I recommend the char kuey teow as it has a good price to it, and has a good handful of noodles and chicken (I normally order chicken for this dish) each time you order and the chicken laksa for spicy beginners, as it isn't hot to taste the soup and the noodle is yummy with bits of chicken :9 The atmosphere of the foodcourt could be better, especially the bathroom but otherwise the bathroom situation there are many seats to choose from. I like the seats outside when it is sunny, where you can overview the stretch of the Ponsonby street the foodcourt is at be separated from other costumers, like a getaway. But the inside is also quite chill as you have seat and wait for your meal.

First up, I love the roti here. Sometimes roti can be just as bready and thick and crap as a bad naan, but the roti at Kampung is much more pastry-like - brittle and crumbly and yum yum yum. The first time I ever tried a laksa was from Kampung as well, and I can't believe I'm about to rave about food court laksa but I've had laksa since then and nothing has really measured up. Pretty good for a food court! While I can't say this is always my first choice when hitting Ponsonby Food Court up, it is a favourite.

Mama Rich - Using a couple of props to show a sense of scale. The lunchtime portion of laksa here is huge, super tasty and spicy!

I popped in to Mama Rich again for an authentic laksa because last week I ordered a laksa in Singapore and got a Tom Yum Soup. I felt robbed! Feeling so much better having sipped and slurped my way through this bowl of laksa goodness. This cafe is a favourite for many familiar with Malay cuisine, even Malaysians. Evident by their attendance and quaffing of the hearty noodle soups. Their baked goods here are seriously good too. Try their afghans...they actually taste like....well, afghans. Of all the laksas I've had in Auckland, this ranks in top three for taste but number one for sheer volume and there's plenty of chicken in it too. For a lunchtime special, two would feel sated sharing a bowl of laksa.

Well however the businesses are joined or not , Mama Rich had the exact same menu as Selera . I had the char kieow ( sorry spelling) and it was the same as Selera , but without the spice and charred flavour that I love so much at Selera . All the dishes looked good and I wish I was more adventurous to try something else . That's not too say I didn't like it ,but personally I feel Selera is better . Mama Rich was clean and quiet for families and a cafe feel , no free tea here . (And when I asked if there was tea like at Selera the server looked at me like I was a crazy person). I like the noise at Selera and the jostling for tables , it feels more authentic. I love Malaysian food and I'll be sure to give Mama Rich another try , but I'm sure I'll be enticed back to Selera before long .

IF you can get over the manic craziness, awkward dining area (there are two), cramp kitchen space and noise (baring in mind it's also next to a busy main road) then you are good to go though it is all part of the experience! More importantly the food speaks for itself. I have pretty much had everything on their menu and whether you want to share meals, have your own or get a quick lunch fix, you won't be disappointed. This place is an institution. Faves: - Mee Goreng ($15 for a large) - Beef Rendang - Chicken Curry (Bare in mind Malay curries are slightly thicker) - Mummy Chicken.. - Rotis With a bit of reno's this place would really take off but knowing how restricted they are with their lease they really need their own space. Service is always quick and when phoning in they are also very good - staff though frantic are friendly and cheeky... and always on the move so don't go here if you're in a rush or on a date?!?!

Your so close to your neighbours table you can ask what they're having , I got FOMO'd over garlic beans . The super speediness of the food , I felt like we ordered and then literally seconds later it appeared . The Bad : the two separate dining spaces , like what the ! For the love of god cut a door in the wall for everyone's sanity . The stupid sliding door , Come on KK you must be making some cash to sort this . The many beers on the menu but only Amstel light and Macs avaliable ? And your right across the road from a liquor store ! Get yourselves over there and get a dozen of what's missing . The Ugly : the maitre D fella wearing food prep gloves ? Not that I saw him change them , but do you really need them for everything . And if your touching money taken them off - hence the name FOOD prep gloves . The last but not least : this is a popular place , and it's great for a rowdy dinner NOT a romantic date . I really liked it and would go back just to see if they cut a hole in the wall for a door to the next door area .
