The gym is spacious with plenty of room in between machines and benches, and they also have a functional fitness room with Olympic platforms. My first visit was at 9 PM, and my second visit was at 5:30 AM the next day, so I'm not sure if they are overly busy during prime time, but when I went to the gym it was fairly empty. The machines were good, they have plenty of free weights, and they also have a cardio theater which I did not partake in, but it looked pretty cool. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and they provide a towel service. The bathrooms seemed pretty clean for the gym, but I did not use the shower so I can't come in on that.

I particularly love her class sequencing which is always intelligent and builds well. Classes are moderately paced but provide challenges for all levels. What really sets Sara's classes apart however is her ability to bring to life the mental and philosophical side of yoga. I always leave her classes feeling centered, inspired, and like I got everything I wanted out of them.

Each of the Shala's teachers have their own style, training background, and focus, but all of them are thorough, patient, encouraging, and extremely skilled. One could be forgiven for feeling intimidated at first, because all the teachers (and many students) radiate the strength and beauty that come from dedicated practice. But the Shala has a casual and welcoming vibe, and the teachers will work with you at your level, whether it's your first class, or you're a serious yogi. I love that there is some much range in both style and intensity among the classes. Erika, who is a poet, starts and ends her classes with a contemplative poem. Katie's classes build strength and stamina, but I never notice how hard I am working because Katie infuses her teaching with realness and a relaxed sense of humor. My only regret is that I'm not able to attend more frequently- this place is a gift to the community. Even if you're just visiting for a few days, attend a class at the Shala- it will balance out whatever burly outdoor adventure you've been enjoying, and provide you with some first-class instruction.
