What they have created is a bistro, function room and hair salon which are open to the public. This enables those visiting elderly residents to have somewhere pleasant to go. Also, being open to the general public makes the residents feel part of the community rather than being secluded from it. So, what is the food like? Fairly decent square meals at a reasonable price. It doesn't set any standards but they do what they do well enough. Like most places nowadays, the majority of the menu is made possible by use of the freezer, the microwave and the deep fat fryer. They do do a cooked breakfast before 11am and Sunday lunch is only served until 2pm. I had the meat lasagna which is served with side salad and garlic bread. I also had a side order of chips. My friend had scampi chips and peas. We both had a glass of wine and the total bill only came to £16. The portion size was generous enough and the lasagna was particularly tasty. Customer service is not exactly slick, but friendly and helpful. They have decent wifi (ask for current password) and all major cards are accepted. It 's easy to get to right in the centre of…read moretown and as long as it's not an emergency means you don't have to go all the way to Whiston. I have dropped in with a minor injury and I have had appointments for blood test and stitches out. Every time I have received great service, the staff have been lovely and helpful and the wait no to bad. The car parking is across the road but you have to pay and display which is annoying when you don't know how long you're going to be.

One of the largest hospitals in the area, but may feel under-appreciated or underused with the Manchester Royal Infirmary only a short drive away, which is the largest hospital in the country by the number of beds. The hospital was redeveloped in the early 2010s which was much needed, and the refreshed look still feels modern to this day, it is fairly easy to get around the hospital and find where you need to go, the environment is clean, and the staff are friendly, with overly good standards. I did find a huge contrast between certain areas and wings of the hospital, even down to the modern features and comfort of the chairs, but it is the NHS... you can't expect too much. It's surprisingly easy to get through to someone at the hospital's switchboard, and I was passed to my consultant's secretary and appointment line in a matter of minutes, which is how it should be, while other hospitals can be much more inconsistent. Mobile Signal in the hospital is weak, likely down to equipment interfering with the connection. 4*

They were so friendly and made the whole operation almost enjoyable! The nurse, anaesthetist and surgeon all saw me within the first hour of arriving and the anaesthetist was incredibly thorough; she talked through my pre-existing conditions and thoroughly checked me over. The technician and post-op nurses were also so friendly and made me feel at ease! Very grateful.
