I would have preferred a ground room floor but ended up on the second floor. It wasn't a major issue, but a ground-floor room would have been my preference. My only real suggestion would be to offer breakfast on-site. Having breakfast available before heading out for a day of riding would have been a nice convenience. A few years ago we were surprised to hear they now charge for dogs from an original no charge policy but we fully understand and they have kept it reasonable at $25. night. Jason and Shannon are so kind and they truly thought of everything to make our stay special. Jason is a true barista, which is wonderful because we really, really love coffee. Shannon has really brought the history of the house to life and I loved learning about the family who first built it and lived there. The house is beautiful, the rooms are lovely, the food is yummy, the hosts are delightful. What more could you ask for? I will be telling everyone about this place. Less than a week prior, we got an email from Josh saying his reservation company double booked us and he has to cancel our reservation. As out-of-state parents, we had already invested a lot of money for the weekend. He offered some gift cards as compensation. There are no other hotels available anywhere within an hour. We had to cancel everything and take a significant financial hit. A look at the VA Tech Parents page on another social media site shows that we weren't the only family he did this to. In fact, we saw screen shots with the same email and excuses. We saw some terrible responses from Josh to very distraught parents. It's unfortunate. If you have rooms booked there in the future, especially for an important event, I highly recommend you look elsewhere. Definitely do not send cash or use Venmo to pay in advance.
