With that said, the paster is just okay, she talks is a pretty monotone voice and the lesson that I went to was just okay. They were also welcoming new members to the group and she made us form a circle while holding hands, I don't like physical touch, so it made me a bit uncomfortable. Not my cup of tea, but I'm sure it's great for other people. Also, as a note, they don't require masks anymore, so don't listen to "mask nazi" guy.

It isn't about agreeing with God its just about agreeing with them as people. The head pastor Jeff has a huge God complex and misquotes the Bible way more then a pastor should. He can only do a verse word for word if it's right in front of him, and I'm the same on that sometimes (still not as bad as he is but still) but I expect a leader of a congregation to have a little bit more knowledge on the Bible. They completely rejected me when I came out as bisexual which is very much against the Bible which says judge not others lest he be judged. We are called here to love and they showed me nothing but hate. Very sad.

I wanted to find a church, and a preacher that would preach what the Word of God said, and not just what I wanted to hear. I wanted to know how to be saved according to the Bible, and put my own ideas a side. (Because my ideas were what got me on the wrong road in the first place!) My husband & I started having a Bible study with another couple, and the word of God came alive to me! For the first time ever, I saw how to be saved! It hasn't always been easy, but that is when God's unfailing faithfulness steps on the scene to help! From the day I decided to make a commitment to Jesus, to this very day, God has blessed me! Services are friendly and informal. Lots of small groups for people to join and opportunities to serve Jesus and the community. Oh, and about that "women in ministry" thing: From it's founding in Pilot Point Texas in 1908, through the founding of McMinnville Church of the Nazarene by a woman pastor in 1911, the Church of the Nazarene has always honored and will continue to honor the pastoral gifts of women and the spirit of Anna (Luke 2:36), Junia (Romans 16:7), Priscilla (Acts 18) and recognize Paul's admonition against women pastors as applying to a particular troublesome church. We are all enriched when each faithful member of our community uses their gifts in service to the Lord and as Galatians 3:28 says, "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." We'd invite people looking for that kind of unity in Jesus to join us at Church on the Hill.

God has ordained that only men are to serve in positions of spiritual teaching authority in the church. This does not imply men are better teachers or that women are inferior or less intelligent. It is simply the way God designed the church to function. Men are to set the example in spiritual leadership--in their lives and through their words. We women are also to set an example in our lives, but in a different way (1 Peter 3:1-6). Women are encouraged to teach other women (Titus 2:3-5). The Bible also does not restrict women from teaching children. The only activity women are restricted from is teaching or having spiritual authority over men. This bars women from serving as pastors over men. This does not make us women less important, by any means; rather, it gives us a ministry focus more in agreement with God's design. We women have a high calling of raising a family, getting our home in order, and submitting and taking care of the needs of our Husbands. Our husbands are the head and soul of the family. We women are the heart, and together are one body as our lord designed for the family. It would be out of God's will for any woman to be a pastor. Paul says "a pastor, elder" must be the husband of one wife, not a wife of one husband. God is the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow, so if Paul were going to church today, he would be saying the same thing. Men's ways change due to sin, but God doesn't.

Churches are so subjective…read more.. This one is gorgeous- a real gothic feel from the steeple and stained glass windows to the altar. The pews are high back and uncomfortable. The church is over 100 years old so I guess they didn't care about comfort when they made it :) Fr Phil is wonderful and has a good sermon now and then, even if it is read verbatim from the pulpit- no ad libbing here. Sometimes, a seminarian will preach, which can be good or bad- sometimes they have very thick accents so it's hard to understand. The music is so old school- I mean like a school from 100 years ago- and the choir can be off key. Everything is sung, so it seems, so this can be a real drag if you want something livelier in your mass. In the end, it was the music that did me in. Overall- the good and bad equal each other out- 3 stars.

He is friendly and personable but also a little bit "type A." Mass goes an hour and not a minute longer except for the big holidays. He runs a tight ship and there is nothing gamey or cutesy about mass here. It is plainly and simply mass. It leaves you feeling spiritually "full," but without being overly emotional or dramatic. There are some talented musicians, but how good the music is depends on who the current music minister is. Things are good right now. The pews are uncomfortable, but the church itself is one of the most beautiful in Oregon.
