Be soothed by soft oaks and mind gratifying tactics: Spirit Urban Spa is a destiny for all who enter! The aesthetics alone promise so much more than the look of modern-minimalism-- an look that deems popular amongst the beauty industry. Besides an instant calming, customers are provided service with an ease. Friendly, compliant and well-balanced staffers work hard to maintain a consistent energy flow, and that translates into the utmost professionalism. I popped in with a gift certificate recently for a "Get Fresh Facial", and always a stickler for skin care, was fairly pumped about it. The spa offers a wide range of facials, from anti-aging to specific skin conditions, it seems there is something for everyone. I also noted a elements of holistic practice here- not exclusively- but organic tactics definitely play a role. My facial was 60 minutes and pure heaven- a therapeutic experience to say the least. Regularly priced at $80, I'd say its certainly a worthy indulgence, as the atmospheric effect, expertise, and actual service were above and beyond. I'd be curious to check out other services here, although my day-to-day budget isn't in a place for complete spa freedom. For those looking for a lift and the full shabang, Spirit Spa is a step into serenity.

While it might be a little pricier than some other spas in the city, Spirit Spa knows what's what when it comes to relaxation, beauty, and pampering. Their staff always seem legitimately happy to see you and they really are the best of the best at whatever it is that they do - hair, massage, waxings, manicures, pedicures, or whatever else you save for those special 'me' days. The spa is broken up into distinct areas for each service too so that while you're getting your nails done with the girls, you don't have to worry about chatting away since the massage-goers are kept off to their own personal quiet-zone. It's a nice touch that makes for a more relaxing experience all round. I've been in for countless massages that have all been complete heaven and once for the MANLY MAN pedicure (it's called something butch, I just can't remember what). It was a completely new experience for me so I was a little nervous but I didn't feel out of place at all. Just another dude getting his heels sanded down - no big deal. Or maybe that's just what I kept running through my head. Also? Cucumber water. I discovered it here and can't get enough. It's admittedly quite easy to keep me happy...

Was disappointed with how my hair turned out, however the salon management reached out to me and made it right. Thank you, guys!

I met with Christine, one of the spa's most experienced estiticians, and she talked me through the process.

Last month I realized I needed a haircut more then I have ever needed a haircut in my entire life…read more My hair had not been trimmed in several months, I had 6-month old half-grown out colour that had faded to the max, and I was *thisclose* to taking the razor to the whole thing ala. Britney. I am particular about my hair and about it looking good so I don't like to trust it to just anyone. Seeing as my hairstylist I have had since BIRTH is in Cole Harbour, I now live in the North end of Halifax with no car, and she is extremely hard to get an appointment with anyway, I decided it was high time to find a place in my own hood. I had noticed Flaunt salon open up a few months before (it opened mid-October 2010) because I walk by the old house it's located in every day after work (you can't miss that big, round window in the front!). It looked like a nice, fun place, plus, you can't beat a 5 minute walk from my apartment. So, I thought I would give it a try. Well, seriously I think I had the best haircut of my LIFE that day. Now, I really really needed a haircut so to be honest, ANY change to my style would probably have made me completely over-the-moon, but it was more than that. I was randomly paired up with Laurel and she was lovely - very friendly with a sunny personality - so I felt in good hands right from the beginning. I brought a picture to give her an idea of the kind of look I wanted and she made it look exactly like that! She gave me a great asymmetrical bob style with tons of layers, but kept it long enough that I could still pull at least the front back - you know, she actually LISTENED to me (which doesn't always happen at salons, am I right, other high-maintainence hair people?). The salon itself is small (I think only 5 chairs) and so it's quiet but also encourages conversation amongst patrons. There is an air of exclusivity to it - like you are at a place that requires you to make an appointment 6 months in advance and where you could easily shell out $200 for a cut. Now, don't get me wrong, this place is a tad pricey - I was actually surprised when she told me the total at the end of my appointment and it came to $57 before tip (so almost $70 total - eeps). However, to me it was worth it because she did a great job with my cut. Also, I don't necessarily mind paying a bit more money for the convenience and experienced stylists. Unfortunately I can't speak for how much a colour or other treatments would cost but I imagine they are not cheap either. One thing that I also found a tad odd was that they don't take credit cards (only debit, cash or cheque) so those of you on a budget and who like your plastic, be forewarned. Also keep in mind that they have more limited hours than other salons (the latest they are open is 8pm and that's only one or two nights a week I think...the other nights I believe it is 6pm) and they are limiting their hours even more over the summer, so book at least a week ahead. One thing is for sure about this place - you will definitely walk out of here with something to Flaunt!

Orla was great to discuss what I was looking for with my blow out. She "got me" and made awesome suggestions of what we could do. Hoping I'd have a similar experience here I booked an appointment. It seems difficult to get an appointment here on the weekends, so I was super excited when she told me there were spots open. I came in at 7 on a Saturday and gave the girl doing my hair a very simple instruction: I want curls but curls tend to fall out really easily with my hair. This is what I tell most of the stylists who do my hair and it seems to work well. She decided to do round brush curls initially. Which didn't work very well and was kind of painful as she had to de-tangle my hair multiple times, and there wasn't much curl in the end. She then asked if I wanted more curls in it. I said yes and she put some curling wand curls in it. It looked ok. It was $50 with a tip. Ouch... My hair fell out 10 minutes later and I ended up curling it myself and doing a much better job.
