I am a man of simple tastes, and this is what this place serves up. It is nice and simple and its tasty enough at a decent enough price. I have went here on a number of occassions with my friends Conor and Bernie and we have never failed to have a good time. The last time we went we all went for bugers and chips, as well as getting a bucket of corona between us allow us to get nice and socially lubricated/a bit hammered. The service was excellent all night, the girls who served us didn't even seem to mind that we tried to flirt with them everytime they brought us something. It can't of been much fun for them to be honest, the more drunk we got the more flirty we got which I can only imagine was a complete mess. They didn't even shout at us when Conor spilt a beer. Top service and a fun place to grab a bite to eat. Other reviewers have complained about the prices but I think they're fine. Well worth checking out if you want some uncomplicated food.

Ah, Springsteen's. I was on my precious one-hour break from work of an evening, on my travels. I was going to one of my usual haunts on Botanic Avenue but was enticed by an advertising sign outside said restaurant, and thought I'd give it a bash. I can't fault the service in any way, the folks that took care of me were great. But... I'm pretty confident that I was fleeced. I paid far too much for a chicken breast which was meant to have a chorizo cream sauce (I LOVE chorizo). You know that horrible, processed, sliced and packaged stuff you get in Tescos? The best thing about this place is the painting of Superman on the wall. Won't be back.

I'm sorry to those Springsteens fanatics (I do actually know two) who would rather receive a voucher for here instead of an xbox or a laptop or George Clooney but I just don't get it. The food is waaayyyy over-priced and it's just fine. My girlfriend and I were full after it but we're also full after 10 pints and I know which one I would rather have. The ribs in fairness to them were grand and they have tried particularly hard to get that '60s-Grease-type vibe going on, but it just seems like a knock-off version of a Hard Rock Cafe. It's fine if you love it but really? I always imagined an American diner to be better. Perhaps movies have lied to us.

Barking Dog Restaurant - beef shin burger is definitely not your average burger

I've had my fair share of memorable burgers from coast to coast in America, but just glancing at a picture of the beef shin burger transports me back across the pond to the Barking Dog. I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. A+ and a definite must when visiting Belfast.

I hate it when restaurants do this, I can understand it for Christmas party bookings, but dislike when deposits are requested throughout the year. It would prevent me from returning with a large party in future. It's just a hassle trying to collect money from people you won't necessarily be seeing before an evening out. Alternatively one person has to cover the deposit before the meal, which is unfair and leaves them out of pocket until the night out. Other than this we had a good overall experience. Waiting staff were excellent and the menu is huge with a vast selection of dishes, even plenty of veggie options - burgers, pizzas, pastas etc. I ordered vegetarian fajitas which were served with a side of fries, 3 fajita pancakes, a large sizzling plate of mixed veg (mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomatoes) plus guacamole, sour cream and salsa. The guacamole and salsa weren't fresh, instead they seemed quite processed. But it was good food - not great - but filling, tasty and reasonable for the price. Our whole party enjoyed their meals. We also ordered dessert and the Banoffee Pie was absolutely gorgeous- though I did have dessert envy when I saw the Nutella Dough Balls some of the others ordered! Ginger, gin, beer and plenty of wine flowed. In total two courses, drinks and tips cost approximately £35 per person. A good night was had by all. This is a nice, casual, relaxed restaurant and I would return - but not with a large party as I dislike the insistence on a deposit and enforced service charge. Whilst I recognise the reasoning for these charges and appreciate they are becoming common in a lot of restaurants, I will primarily take my custom to establishments who don't insist on a deposit. A good, solid 3.5 stars from me...

During the time I visited, it wasn't very packed so I was seated swiftly. The kind staff accommodated my request to get a corner table. The vibe can be describe is a classic. I really enjoyed all the dark stained wood furniture - gave it such an "old Irish saloon" vibe...maybe because it is haha. I did not have much time to spend in Belfast, so I tried to taste as many traditional dishes as possible with being just one person. With that being said, I ordered a few of their notable dishes - Crown Bar Irish Stew, Steak & Ale Pie, and to finish it off, the Sticky Toffee Pudding served with both the custard and ice cream (really thankful the server offered to give me two toppings, and they were both delicious). All the dishes were great, and are definitely hearty. The stew as well as the pie filling had a rich roux - nice, thick and flavorful. I will say, the pie pastry was not as flaky as I would have liked it; kind of too thick. Overall, it was a great taste of Ireland

We hopped on Yelp and saw that French Village was just down the street, so we just walked on over. For a Saturday morning it was quite busy, but we were lucky to get a table for 4 people right away. They have a pretty standard breakfast menu with your typical french toast, pancakes, bagel, hash, scrambled eggs, etc. Between the four of us, we pretty much ordered the whole menu, which was great because that means I got to try a bit of everything. For myself I ordered the bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon. It was good, but I don't think it was exactly what I was feeling that morning. I really enjoyed bites of their raspberry & white chocolate pancakes and frech toast though. I'd definitely recommend that if you've got a sweet tooth. On top of that, we got an assortment of different coffees and smoothies at our table. I went for a soy milk latte for myself and a strawberry banana smoothie. Both hit the spot perfectly. Service was a little spotty. Our waters were never really refilled (and on a hungover morning, endless water is a necessity), and our server looked a bit angry to be there. The manager came around to see how everything was doing though, which was great! They have a bakery on the other side of the restaurant (where you go to pay), and have an assortment of macarons, muffins, and other baked goods. Before we left, we got a small box of macarons to share and they were lovely! I can't remember all the flavours we got, but everything I tried was delicious. If you're in the University area, definitely a good spot to check out for a nice breakfast.
