The implication of this is that there's nowhere to stow your suitcase. Bags clogged the aisles or blocked seats as a result. I went during an off-peak time, so it was okay. But if you go when it is busy, this may be a problem. I bought a return ticket at the stand in baggage claim, so there was a bit of a discount. Your "ticket " is not magnetic. When you get on and off, you need to locate the staff member and show them you Airtrain receipt (what I was given to go into the city) or return ticket (which was about the size of a business card). The staff member then lets you in or out. It did take about 20 minutes to downtown, as advertised. If you are going to the Gold Coast, they have an express train, but you have to change trains at Eagle Station. Stations are good at having lifts, but there are other problems. At the airport's domestic terminal, there was a gap between the platform and the train. Worse was Roma Street. It was announced there was a gap, but actually there was quite a step to tackle. One wheel on my suitcase got caught in the metal slats at the train door. Finally someone came to help me; another passenger freed my suitcase and placed it on the platform, then lent me a hand so I could make the step. Msny thanks to that wonderful fellow traveler.

But then last night I landed at the Brisbane airport and thought I was in a parallel universe. You can catch public transport to and from the airport in Brisbane and it takes you to Gold Coast? Well hold your horse and carriage there sir, I'm going to save me some dosh. The train runs every 15 minutes or so and there are both express lines and lines which take every stop. It is clean-ish and has the usual public transport random suspects, but most people are travellers so you don't feel like you stick out like a sore thumb. Ticket staff are helpful at the counter and for $16.50 one way (compared to $50 or so) plus free wifi on the train this is an easy way to get around.

Then again, the only other state that can be reached by rail happens to be New South Wales, which is to the south. You could get to South Australia, but there isn't a railway that is able to take you there. Anyway, the station itself is actually quite nice, though I did find the elevators to be pretty slow. Also, trains don't come as often as I'd like them to.

Weirdly I used to forget this and get off at Central, however I've finally learned and now use this as an access point to one of my favourite areas of the inner city. I also like how it's one of the only original buildings in the area. Thankfully the renovation has been pretty thoughtful so most of the old school ambiance is still evident.

Oxley Train station has received a facelift within the last few years, which is perfect for this…read moreold suburb. It has a newly designed façade that brings this classic train station into modern times. As part of the station, there is a handy bus stop right in front with buses coming through frequently. There is also a pick up and drop off lane. However, if you are not using the bus or being dropped off, there is parking space to leave your car. Parking is quite limited here, so you'd need to try and come earlier. A great station with a refreshed new look, very fitting for this leafy suburb.

However, as a railway station it is pretty large, and in fact reminds me of some of the European stations that I have visited. Central Train Station is a clear indicator of this. It's a bit embarrassing compared to the likes of Flinders Street Station in Melbourne or Grand Central in Sydney, but it's important to bare in mind that little old Brisbane is just that in terms of population...little. My qualm is that the trains can often be so unreliable and so expensive that people just don't see the point of traveling that way. Central also has a strange layout in the sense that sometimes it's OK to use the subway and sometimes it's not, so finding an entry to the station would be tricky for people who don't know the city very well. Central Train Station definitely succeeds in its purpose...but it doesn't exceed. With a bit of a makeover and a plan for it to be a little more user and tourist friendly, it could be able to make people's commute that touch easier.

There are 4 steps into the coach instead of 3 and the coach kneels closer to the ground to make it easier to hop on and off. Panoramic windows and comfortable seats make for a comfortable journey. In my dealings with the company I have the most respectful and quick response from them. The cost to hire the coach is most reasonable, and NO there is no loss of service or quality to get this reasonable price. We have travelled SE Qld and N NSW and never once could I fault the safety or courtesy shown to us. The assistance was ALWAYS there in helping us enjoy our trip. LEIGH will always be our driver whenever he is available as he just fits in with your group.
