The Hindu-Jain Temple or HJT is just down right awesome! From the priests to the downstairs hall…read moreor the peacefully feeling you get when you enter, this is one of the best places around! The HJT is located in Monroville, not far from 395, so access to east and west and Pittsburgh are very easy. The positives (man where do I start): The HJT is usually kept, clean, quiet and very welcoming. They have a great volunteer organization which helps run everything from the day activities, Sunday school and special holidays like Diwali. My favorite thing about the HJT are the deities inside the temple(this is a Vishnu centric) temple but they also have two Jain deities. That in a nut shell speaks volumes. The area and this temple can have two different religions in the same Temple and worship as one. So this is def. my go to place when I travel back to Pittsburgh, its quiet, clean, and you truly feel at peace when you walk in. I would highly recommend anyone checking it out. Some notes: They do not serve food normally, unless there is an event or Sunday school going on. The Temple is up the hill with plenty of parking in the back, if the front gets full. Also they have a side entrance for cold/icy months.

My family first became acquainted with Mother of Sorrows when my twins were three and participated in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a montessori based faith formation program. We were parishioners at another church, but love the program so registered there. MOS is a very welcoming church. I will never forget that, prior to us ultimately joining, we attended Mass and my three year olds were typical three year olds... Loud, moving around a lot, being a tad disruptive. I was mortified and thought "OK, we can never come back to Mass here again" Boy was I wrong. After Mass, three different people approached us with kindness and said things like "thank you for bringing them to Mass, I know it is hard, but this season will pass" Fast forward to now, many years later and both my kids are altar servers at MOS! The warm welcome and encouragement made us realize that this was our home. MOS has a lot to offer. Many Mass times (including a Sunday evening Mass which is perfect when your family is as busy as ours), lots of opportunities to get involved and programming for all ages. They also have a pre-k through 8th grade associated with them. The campus is spread out over a large hill with a lower, upper and side parking lot. Except for the busiest of events, it is fairly easy to get a parking spot. The campus is beautiful and the recently renovated the Church interior to bring the Tabernacle back into the main church. Overall, a welcoming, vibrant community that I love being a part of!

I am not catholic but I love fish so every season I make trips to different places to sample their goods. They have a wide variety of seafood offerings and side dishes. Their prices are about on point with everyone else, as is the wait time for ordering. First day open means 25 minute wait. My sandwich was a decent portion and was served with a fresh soft roll. It tasted ok, nothing to get too excited over. A little bland, though to look at it you would think they seasoned it nicely. It lacked salt. Maybe one of the cooks gave that up for lent??? Perhaps the fried fish was better, probably because it's fried right?! But I'm in the trying not to be such a fatso stage, so baked is where it will stay for me. Probably will try them again before the end of the season, especially since they are so close.
