I asked for a copy of my prescription and he refused. I had a stroke and am in Georgia in a…read morenursing home, confined to a bed. My glasses have lost an earpiece and I would like new ones. There's an online place I can order from, but, of course, they need the prescription. He won't send it to me. So I am stuck with broken glasses and no way to get them replaced or repaired.

So much wrong here, I don't know where to start. I now have a brand new Rx for contacts that I will never be able to wear. After my contacts fitting, I asked for a simple, inexpensive pair of glasses, as I do wear the contacts 99% of the time. They ended up costing me $410.00. My fault to a certain extent for not being exactly sure of how much was being billed to my insurance, and well, all of the in-office "explaining" was written in a tiny notebook and did I mention the contacts I was wearing at the time were pretty much useless to read it? Last but certainly not least, at the start of my first visit I stood at their front desk and BEGGED for them to give me an e-mail address and to please contact me via e-mail at all times, explaining to them that a few things in my life made it very difficult to communicate by phone. Nope. Couldn't do that, they use phone and mail. I should have ran right there. Very next day they called and left a voicemail which I had explained wasn't practical. My insurance people pay by electronic means, and I literally had to dig up an e-mail address for the doctor and send them a request that they process my payments. There isn't much positive to say here. I have a contacts RX that is useless and a $410 pair of glasses that will gather dust. This practice needs to seriously consider stepping into the "20th" century, communication-wise. A little dose of "the customer is always right" wouldn't hurt either.

Thank you to Dr. Smay, Renae, and the rest of the team at MyEyeDr in New Kensington. I feel…read moreconfident knowing that I will get the best care and compassion while I am there. It's a great hometown experience, and I get a great price on my eyewear.

I am so regretful that I have to leave this review. I have used this location for my vision care…read more for over 20 years. It was a privately held company with a few locations in the Pittsburgh metro area that was recently brought under the MyEyeDoctor vision care consortium. Though they were not perfect and I did experience issues with service, none come close to this! The majority of their failures centered around selling me more options than I needed or failing to fill orders in a timely fashion or failure to fax test results to my physician. But in the last 3 years, I have experienced lackluster customer service with little appreciation of my patronage. It is odd to feel like you are little more than a name on a schedule for a town the size of New Kensington and this small business. I guess it's a sign of the times. But I digress. What I have experienced in 2 visits this fall goes beyond lackluster and careless customer service. This is a story of blatant disregard for their responsibility to act in a civil, respectful, and honest fashion. 1: Inadaquate staffing About 4 weeks ago I scheduled my annual eye exam. They have my records and know that for the last 6 years I have needed a special vision test required by a med. I arrived for my exam and learned that the person who performs these tests was not in the office. They could do my standard exam but I would need to return a second time for the special exam. They couldn't schedule until the October schedule was available but would call me when it was released. Minor, but required a second trip. 2: Lack of follow up After 2 weeks and now October with no call from MyEyeDoctor to schedule the special testing, I called the office to see if the October schedule had been published. Indeed it was, yet no one called me to schedule the testing. I had to initiate the call. Point 3: Unapologetic, irresponsible, destruction of customer property On my first visit I brought with me 4 pair of glasses to be adjusted 3 pair of prescription frames and 1 pair of Gucci sunglasses that were 10 years old but in pristine condition. (They were worn infrequently, because the lenses were too dark for most Pittsburgh days. In 10 years probably worn less than 60 times. Always kept them in their case & my car's console. ) Trish took the 3 pair of prescription eye glasses from me and said she could adjust them. I then proceeded to hand her the sunglasses to see if she could adjust them. (purchased here) In the hand off, Trish fumbled them and accidentally SMASHED them onto the desk breaking off & cracking the left temple. I was stunned but felt for her thinking she felt responsible and remorse. She didn't know what to say or do initially... except try to fix them in the back unable to heat it up enough to repair it without breaking it further. After failing to fix them, she handed them back to me with a mere, "I am sorry I couldn't fix them." No offer to replace them... Then she asked if she could keep them and try to fix them better. I said of course Following my special vision tests, I stopped by the desk to retrieve my "repaired" glasses from Trish who stated that it was not a sturdy fix and it may or may not hold. Noting not to put them back into their case. 4: Belligerent & disregard for responsibility When I stated that this was unsatisfactory and they should replace the glasses, the woman behind the front desk started to raise her voice and say that they had repaired the glasses and that was the extent of what they could and would do. And when I said it was their responsibility to make good on this accidental damage that they caused to my property. If I had broken a pair of glasses in their store, I would be responsible to pay for the broken merchandise... she quickly retorted that their insurance would take care of the damages to inventory. Baffling that their insurance doesn't not cover accidental damage to customer property. The defining moment was when this woman exclaimed in a loud, irritated voice, "since I was raising this as an issue, I would no longer be able to bring my glasses in for adjustments!" (One of their lifetime warranty services.) then disappeared into an office behind. I remained calm and keeping my voice low, I replied that it will be my prerogative to take my business to another vision care provider. I received no apology, no admission of culpability or responsibility, only nasty treatment to a paying customer. I would not be writing this review at all, if they had accepted their mistake and responsibility to make good on breaking my valuable piece of property. I am giving 2 stars, only because I want to be fair about the 20 plus years of service I have received. It was once a top notch place with friendly, customer focused staff. Needless to say I will be finding another eye doctor.
