to pick up some new Halloween decor and after visiting several stores I made my way here and found what I wanted since I Cannot be without all the trappings of Halloween as it seems it is "on" this year (fingers crossed). Be safe. Be spooky.

It wasn't enforced upon walk in but I wanted to respect the business. I was really nervous putting my backpack in there as it is right in front of the door and anyone could just grab and go. That made me uneasy while shopping and it made me breeze through the store quicker than I had liked and I didn't get a chance to fully look. So right away one tip I would have for management is to put that bin behind the counter to ensure safety. In regard to the selection, this place is extremely eclectic and had vintage costume pieces as well as newer. There were novelty items, even some bondage costumes, period costumes, and just a lot of really fun pieces. The prices were right on point and didn't feel too costly. They have two dressing rooms that had really cute themes. For a small store, there were a lot of different rooms and nooks. I was pleasantly surprised. I would definitely go back. I just wouldn't bring a backpack or big bag that day.
