There's a memorial statue of Jesus Christ outside of St. Anthony's that I pass by almost every day. And nearly every time I see it, it's covered in dirt and left unclean, as if it were just another object instead of a symbol of our Savior. It's heartbreaking to witness, especially from a Catholic school that is supposed to be built on honoring Christ in every way. This isn't just about a statue, it's about reverence. That memorial is meant to reflect the love, sacrifice, and presence of Jesus, yet it's consistently neglected. For a school that carries His name, this lack of care sends a message that directly contradicts the values it claims to teach. When something so symbolic is left in that state, and when attempts to bring attention to it are met with cold and dismissive attitudes, it raises a serious concern: Are we really honoring Him the way we should? A Catholic school should be a living reflection of Christ, in its words, its actions, and even in the way it tends to something as sacred as His image. I graduated here in the year 2000 (aaaaahhh am I that old?!) and I really valued my education here. I know a lot has changed since I graduated, and they are constantly improving the curriculum (and now the campus). At the time that I went here, this school was on the verge of becoming overcrowded. The hallways were completely full of students during the change of classes, so much so that no one could wear backpacks, instead, students carried their books. The 5 minutes that we had between classes was barely enough time to go to one's locker, get the books for the next class, and walk to class. I made friends with people here that I am STILL close with, and we still talk about all the fun times that we had at St. A's. My only gripe was the lack of guidance counselors (and college counselors). There was 5 counselors there for over 2000 students when I went there, and the situation hasn't improved a whole lot. There was no way that they could take care of that many students and all of their needs. My college counselor suggested that I shouldn't apply to the school I eventually attended (Lehigh University) because I wasn't likely to get in. She was not well versed in the requirements for very many schools, as it was common for them to encourage people to apply to "feeder" schools that St. A's had a good relationship with. It was a good thing that I didn't heed her advice. -1 star for that. read more

This is a very good Catholic high school located in the heart of Long Island. If there are actually parents reading this review, I highly recommend sending your child to St. A's. I had a very positive experience there that I still reflect on to this day. That being said, I cannot commend the Brothers enough for the hard work that they put in to this institution. They sincerely care about each and every student, which cannot be said for other private schools of this size. I took some classes here that were more challenging than some of the courses I enrolled in during college. It is pretty sad, but it goes to show you how high the quality of education is at St. Anthony's. I also played on 2 sports teams while I was at St. A's and both were extremely competitive. St. Anthony's is ranked among the best high school sports programs in the country according to Sports Illustrated and it shows. The coaches really care, and in turn, it is a great experience for the kids. When I was a student, more of the kids stayed after school to participate in extra curricular activities than those who rode the bus home - that is saying something. As Kathleen mentioned, the only downfall is the guidance dept. and their role in college applications. The school definitely has relationships with other Catholic Universities/Colleges and tries to shuffle the students in the direction of those institutions. However, if you are proactive about your college search, you can pretty much bypass the guidance people and go it alone, which I definitely recommend. Overall St. A's is a great school and I will never forget my time spent there. I keep in touch with more people from St. Anthony's than I do from college, it is a great place. read more

Attending St. Anthony's was the best decision I ever made. The teaching staff, school spirit, diversity of extra-curricular activities, and amazing opportunities this school has are unparalleled. My friends from other schools that used to come to football games with me described the atmosphere as "something from a Hollywood movie." The Brothers put so much work into helping cultivate the Franciscan spirit, and this is made evident by the daily masses, plentiful service opportunities, and theology classes taken by students of every grade. I truly cannot express how much I appreciate every aspect of St. Anthony's. I am currently a freshman in college and I found myself completely prepared to handle the workload of my classes due to the extensive preparation implemented by my teachers throughout high school.
