Well, I had seen this place around, so I thought that it might be cool to visit it. Yeah, it turned out to be pretty good, certainly much better than a lot of the other fast food places I'd visited, but then again it does happen to be an independent burger joint. Yeah, I liked it.

A tasty and solid burger - and for a decent price too! 127 Days may not be in the nicest part of…read moretown, but the good stuff normally isn't! The cute little burger bar has a funky interior to offset the seedy surrounds and a menu with a great range of choices for lunch and dinner (if you dare to come after dark..!) Today I ordered the Cheese Banga and a side of #tags (a variation on chips, deep fried pieces of potato in the shape of a # symbol). I was impressed by the quick and friendly service and when my burger hit the table I was impressed by its size - at only $8, (plus $4 for the #tags) it certainly was worth the price! The enormous pattie went right to the edges of the well sized bun and the first bite of the burger was delicious - cheesy, saucey and yummy! I did notice that the pattie itself was a bit bland however it was redeemed with the addition of flavours from the sauces. The accompanying #tags were a nice difference to chips and I loved how crispy they were however they were pretty greasy and could have done with some kind of interesting seasoning... I think I'll certainly be back - and hopefully they start to get a bit creative with the burger patties to push the review up to a five star!

Eagles Club & Bar Bistro…read more Eagles Bistro is one of those friendly contemporary pub and restaurants catering for the elderly, or the hungry like I was. The service was instant and affable, whilst ordering at the bar, one of the staff overheard my drink order and immediately snapped open a ice cold cider and handed it to me. I cheerfully sat down and waited minutes for food to come careening out the kitchen door onto my table. I gambled on this simple pub food and ordered a half-dozen oysters. Surprisingly they were vibrant and fresh, with a healthy douse Worcestershire sauce. Next came the Chicken Burger, due to my 'Burger Fiend' status. The chips were well seasoned with chicken salt which I pondered on for a while with friends as to why they had sprinkled chicken flavoured salt on, because chicken was already the main feature of the dish. However the burger was delectable and full of the usual suspects all lathered with a spicy barbeque sauce. Not bad for $16. Unfortunately the wonderful experience was dampened by a sighting of a giant pepper shaker, that wasn't even offered to me by the waiting staff. A shameful display, I'll live on...

We could all do with a little health food now and then…read more Hot on the heels of trends sweeping Sydney and Melbourne comes Nettle Raw - Adelaide's first raw, vegan cafe. With even more firsts - a cactus smoothie on the menu, and closest to my heart - Adelaide's first veggie Reuben sandwich! Tucked in the leafy streets of West Croydon, the vintage decorated Nettle Raw Cafe opened to the sound of vintage vinyl. Raw is more than just hommus and veggie sticks. Food can be heated up to 40 degrees, and even breads and crisps can be recreated using dehydrators. When we popped in for a Sunday lunch, the place was buzzing and full, with newcomers arriving regularly to take part. Along with Adelaide's only cactus smoothie are a variety of fresh juices, healthful shots and frothy Matcha (green tea) lattes. There are also no less than four different kinds of milk to choose from for your coffee. Coconut, soy, almond and an ethical cows milk - the only animal product at the cafe. Locally roasted Red Berry Espresso coffee is on offer, with a regularly changing blend. Currently it is a Honduras blend which is mild and smooth. I had to try the cactus smoothie ($9). A huge fan of using "nopales" in Mexican cuisine, this was still a first for me. You must try it! It is surprisingly creamy, with just a hint of tang from pineapple, and fruitiness from banana, apple and celery. It's on the pricey side but consider it danger money for picking & de-thorning those cactus paddles! In terms of the food menu, you could pop in for coffee & cake, brekky, brunch or lunch. It could only have been the Reuben for me. Non-veggie Mr Wino took one bite and said - YEEEUUUM! I had to agree. Rich, salty, filling, bready this sandwich is a classic for a reason. Vego's of Adelaide rejoice, you too can now experience the legend. With no less than three firsts packed into one retro cafe - Nettle Raw is a must visit.

Nestled in amongst the Western 'burbs on Rosetta St, Croydon; Nettle Raw Cafe prides itself of serving up raw and organic vegan food. My favourite hot drinks here are the Ginger latte and the Golden Mylk (made with turmeric - boasting loads of anti-inflammatory goodness). Both are deliciously calming and tasty. The green detox soup is extremely tasty for something that is incredibly green in appearance and healthy. A welcome surprise! The raw burgers are also divine, and jam packed of goodness with great texture and flavour. The Cafe also hosts monthly themed vegan dinners, raw high teas, and vegan detox cleanses. Well worth the lunch date and you will leave without the guilt!
