This is our fourth year coming to Sportsmens lodge. We stay in the brand-new villas that they have built in the last few years. These are more like condos than cabins. Our particular unit had a two bedroom and two bathrooms. Both of the bathrooms were like master bathrooms because they were attached the bedrooms. One bedroom had two double beds and the other bedroom has a queen bed and a set of bunkbeds. The living room had a couch that folds out into a bed it was more of a futon style. The cabin had a full kitchen and awesome view of the lake. We stopped down and ate at the lodge twice the food was good the prices may be a little bit high however. If you're heading to Lake of the Woods I would recommend staying at Sportsmens lodge. The boat slips are new and the location is great. It is right on rainy river so you have access to the river and the Biglake if you get fish for some reason on the Biglake you could easily fish the river for miles and miles.

    Hot turkey sandwich dinner.

The moment I stepped in I was not greeted but rather for a minute just standing waiting to be seated. The waitress stared at me and said "what do you want?" After seating me it took her 35 minutes to take my order. I was about to leave when she finally came and she said "sorry I forgot about you!" I ordered the dinner special which was hot turkey sandwich. Also a side of walleye bites as this is walleye capital. When I got my plate I was extremely happy that it wasn't boxed mashed potatoes and it actually tasted amazing. The turkey sandwich was alright and the stuffing was crunchy. The walleye bites looked so delicious but was really surprised at how bad they tasted. The fish was watery and lacked taste as if it was previously frozen and thawed and the breading wasn't spiced. Very disappointed! Would absolutely not go back!

We were here for 3 nights, 4 days, with 2 days fishing package. Fishing was slow, really had to work for the fish.

The food was good except for the broiled walleye dinners. It came served in a plate of water....I did not order boiled fish! It was terrable!! You would think that their signature dish would be fisk.....But no!!

Came in for a late night dinner. They were already preparing for the next day, but still offered me a nice place in the restaurant for having dinner. I got super service from a very attentive waitress. The first time in my life I drank Grain Belt beer. I looked it up in the Internet and I read this is the best cheap American beer made only with water, malt, hops and yeast. In this area the Walleye is very famous and I ordered it as my dinner. The fish was fresh, the taste was good and I enjoyed my stay at the Sportsman Lodge. Probably one of the best possibilities around Baudette for having food.

Food was good but prices a little high even for the resort area. Nice atmosphere and great view of the river.

The accommodations are perfect for a fishing resort. They are clean, comfortable and include all the essentials you need for your stay. The grounds are also well maintained and in great shape. The staff is friendly, and efficient, willing to help with anything you need. The boats are very well maintained, clean and comfortable.. The fishing guides are all top notch! The are extremely knowledgeable , very friendly and helpful. They insure that everyone is well taken care of and happy. They try to insure that enough fish are caught so that everyone goes home with their limit. I believe the meal plan is the best way to enjoy your time. No cooking or cleaning and the meals served are terrific! Breakfast starts with a breakfast buffet that has all of the breakfast food you can want, and all very tasty. Lunch on the boat includes either a shore lunch made from the fish you just caught, or sandwiches on the boat which are fresh, generous in size and very tasty. All lunches also include some sort of home baked goody for dessert . For dinner, check out their on line menu. You can have everything for sandwiches to steaks as part of the package. I have not eaten this well in quite awhile. The restaurant staff is also very friendly, accommodating and efficient. I can't wait to return again!!!

The menu has not changed in the years I have been coming here. They have a couple vegetarian options (grilled cheese on kids menu, cheese pizza) and no vegan options. The salad bar is lackluster; my vegetarian friend took one look and said "Uh no thanks" which was my thought too when I looked at it previously. The dining room and bar areas are nice and clean, bathrooms are clean and you can see into the kitchen which also looks clean. The food is good, not amazing. The service in the bar and dining room is great and friendly. The views are great from the bar and dining room looking at the Rainy River. They have a nice patio to enjoy when the weather and bugs are cooperating.

The video shows interior of a 2 person sleeper with beds down upon arrival. Was warm and holes were ready. Bedding was not clean (bodily fluids smeared on fitted sheet near garbage can) and garbage can had garbage in it (paper towels and a pop bottle). Consider bringing your own fitted sheets. Overnight winds caused bridge to be unstable and a vehicle had gone through 3am Saturday morning, and received a visit early Saturday morning telling us to shelter in place until someone physically came to tell us it was safe. No one stopped by or called to check on us until Sunday morning to plow us out. The outhouse was completely full by Saturday night and no one changed it out all weekend. Bring paper towels with you to cover the mound. Rented a generator but only had gas enough for 8 hours. Couldn't get back in to get more gas. Lucky to have brought enough water and snacks, including lots of beef jerky, to last us the weekend. Brought a jackery which came in handy to charge phones 2nd night. Word of advice that they didn't tell us, if renting a generator, bring a gas can and extension cord. Bring a power strip and extra power banks. If you have your own poop bucket, consider bringing it with plenty of bags and TP. Plan to be stranded for a few days, just in case of blizzard conditions. Shack we were in was very drafty with the high winds and there was a 2 inch gap above the door. The windows were also very drafty. We had two large bath towels with us and hung one over the window which helped a lot and stuffed the other in the gap above the door that helped. Then the propane fumes built up since there was no air vent. There was a small propane cooktop as seen in the video. The propane lights added warmth. Caught and kept 7 walleyes 15-16.5", one really small walleye was thrown back, and kept one nice size perch during the 2 days and 2 nights lines were down. Would have liked to make it in to eat at the bar but that never happened.

Walleye dinner was great however lots of little bones. Great homemade tar tar sauce. Salad was just…read moreromaine, 4 croutons, tiny bit of cheese. Wild rice soup was awesome! Service was good.
