The clubs available are rather unlike most schools in the area which offer football/netball, Waterloo offer ballet classes for years one and two, rugby, fencing and basketball. There is excellent pastoral support, which again is well reputed and the school is very active in the community. I don't believe it's one of the "big name" schools of the area, i.e. high profile, but I'm not sure why, it sounds fantastic.

As with all schools bullying does take place here, although it is always dealt with appropriately and parents and staff have good relationships to ensure that the children at this school are happy. The school is divided into two buildings, and essentially three areas: reception children are effectively segregated from the burly year-ones and "tops". For years 3-6, children go up to "juniors". There is also a nursery available through the week. The headteacher and many of the school teachers have changed since I was there, so I can't comment on teaching standards. With regards to the school building itself, there have been some improvements with new entrance doors, an enhanced play area, and new dining facilities. The building was decrepit when I attended school here; with smashed window, exposed brick work and a dirty, positively dangerous playing field, it needed more than a lick of paint. St Edmunds is quite a large school and accepts children from outside of the area and christian denomination, besides those of St Edmund's and/or St Thomas's parish. While I myself represent the progeny of this school, there is some stigma attached to St Edmund's and St Thomas's relating to the sector of society it welcomes or rather, acquires. Many feel it is one of the least respected schools,that is less exclusive- less posh, basically. I don't know whether that's fair to say, in my opinion it is true to some extent but not necessarily a disadvantage.

Since leaving school, I've developed a massive level of respect for teachers. I think as a child you can overlook the stress that your behaviour can put on them, magnify that by 30 in each class, and you're looking at one stressed teacher. I was always personally fairly well behaved - my mum was a teacher, so I took it a little easy on them - but some of my class mates, blimey! The teaching staff were great and did fantastically well not to lose their temper with some of the antics that went on! The school itself underwent many makeovers during my time, and I still live just a stones throw away so can see changes still happening - in a positive way though. A safe, responsible environment to send your adolescents to!

I would go as far as to say that the University of Manchester careers Service is one of the best…read morethings about the University. If you want direction in your career they will provide it for you. Not only do they allow you access to hundreds of great jobs, graduate programs and internships, they'll actually meet you if you book a one to one session and sort your life out for you. Personally I'm doing a masters, but so many of my friends are now in careers, almost all of which they got onto through this wonderful service. If you're like me though, and don't need a career just yet, they still provide services for you. They have hundreds of great part time jobs advertised through the careers service, so that businesses can get students or graduates of Manchester University to fill their posts. In fact, its how I got my job for Yelp (which is amazing)!! Its also a great place to advertise jobs if you run a business because you can guarantee that all the applicants will be graduates of a top class university. A wonderful service that works to benefit all parties, I too am thankful that I have access to this joyous opportunity!

All universities should have a careers service, but a quality careers service is a little harder to…read moremeet. I don't know, judging from my time at University of Leeds, they're both pretty good. I've made use of the literature, the newspapers, the information booklets, the CV help service, the psychometric tests books, all a lot of good information. However they run a mock interview session if you get a job interview but never seem to have any sessions free. They insist that you have an interview secured before you can make an appointment but most of the time interviews are short notice and I'm always always missing out. However the advisors are pretty good on giving general advice and for giving you a confidence boost and you can really tell that they want you to genuinely get the job. There's many talks and information sessions to attend and you get the regular emails to inform you of the new things going on as a current student. There are actually forums and blogs that you can keep up to date with if you're a fan of the online. Overall having the careers service there gives me the confidence that I'll get somewhere as a University of Manchester graduate. Thank god.

Even I was a bit worried about sending my 2 children there. this year my son will be sitting his gcse and hopefully he will prove I made the right decision.
