For a small store in a small town I was blown away by the vast selection of spirits and liqueurs on their shelves. In addition to all the expected domestic and imported brands, there were many top shelf spirits and unique European liqueurs that I thought might only be available at one of those big box beverage emporiums. They also have an impressive selection of spirits from local and regional distilleries. And on top of all that--I thought their prices were as good as, or in some cases lower, than what I usually pay at the local liquor store where I live. I'll be shopping here again when I'm in the area. (BTW--I only shopped for whiskey, gin, and an Italian aperitif so I didn't check out their wine inventory. I'll amend my review if I shop for wine next time.) read more

What i find most wonderful about this store, is that they get items that cannot be found anywhere else! Ive searched high and low for a special whiskey that wouldn't be ordered by other estabs, only to discover these guys had it all along. One of my favorite liquor stores in the great state of New York, and I've seen more than my share (I'm in spirits sales & education). What a selection! Plenty of standard fare, sure, and a delightful range of lowbrow, tongue-in-cheek crowdpleasers, but that's alongside some of the most incredible, esoteric, geeky spirits I've seen together under one roof. Fascinating conversation pieces. The store is remarkable. Best of all, the passion, humor, curiosity, and knowledge of the staff more than do justice to that range of booze. They can leap in a heartbeat from playful banter and scandlous jokes, to detailed technical breakdowns of the wines and spirits they carry. It's great fun. They also collaborate with some well known distillers and brands to create unique batches that are only available from Spirits of Cairo. The two fools who bought this place from the old man who owned it for decades apparently thought they could convert it into some kind of upscale, urban "spirits" shop in the rural mountains of nowhere, complete with prices like those in the big city. Well, the sad reality is that their plan never got off the ground. This place still remains just the same old, moldy-smelling, small town hooch hut it's always been, serving local winos and underage young people who, for lack of any other liquor stores within 15 miles, are forced to buy their booze here. And when I say "young people", I do mean "young": The money-hungry owners are still brushing off their tarnished reputation from a very well-publicized incident in the news where they got into major legal trouble for selling alcohol to minors. The store itself carries nothing out of the ordinary, yet their prices are ridiculously high! The two snippy owners are not the least bit helpful at offering suggestions, instead pushing whatever bottle is collecting dust because it's priced so high that it would have no other way of selling, since the locals in this economically depressed area just don't buy overprice booze. Keep driving a few more miles until you get to the town of Catskill, and buy your alcohol at the variety of competitively-priced shops there instead. read more

This new business is a bright light for quality product in small town. The good thing is it is not a big chain store that take money out of the town. The new owners are looking to bring high quality with low artificial ingredients. I like the fact that you are greeted with a smile and friendly people. I wish they had an extra star to rate Spirits of Cairo. This is the best liquor store I have ever seen--a friend told me "it's a destination!" and she was right! Sometimes I go in and make a purchase more for the added pleasure of saying hello. I ADORE THE OWNERS and the nice people who work for them. It's where I have encountered friendly customers, too. Vendors apparently love it, too, for there is always some interesting tasting or special being presented. Is there ANYTHING they don't carry? If they don't have it, they'll get it for you. Love, love, love this store and its marvelous owners. It's always lively, full of great people who make small-town life the joy it is. read more

This is a really interesting liquor store with an eclectic selection of wines and spirits. The staff are super-knowledgeable and friendly, while the prices are reasonable. It's fun to wander through and discover a new bottle of wine, an artisanal bourbon or a forgotten favorite. Shopped here for years and now they say they don't accept American Express. I walked out and went to another liquor store. I purchased the same thing and I saved $3.00 because the prices were lower. I will never enter this store again. I'm shocked they would lose a loyal customer because they are too cheap to pay an extra 1% fee. read more

I don't know how this liquor store only has 3.5 stars it is literally the best store around ! Not only in Cairo but so far best liquor store I've been to in all of New York State. All of the most exquisite liquors I can't get anywhere else, such knowledgeable staff - it's an experience not just a store. They are amazing and I have to go every time I'm in town. We've been to MANY liquor stores in NY and must say when we come up to Cairo this is always our first stop. It's not just a liquor store it's a place to talk to knowledgeable people and try things we haven't had before. The owners know us when we walk in and it is very comfortable.
