Arrived on a Friday just after noon. The staff was friendly and gave us a deal on minnows and we were escorted out to our sleeper. The video shows interior of a 2 person sleeper with beds down upon arrival. Was warm and holes were ready. Bedding was not clean (bodily fluids smeared on fitted sheet near garbage can) and garbage can had garbage in it (paper towels and a pop bottle). Consider bringing your own fitted sheets. Overnight winds caused bridge to be unstable and a vehicle had gone through 3am Saturday morning, and received a visit early Saturday morning telling us to shelter in place until someone physically came to tell us it was safe. No one stopped by or called to check on us until Sunday morning to plow us out. The outhouse was completely full by Saturday night and no one changed it out all weekend. Bring paper towels with you to cover the mound. Rented a generator but only had gas enough for 8 hours. Couldn't get back in to get more gas. Lucky to have brought enough water and snacks, including lots of beef jerky, to last us the weekend. Brought a jackery which came in handy to charge phones 2nd night. Word of advice that they didn't tell us, if renting a generator, bring a gas can and extension cord. Bring a power strip and extra power banks. If you have your own poop bucket, consider bringing it with plenty of bags and TP. Plan to be stranded for a few days, just in case of blizzard conditions. Shack we were in was very drafty with the high winds and there was a 2 inch gap above the door. The windows were also very drafty. We had two large bath towels with us and hung one over the window which helped a lot and stuffed the other in the gap above the door that helped. Then the propane fumes built up since there was no air vent. There was a small propane cooktop as seen in the video. The propane lights added warmth. Caught and kept 7 walleyes 15-16.5", one really small walleye was thrown back, and kept one nice size perch during the 2 days and 2 nights lines were down. Walleye dinner was great however lots of little bones. Great homemade tar tar sauce. Salad was just romaine, 4 croutons, tiny bit of cheese. Wild rice soup was awesome! Service was good. read more

Nice bar/restaurant in this small town near the Big Bog Recreational Area. Drinks are priced low, they have Touch Tunes and good food. I took pictures of the menu for your viewing pleasure. We had a chicken sandwich with Minnesota Wild Rice Soup, they split for 2 and a California Burger and fries. We also had a side of onion rings which were also good. The staff is friendly and attentive. The rum and cokes were $4 and the Captain Cokes were $4.50. You can't beat those drink prices. I am sure we will be back since we will be camping for 6 days. read more

Love coming here! Staff is awesome and friendly, and they DON'T make weak drinks! Food is good, just a simple menu, but it works. You must try the wild rice soup, don't argue with me. The walleye is amazing, and comes straight from Red Lake, you can't get any better than that! Don't miss the prime rib special on Saturdays. It's so tender and flavorful, and it comes with a homemade twice baked potato. It's not hard to get a table in here with quick service, unless it's during ice fishing season. It can get crazy in there in the winter. As far as accommodations go, their lakeside cabins are clean and beautiful. Close to shore, with a fire pit and picnic table. Bait shop is newly remodeled and bigger. They have a great selection in there. Fish cleaning room, lake access passes, boat and pontoon rentals, fish house rentals, cabin and ridgehome rentals, full bar and kitchen, etc. If you are thinking of a stay up north, West Wind is your place! read more

The 7 of us Had lunch today before heading it to fish. Good menu selection and not a long wait for our food considering it was 2:00, and the place was decently full being the first week since opener. Good bartenders who had a good sense of humor and put up with us well. Bar was open later with music and darts although he kitchen closed at 10, they still had pizzas afterwards. read more

That being said West Wind is a full service bar and eatery. Live bait and boat launch. Cabins and RV lots. Busy place last night with Valentine's Day and all. We were told you cold bring your own fish and they would cook it, however the hostess was really cranky and said if you don't have a reservation its at least an hour and if you want your own fish cooked, even longer. No sugar coating or pleasantries, just a take it or leave approach. Nice place but not the best attitude. read more

We were looking for a place for a quick bite after a day ice fishing on Red lake. It was tough to find anything nearby and open on a Monday night. We sat ourselves and were waited on fairly quickly. The place had a rustic dive, family-run feel. The waiter informed us that they were missing many items on the menu due to a busy fishing weekend, so we decided on the special- a French dip with a baked potato. We enjoyed it. Prices were reasonable. We ordered a dinner salad that was forgotten, but was brought when we asked. read more
