Cosy Club - It's really grand in Cosy Club, the site of an old bank.

We first entered the grand old bank that is now Cosy Club last week for breakfast and promised…read moreourselves that we would return for dinner, so this evening I had tapas (£11.50 for three small dishes) that consisted of small Cumberland sausages, chorizo and fish. The other dish was a New York steak ciabatta (with amazing chips). We ordered wine and washed the tasty meal down before following it up with sticky toffee pudding and a decidedly evil peanut butter cheesecake (which comes in a glass). We like it here. It's grand and light, and the food is good and reasonably priced. What would we change? We would upgrade the condiments, so that the ketchup is better, and that authentic maple syrup is used on our pancakes rather than golden syrup, which is thick and doesn't taste of much. We would also have preferred our meals a bit hotter, as we felt like we had to wolf it down before it got cold. But these are small niggles that can be easily fixed, and probably will be at some point if the professionalism of the staff is anything to go by. They're friendly, not over-familiar, not too pushy, and they seem to want to go out of their way to make sure you enjoy Cosy Club. The wine list is short, but will hopefully improve in time. As of writing, it's only been open a couple of weeks. I look forward to being able to buy Champagne by the glass!

It felt like I was going to something historical and therefore it would be good but instead I got old and falling apart. I HATE leaving bad reviews but we ordered, with a very nice and helpful employee two drinks and an avocado/bacon sandwich and then walked upstairs to the seating area. The stairwell has seen better days and we were the only customers around 10ish in the morning. That should have been my first clue things weren't going to be ok. The iced latte my partner got was all milk and the flavor didn't want to mix so it just settled on the bottom. The espresso shots must not have pulled well because they were weak. My flat white was ok ish. Literally nothing to recall but I guess I can't complain since I can't recall anything special. My avocado/bacon sandwich was so bad I actually took one bite and threw it out. The avocado was from a bag, the bread was a standard burger bun and the bacon was just bacon. Like you can't call a sandwich brioche if you use a burger bun that if I was stateside I would buy at Walmart.

At BTP, you will find the most sandwich and full-bodied semi-sweet pancakes you will ever eat in your life. Flavoured with a cascade of maple syrup, they will be the perfect match for the fried bacon with which they are served. Tired of avocado toast - let's face it, I can do it myself at home, without spending nine effing pounds - I wanted to try the famous eggs Benedict. Accompanied by two slices of sourdough toast bread and hollandaise sauce they were fire! I also wanted to add some bacon just to keep it light... because why not?! I was expecting classic American bacon in thin, crunchy and super scorched strips, but I think this is the English version: thick and almost rounded slices, more like a slice of meat, but still delicious af. The meat was tender and cooked evenly, nicely browned at the edges.

The menu includes a vegan dish in every category. Along with veggie options, and meat too! I ordered the vegan veggie breakfast for under £7. My partner ordered the vegan banh mi. After we ordered we headed outside to their beautiful outdoor garden. They claim to have the largest on park street. There was a lot of seating in the sun and the shade. Our food came out in a timely matter and was absolutely delicious. They veggie breakfast was so tasty! The only thing I'd change would be to add a vegan sausage or avocado in place of the missing egg from the standard veggie breakfast. The banh mi was perfect as is! We finished our food and soaked up some son. Everything about our experience was enjoyable and we will definitely be returning!

Maybe I've been spending too much time with my dog... I didn't go for it I'm afraid to report, I will try to be braver next time. With variety and quality this place ain't cheap despite its market location but definitely worth heading for. With a few other stalls in St Nicks offering veg and meat, I'm thinking now you can do a quality food shop here now in one place and finally get a knife into that evil Tesco store at the top of Wine Street.
